In this video, we will show you how to set GPS control points for the Trimble SPS930. Control points are known locations on the ground that are used to reference the position of other points. They are essential for ensuring the accuracy of surveying and construction projects.
To set a GPS control point, you will need:
* A Trimble SPS930
* A GNSS antenna
* A tripod
* A level
* A measuring tape
Once you have your equipment, follow these steps:
1. Set up the tripod and level it.
2. Attach the GNSS antenna to the tripod.
3. Power on the SPS930 and select the "Set Control Point" option.
4. Enter the coordinates of the control point.
5. Press the "Set" button.
6. The SPS930 will now survey the area around the control point and calculate its position.
7. Once the calculation is complete, the SPS930 will display the coordinates of the control point.
You can now use the control point to reference the position of other points.
Here are some additional tips for setting GPS control points:
* Choose a location for the control point that is clear of obstructions and has a good view of the sky.
* Make sure the tripod is stable and level.
* Enter the coordinates of the control point carefully.
* Repeat the survey if you are not confident in the results.
Setting GPS control points is an essential part of surveying and construction projects. By following these steps, you can ensure that your projects are accurate and reliable.

Hi mate have you done a video on setting up a base station for trimble earthworks love your videos I'm an excavator operator in the uk and use trimble earthworks your videos have taught me so much thankyou

Hello, thanks for watching. I a glad to hear that these videos are helpful. I don't have 1 video that is just centered on setting the base and hooking up with a machine, but I do have a video on right now under the Siteworks playlist that is called Siteworks Measure in new base pole and move base to that Pole. It has some base set up. I also have a Video that I just noticed was accidentally removed by my team hear called Siteworks Site Calibration. In that video has me setting up a base station and setting the frequency. I will have them re-post that. I could do a video in the future that is centered on that for sure, not sure when I will get to it though. Keep up the good work on that Excavator, running excavators with GPS is where my heart lies.

After measuring those points from GPS measurements. Do you run any network adjustments to find your baseline GPS coordinate? And also do you need to record any points external which are registered points to bridge back onto your survey as a QA measure? Could you also make videos on how to coordinate machine control files from an arbitrary datum to the GPS one? Appreciate these videos! Thanks

This job site already had a site calibration performed, so all I am doing is adding in my own new control where I need them. So I don’t need to add or adjust any of the measurements. I am just doing a 15 second observation to average out any possible gps bounce. If I had time, I would run a digital level through those points to fix the vertical error. As for machine coordinates, are you talking about state plane versus job site coordinates? Thanks for watching.

@@JeffLarsen-iz8qk Thanks for the reply Jeff, yes my question is if the site is set up on an local site coordinate system are you want to run GPS machine control on it. How do you go about shifting and changing the coordinate system to State Plane, along with the Cad or DTM data in the office? Thanks

This job site is set up on a local site calibration and coordinate system. I like the local because the northings and eastings can be brought down from 7 numbers before the decimal to 4. The machines can run on either system or coordinate. The process needs to start at the beginning though. The CAD linework from the engineer already has an associated position to it but can be moved to match a state plane if needed. If you start a job site in a data collector in state plane, it will use that datum unless you do an adjustment to site points. It askes you at the first. I don't like to do any adjustments if I don't need to though. Doing a site calibration to surveyed stakes or an engineers points is usually best because they are the licensed surveyors (unless you are one) and then you just calibrate to them and everybody and everything should match. In the office you can move CAD linework to match job site points if needed. @@niksk3256

So are you setting up a brand new control? Or did you have a list? I am confused

Thanks for doing these videos. Is there a way to do static observations in siteworks to send out for processing? I'm still trying to understand GNSS surveying, I've only really used the robot on local coordinates but I'm trying to get to the next level.

Yes. There is an option in the modes. On the main screen where the guy is standing with to pole you can go in there and select static mode which will allow for any time you are shooting any points to add time to the shot. Like a site calibration you can observe for a set time. Certain receivers can do data logging also if that is what you mean for send out data. Thanks for watching

@@JeffLarsen-iz8qk ok thanks. Yes basically I'm referring sending out data to OPUS for processing, still wrapping my head around when that's necessary
