great video! i didnt think about placing the hight of the slab on the instrument, so that i'll have only the difference. and i was just doing a survey of the slab, friday. Thanks for the tip. learned a lot from you. keep doing it!

Hi Greg. Another great demonstration of your excellent work. I just wanted to ask if you can do a video on as-built levels for slab as you have done at the end of the video. How do you make the levels positive and negative in CAD. Thankyou .

Hi Amir! Happy you like it :) I am putting the designed heights in the EDM while doing the survey. I am showing this on one of the vids (setting out series).

I think there should be on the channel already, ideally you want to check the column line at bottom and top, but you can also create a ref line at bottom of column and check the top

Hi Greg I am nearly a graduate engineer and on some of my drawings, the column concrete grade (C40/50) is larger than the slab concrete grade (C32/40). How do you deal with this joint on-site, I think you hinted at it in the video and I can see the wet concrete colour on the columns but I don't fully understand? Once you are pouring the slab are you supposed to infill around the columns with the higher grade concrete or just use the weaker concrete over the column?
@SITENG
@SITENG 11 ай бұрын
Hi 😁 don’t need to pour coulumn concrete in the slab area although if pouring the kicker that should be column concrete. More compression in the column and often stronger concrete is used 👍

Hello. Yeah for me it is better to mark columns at slab before the fixer will come. Can you make some more focus to this nails, which are you marking point at concret?? Its look like small starts;-)
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karol! I am not sure if there are nails used there. We typically use small concrete nails (hilti nails they used to call them :) . But I only use them if the weather is bad, or want my points for the line to stay long.

Great video mate. How would you give levels for a slab that falls and rises?? Perfect vid very helpful
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Khalid! Depends on the situation really. You can use interpolated ref. line and try to mark some points, or the best use a gradient laser.

@@SITENG no worries pal. Quick question what is the tolerance for setting out grid lines?. I am currently setting out grids whats the best way to mark out grid lines do you normally string line it or chall line? How far should be the intervals of where u set out since if the two points are too fsr apart there is a likely hood of the lines not being bang on
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Depends really on few things, if the surface is ok and flat you don't need to mark too often, but obviously the more marks the more accurate it will be. Not sure about the tolerance as this should be in your job specification. You have to get the best resection you can and go for 0 when marking, use target when aiming using non-prism mode. I wouldn't recommend pole with prism for this 😊

hi there- really great video. Are they marking out for the column kickers here or will the entire column be poured? Also are the column kickers usually poured after the slab?
@SITENG
@SITENG Жыл бұрын
That was marked for the entire columns. Yes they usually poured after the slab pour, sometimes there might be a kicker poured with the slab (handing shutter-timber) - eg. liner wall. Please remember that the kicker should be actually poured with the 'column concrete' which is typically of higher strength than the slab. Pouring kickers is a really good practice, but it's time consuming and in real life not often used.

Sir greg whats the meaning of 220 cm or meter?
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 ай бұрын
220mm that would be the size of a column / wall that we mark to make sure the carpenters won't make a different size ;)

Great video. Greg with the SL asbuilt on the RC slab displayed, did you set the EDM to do the +/- tolerance measurement eg.+0.002 based on the design level etc during the survey or you did that on CAD?.
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank! EDM was set to designed slab level so it's giving info like this. I did not do that survey, but I don't think there was limit tolerance set on the EDM.
@khalidhashemi4920
@khalidhashemi4920 3 жыл бұрын
You put the the design level and the edm measures it based of that if its lower it will automatically say - and if higher it will be +.
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will take the height as a reference and it will show you + or - from it :)

@@SITENG thanks Greg, u always don't disappoint. Just a quick clarification, reference the Asbuilt, I know on the controller it shows +/- "the design data" during the survey. But is there any way (software wise) after you pick the survey, it will display the +/- on CAD. Please....😃😃

Hi Greg I am working as a projet engineer in dubai for the last 15 years I have experience working from setting out to final hand over of the project. Can you please suggest me whether I can apply for project engineer or I have to go from basic site engineer. I am a graduate engineer presently in dubai.

Hi! With your experience you should apply for project, or senior engineer job. You will have some time to know how it all works here, especially once your employer know your experience is from outside the UK. You will have to do your CSCS card and possible SMSTS.
