Great to see someone who knows the difference between a sprag and a roller clutch. The amount of people(specifically some "experts") that think the term "sprag" is a generic term for all oneway clutches is staggering.

Also there is a mechanical diode and the rocker style one way clutch where the plates are not serviced seperately as in the 08-10 ford 5r110w low one way,,reverse planet assy

Nice Information, could you please explain the uses means where it is applicable of sprag clutch and roller clutch? Also, what are the other similar components to these one-way clutch?

Want to ask a question. Seem confusion the rotation which way.thinking I want to mount a smaller tires as a fly wheel that free spinding as the car stop.. does this do it? Want to charge my battery somehow. So it all motor bike has a auto clutch bearing?

Great Video! I have a 2004 Honda Odyssey with a bad one way clutch (sprag style) in its automatic transmission. When coming to a stop it sometimes doesn’t engage but I can get it going with putting the gear in low or 2nd manually. I’ve been driving like this for 1 month. How long do you think this one way clutch failure can last ? Will it get worse and ultimately fail ?

Yeah, those 5-speed sprags wear into the inner race, then sometimes don’t grab. When you put it in low range, you are applying a low clutch that helps prevent the sprag from freewheeling. The clutch doesn’t have as many frictions, so it cannot hold a ton of engine torque, but if you don’t accelerate too hard, it’ll probably work like that forever.

Any disadvantages or limitations,such as power reduction etc

A sprag clutch is more power dense than a roller-ramp type. Then, in general, a sprag cluch prefers the inner race to be the higher speed free-wheeling member. A roller-ramp prefers the outer race as the freewheeling member. There are exceptions as always. A sprag clutch will definately freewheel at higher rpm.

what component that prevent planetary carrier from rotating in two direction of rotation?. in KF4A222 transaxle

My u140f 4-speed automatic transmission is unable to shift into 4th gear, and I can figure out on my own what is causing that problem, but what is puzzling to me is that, apparently as a side-effect of that problem, I am now able to use my O/D button to engage/disengage engine braking. In other words, instead of the O/D button controlling whether or not the transmission is allowed to shift into 4th gear or not, now the O/D button instead controls engine braking. Anybody know how that might be possible?

Thank for the Video. Very Useful content. I understand this is used as One-way Clutch. Do you have something where clutch can be used for bi-directional rotation. I mean allows input torque transmission to output in both Cw and CCW direction but it stops transmitting from Output to Input. Basically to prevent Backdriving of Prime mover due to exteranl load on Output side?

Many years ago I worked for a company that designed and manufactured turnstiles, the kind you might find in railway stations and football grounds. A new model turnstile was designed for a specific customer. In place of the traditional pawl-and-rachet the new design used a one-way bearing. Instead of the usual click-click sound this one was totally silent and could not be turned in the no-go direction, not even by the smallest degree. In applications where a mechanical device is used by thousands of people every day, even the remotest possibility of an accident is likely to become evident sooner or later. This became sadly true and resulted in the death of a child. Mechanical engineers, please be warned. The old pawl-and-rachet seems intrinsically safe. After each click, the turnstile can be rotated backwards by a small amount and provides a margin of safety under extreme conditions of use.

Thanks for sharing. I can see how that sprag design could cause problems in a turnstile.

If you check the auto trans playlist, you'll see more videos on basics and some in-depth videos on certain units. I cover the powerflow, hydraulics, and electronics on many transmissions.

@siuautomotive2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the same design. The 55 handles a little more torque.

@@siuautomotive could you do more videos about that trans or link some more videos about it. I’m trying to learn about it and ask companies to build a stronger transmission.
