Good morning Silki, Butterfly, Mr Garlicman & friends!! No you aren't mad Silki, Dottier lied, playing down the situation her Investment is in.. We all know she left it, to the last minute, to let visitors escape!! That is evidenced. Some people, from the start, have been so abusive about your reports, but you have always been on the ball, accurate, caring & have empathy for the Grindavik Residents. Also you have been much more responsible, in trying to inform the Public, of the real risk they have going there.. Last night too, I was thinking of those brave men, fighting to protect the pipes, the wall, the Lagoon, while using it's water to solidify the Lava. I am concerned for their health, breathing in the fumes, the heat, exhaustion. I hope they have no future health issues resulting from the Gases. Clearly the Lagoon is vulnerable, as we know, the Magma Lake under it, is close to the surface. There is no guarentee, lava streams are not making their way through, under the wall towards the Chamber. If it happens, it will be a catastrophic disaster. That I think, should be a focus, rather than reopening the Blue Lagoon. Thanks the Silki, you must be having a difficult time, but determidly continuing, to keep us updated, bless you ♥️🫶💯👏🙏🙏🙏

Silki: I think you have a better understanding of the situation than a lot of the other people. I have been chastised by several You Tubers when I said that “Lava will flow down hill”, they told me “No it doesn’t”. Obvious to intelligent people is the fact that the reason there is water at the Blue Lagoon is because it is the Low Spot. And why is the Lava trying to go to the Blue Lagoon??? Because it is down hill. A parking lot can be leveled off in one day. A road can be made in one hour. A new power plant will take a year. A new lagoon resort will take a bit longer since it gets its water from the power plant. The current situation depends on intelligent decisions.
@mlr4524
@mlr4524 21 күн бұрын
The Blue Lagoon is man-made outflow from the power plant, not from a natural water source. So the 'down hill' concept doesn't really apply here.

After living in Iceland for 70+ years and having an interest in geology, witnessing many eruptions, I have an idea how volcanic islands are formed. The hot water pipes are fine and people have plenty of hot water. This is not the first time something like this happens, lava has destroyed part of this road several times before. Things were critical yesterday but they have been using lava cooling and working on the walls, making them wider and higher. So all good. The lava isn’t as fast running as the first two days. But this isn’t something they will just finish tomorrow, it could take weeks. And there could well be another eruption after 3 months or so. I think ground uplift has started again in Svartsengi now!! I’m not quite sure but looks like it, and rising fast

The pipes may survive this round but they will probably need new bigger ones to increase available flow from the coast to defence sprinklers along with more, bigger sprinklers. With the current equipment, it almost looks like water evaporates before touching the lava when they start spraying. "The police chief does not expect the Blue Lagoon to re-open any time soon." Well, the lagoon's site says are temporarily closed until the 28th. Based on prior closures, that sounds like an implied tentative re-opening 2-3 days later unless public safety says otherwise on the 28th. (Edit: Oh, they already intended to re-open on the 25th before that... yikes.) The only thing that will really stop the lagoon from re-opening is if there isn't enough water left to run the place. Time to branch out into other activities just in case. At this time of the year, they could try lava-roasted chestnuts.

I may be wrong but I don't think the lava has to reach the water to harm the tourists. It just has to rise up under those pools of water. Then the water turns into acid of some kind. Like at Yellowstone. Many a tourists have fallen or jumped into those pools at Yellowstone never to emerge. Only bones were left. And you don't need magma in the water for that. Unsure exactly how it works but it works. Maybe the gas fumes go into the water?? But with that level of activity there its really risky to go into that water. And those fumes from that creeping lava!! 😮

The wall around the Blue Lagoon may be a temporary reprieve. However, there may be a couple of scenarios which may happens in the future. One, a fresh eruption may overflow the wall and consume the Blue Lagoon. Two, an eruption may happen within the Blue Lagoon. Only time will tell. From observations, it is difficult to predict when and where would the next one be, it could be in the middle of Granvik, or could happens at the city of Reyjavik or somewhere in the middle of nowhere!

No one knows how long the Svartsengi system will be erupting but scientists say it’s likely to end sooner rather than later. Then another system might start erupting, The Reykjanes system, The Krysuvik system or Brennisteinsfjoll. Who knows. For now, a fissure might open inside Grindavik and out to the sea, or not. But in Reykjavik? No. All these volcanic systems in Reykjanes are well know, we know from which systems to expect an eruption but not exactly when or which one

Lava is a fluid, they made a dam but dams are specially designed to resist a maximum amount of pressure. Have they considered the strength of the berm as a dam. they would have been much better making ditchs to divert the flow into lower land levels. from what I could make out the land in front and around the car park is much higher. Lastly just as with ice on a lake the top can be solid while fluids still flow beneath the surface
@tomnicholson2115
@tomnicholson2115 21 күн бұрын
Ditches would fill up much quicker than all the area behind a berm, and it would be impossible to clear a ditch out if it was full of hot lava, or lava that had solidified. It sounds like a great idea to have the lava flow where you want it to go, but it wouldn't be practical to keep emptying ditches or continuously digging new ditches.
@rosamarinosdottir
@rosamarinosdottir 20 күн бұрын
@@robhudson1501 The defensive walls were designed to divert, not to act as a dam. That is why the lava now runs alongside the wall and then to the north if I remember correctly. But it must have been difficult designing the walls not knowing where the eruptions would come up, how many etc. Anyway the walls work. If it weren’t for them the power plant and BL would certainly be gone. (I would not compare lava with water, frozen nor running) Two different things
@robhudson1501
@robhudson1501 20 күн бұрын
@rosamarinosdottir first of all fluid is fluid be is hot or wet. Second it has become a dam because there is nowhere for the lava to go. Nature is cruel but not understanding basic principles is a flaw. I hope it holds, I hope it all stops and the holes fill in Grindavik and everyone can go home. But the pressure behind that berm will increase as long as lava flows there and until it is breached it is a dam.

@rosamarinosdottir It was just a personal statement, if it offended you you didn't have to reply, since you did I defended my reasoning. I may be wrong but regardless fluids move to lower ground. The lowest ground in the area is Swartsengi, the land around it is higher. If you block the flow you make a dam. Call it whatever you like, I honestly do not care, but if the lava flows and pools there then the dam has to hold or break. If the dam was only built to divert then it has to be called out just in case. I don't comment for popularity, I comment because my voice is just as important than yours and if you don't like that don't reply.

"We have *always* closed *several* days in advance" - *LIARS!* "Walk With Me Tim" KZbin Channel stayed at The Blue Lagoon when at 5:30 am the earthquakes began, at 6:00 am the eruption alarm sounded, and by 6:30 am, while the evacuation was taking place, the eruption was happening. Tim says he can feel the heat from the eruption as he passes it on the road - and the lava closed the road down shortly after. The Blue Lagoon is located on *low ground.* If there is a breach, the lava will run towards the Lagoon pools. The intrinsic problem with the berms is that they are holding back molten rock with gravel. It doesn't have to go over... it could melt through. Human lives are what is most important - the Icelanders are so brave, fighting each eruption. I pray for everyone affected, and that no one else is hurt or killed.
