I have a gold broom award, and best dressed seaman medal. I also hold the distinction of going to the bridge in coveralls and not told to change twice. In hide sight I should have gone to the engine room

I joined the Navy as a Nuke, the highest trained engineering job. I hated it, I didn't like working with my hands. I'd love to have been a Boatswain's Mate.

I was a heavy diesel mechanic for 16 years and am now an electrician, but i think i would like to go deck, being outside seeing those views! Sure it rains and it gets cold but to be outside in the freshest of air i dont think you could beat that!

One day I'd like to buy a sailing yacht and go off solo all over the world. Which would be better skills to get for that? Deck? (navigation) or engine room? (fixing diesel engines etc and electrics)

I signed up for engine department. I go to piney point in June. I like everything about it except cleaning and unclogging $h*t. I dont wanna clean $hxt 😭

If you’re a mate does that translate to shore positions? I want to go to a maritime academy for a deck license but i want to have the option to go shoreside when i get tired of sailing

I talk about that in the video very limited options to go shoreside as a mate but there are things like maritime logistics ABS or a boarding agent

I think everyone on these boats should be required to have an assigned weapon their and trained how to use it. It's unfathomable that boats of these sizes can be boarded and taken over by pirates on rickety little speed boats.

They have nurses on certain ships specifically medical ships and also on cable ships they have nurses the process to become a merchant marine would be the same for everyone

The other place for nurses is on cruise ships but they are looking for emergency certified nurses, met, and doctors. If you have your ALCS and ATLS certs and experience in the ER department and would like to cruise the world while dealing with folks on their vacation, there are positions available.
