This reminds me of Reception in the US Army, Basic Training was a whole different regime, much more hardcore, but reception was mellow with a barracks setting, everyone hanging out and chill, and basic military procedures like rollcall, marching to and from barracks, etc. This seems easy especially for military vets.

For me, it's the Seasoned JoJo's in Piney Point's Galley. The best wedge cut fries. I even ask for extra ketchup packets and the stewards are so friendly and more than willing to oblige. One time I asked for ketchup packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly Piney Point steward laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!". Now the stewards greet me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at galley at piney point, I go there at least 21 times a week for lunch, breakfast, and dinner, I get a large diet pepsi, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is free, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs. I even dip my fries in the tartar sauce, it's delicious! What a great school.

Let’s go Sailor Dean! Loving the content. I just found your channel and I’ve been binge watching. You’re probably getting sick of this redundant question, and I apologize if I missed it but… You say that it took a year to get to AB and you make a survivable income once you get on a vessel for the OS portion of the apprenticeship, but don’t make shit while you’re at Piney. What would you say your total income was from the time you first stepped into Piney until you got that first AB check? I think a lot of us have this question, just due to baggage and shit. I’m trying to figure how much financial cushion I need to survive the apprenticeship. It’s honestly more about the adventure and lifestyle to me, but unfortunately money is still a factor. I’m 38, no kids and minimal baggage. I did auto body and the oilfield for almost 20 years. Now I’m an auto insurance claims desk jockey scum bag, and it’s fckn miserable lol. Merchant Mariner WILL be my new life. I just have to survive the apprenticeship, and I absolutely want the Piney notch on my belt. Not some academy that doesn’t guarantee shit. Keep it up bro!!
@SailorDean422 күн бұрын
The apprenticeship is a lot shorter now then when I went through it you get paid like an actual OS now for you second phase when I went through the program I had to wait till phase 4 to make any money now for you it should only be a couple months until you get paid once your in the program
@jcbenzo867922 күн бұрын
Well that makes it a hell of a lot easier to take the leap. Hopefully Piney isn’t booked out as far as some people say. I think I’m a solid candidate and I’m not afraid to bark up their tree until I get a response. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Thanks for the response!! Much appreciated!! Are you out on ship right now?
