One piece of practical advise for any women watching this: a lot of the time when the women gather they tend to backbite more than the men do so what you can do, if you've already advised them and they dont stop, go to where the children are. Sometimes, depending on how the host is hosting, the children are in another room, mainly the living or separate room or bedroom, and sit with them instead. When it's time to eat , go down and get involved in productive and kind conversation. In my culture, not going to a gathering when your entire family does is very offensive so try your best to attend and accept the invite but keep a distance instead. Ps. Sometimes I say I need the restroom, so I go, which isnt a lie, but I dont return and go to the chidlrens room instead. May allah protect us from evil speech and forgive us for our transgressions.

If only life was that easy Family seem to be getting worse every time gatherings are now free mixing non mahrams interactions and gossiping and backbiting Keeping away has caused them to oppressive behaviour towards me bullied and ridiculed for speaking up

My issue really is I keep doubting myself on whether something is really considered backbiting, so I refrain from speaking up lest I be speaking without knowledge

﴿وَما خَلَقتُ الجِنَّ وَالإِنسَ إِلّا لِيَعبُدونِ﴾ [الذاريات: ٥٦] And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. - Saheeh International ﴿ما أُريدُ مِنهُم مِن رِزقٍ وَما أُريدُ أَن يُطعِمونِ﴾ [الذاريات: ٥٧] I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. - Saheeh International ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الرَّزّاقُ ذُو القُوَّةِ المَتينُ﴾ [الذاريات: ٥٨] Indeed, it is Allāh who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength. - Saheeh International ﴿فَإِنَّ لِلَّذينَ ظَلَموا ذَنوبًا مِثلَ ذَنوبِ أَصحابِهِم فَلا يَستَعجِلونِ﴾ [الذاريات: ٥٩] And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their companions [i.e., predecessors], so let them not impatiently urge Me. - Saheeh International ﴿فَوَيلٌ لِلَّذينَ كَفَروا مِن يَومِهِمُ الَّذي يوعَدونَ﴾ [الذاريات: ٦٠] And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised. - Saheeh International

﴿هَل أَتى عَلَى الإِنسانِ حينٌ مِنَ الدَّهرِ لَم يَكُن شَيئًا مَذكورًا﴾ [الإنسان: ١] Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? - Saheeh International ﴿إِنّا خَلَقنَا الإِنسانَ مِن نُطفَةٍ أَمشاجٍ نَبتَليهِ فَجَعَلناهُ سَميعًا بَصيرًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٢] Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. - Saheeh International ﴿إِنّا هَدَيناهُ السَّبيلَ إِمّا شاكِرًا وَإِمّا كَفورًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٣] Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. - Saheeh International ﴿إِنّا أَعتَدنا لِلكافِرينَ سَلاسِلَ وَأَغلالًا وَسَعيرًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٤] Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. - Saheeh International ﴿إِنَّ الأَبرارَ يَشرَبونَ مِن كَأسٍ كانَ مِزاجُها كافورًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٥] Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kāfūr, - Saheeh International ﴿عَينًا يَشرَبُ بِها عِبادُ اللَّهِ يُفَجِّرونَها تَفجيرًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٦] A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allāh will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. - Saheeh International ﴿يوفونَ بِالنَّذرِ وَيَخافونَ يَومًا كانَ شَرُّهُ مُستَطيرًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٧] They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. - Saheeh International ﴿وَيُطعِمونَ الطَّعامَ عَلى حُبِّهِ مِسكينًا وَيَتيمًا وَأَسيرًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٨] And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, - Saheeh International ﴿إِنَّما نُطعِمُكُم لِوَجهِ اللَّهِ لا نُريدُ مِنكُم جَزاءً وَلا شُكورًا﴾ [الإنسان: ٩] [Saying], "We feed you only for the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. - Saheeh International ﴿إِنّا نَخافُ مِن رَبِّنا يَومًا عَبوسًا قَمطَريرًا﴾ [الإنسان: ١٠] Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." - Saheeh International ﴿فَوَقاهُمُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ ذلِكَ اليَومِ وَلَقّاهُم نَضرَةً وَسُرورًا﴾ [الإنسان: ١١] So Allāh will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness - Saheeh International

When you stand up and speak advice them to not to gossip backbaiting they get offended and hate you and starts gossips about you judge you saying you are not good muslim enough then why you become sheikha advice them etc.
