I'm an intermediate surfer and this is perhaps the most useful tutorial that you have done. Thank you.

Fresh surf tips...... What surfboard (measure)would you recommend for these summer waves for an intermediate surfer 1,84 tall ( 6'1 feet )....and 73 kg ( 161lbs ) ?
@HowtoRip
@HowtoRip 3 жыл бұрын
There are many factors that need to be considered Samu, so it is hard to answer that. I would recommend doing your own research. You can use your current surfboard as a starting point though. Some people will increase by 2-4 litres when they drop down to a small wave board. The way that volume is distributed will change due to the design. Eg: shorter, wider and thicker, rather than longer, narrower and thinner. Hope that helps.

I agree , I am trying different boards on different waves and conditions. Sometimes in the same session it is necessary to have a couple of boards. I will keep trying and of course improving my surf to see what is better for me. Surf is a science... Thanks for your videos....helps a lot!

Hay so i just transitioned from a 7'0 log to a 5'7 puddle jumper, the only problem i have is my pop up. I can pop up perfectly without my knees and toes on a yoga mat and a such but i cant seem to pop up on my shortboard without needing to use my knees. Any suggestions?😆🤙
@SpitFogo
@SpitFogo 3 жыл бұрын
Just keep on practicing, step by step, you’ll realize that you’re not using the knee as much as the time before ;)

@@goose-br4gg In my own case I’ve narrowed persistent similar problems to my strength/mobility in a couple of areas that are key to the pop-up. Essentially weak hip flexors and lower abs. Followed by lats/triceps/chest. The fixes (all with perfect form; never sloppy as you are as much training your brain for correct muscle sequence as you are building muscular fitness): - strength: push ups (lats/triceps/chest) - strength: jack knives on fit ball (hip flexors and lower abs) - skill: draw an outline of your Puddle Jumper on a yoga mat, with centre line, and practice practice practice getting to your feet - skill: experiment placing your BACK foot momentarily before your front ... making more of a smooth transition to your feet. This sounds like what is often called the ‘chicken wing’ technique but the whole transition is eventually so quick it will become a fluid movement. The alternate is to thrust from your knees (bum going upward) doing the traditional spring, but this takes much more fitness in those hip flexors & abs etc. - keep your hands on the board after that rear foot is placed and only immediately your front foot gets grounded do you get your hands/arms up.

That is a fairly big reduction in length, I think it will just take more time in the water + more waves to improve.

For me, when I surf a bunch of little waves then a big swell hits I’m not used to the speed and fall off

Hey Lucy, yeah a big jump in size is much more challenging to adapt to. I was referring more to 1-2ft waves and then up to 3-4.
