I worked at many of these rides as an employee of Six Flags. Working at the Free Fall in the 90s, one could easily collect twenty to thirty dollars in change every night after closing.

I lived up the street from Six Flags in '84, I and my friends would sneak in all the time. We would go in through the woods by the Mind bender or one friend that had a pass would go in then come right back out and get stamped with UV ink so they could go back in. We would meet him in the restroom at the entrance and he would transfer the ink from his wrist to ours so we could go in at the entrance. We had a lot of friends that worked there too. We always got our food and drinks free! We had one friend that worked at the gift shop, we would go in and load up on anything we wanted! At the time I was young and it was the 80s so I didn't think about if it was right or wrong then. I saw the Go Gos there, Red Rocker, and best of all, Night Ranger. I met a lot of girls there too, a lot! Well, I was cute then. Pretty good memories at Six flags.

My mom is from Atlanta and all of her family lives there. I remember my aunt’s and my mom taking me to six flags OG every summer in the 80’s when I was a kid. I rode Free Fall the first year it was put in, scared the shit outta me. Had to be talked into it. I remember the mind bender when it was brown and riding the Georgia Cyclone when it was the new ride. That park might as well have been Disney World to me and I had some great times there.

Remember when the splash from Splashwater Falls went much farther and would completely soak everyone on the bridge. Now it barely gets to it and barely gets you wet. I don't know why there has been a change with this.

The Great Gasp (it and Looping Starship were replaced by Goliath), The Great Six Flags Air Racer (replaced by Acrophobia), and Flying Dutchman (replaced by Batman: The Ride). Ninja later replaced Z-Force... just like Dare Devil Dive later replaced Free Fall...and Superman: Ultimate Flight replaced Viper. Log Jamboree, Thunder River, Monster Mansion (former Monster Plantaiton), and Mine Train are still there too. This bring back memories.

That flipping spaceship can eat one. Tried that ride in my mid teens and the upper body harness didn't lock and my remaining support was a bar that went between my legs with a cushion that was holding my waist and upper legs in place. Needless to say I had to wrap my legs around the bar and curl my arms under it to hold on. Loathe that ride.

The z force was an awesome coaster but I think they had some complaints of neck injuries. I think that's why they retired it so early. The viper was also a great ride. I think the Ninja is now standing where the z force was in the 80's.

@Matt Beeman "Only" one child died on that ride in 1989. He was 11 years old and the autopsy was inconclusive b/c I don't think there was an apparent injury. People heard about it and the legend grew that a few people had died on the Z-Force. I do remember people would say the ride made there neck hurt (just like the Ninja). They ended up removing it not even a year later after that kids passing giving it only a two year run.

tip - ride in the middle seats on cyclone and scream machine. the wood is old so the track is very rough. any of the seats in the front or back can bruise rib cage and back quickly. feel every bump and screw through the whole ride. Couldn't walk or lay down comfortable next day after riding in back seat. ouch. look for seats 5 6 or 7, fairly comfortable ride.

Correction: The Viper (which you say was Greased Lightning) was actually the Tidal Wave from Six Flags Great America. It came to SFOG in 1994 the year after I visited SFGA because they were breaking ground for the first Batman coaster. I participated in the work to create the Viper experience.

+Daehawk Unless it was relocated at one point before I can recall in the early 90s, the Wheelie sat where the "Skyscreamer" swings are now located, on the edge of the lick skillet section. It was actually just removed a couple years back.

Daehawk, the wheelie's original location in the 80s was at the location of where the Looping Starship would eventually go. That is, it was over by the Great Gasp. When Looping Starship came, I believe that is when it was moved to the present-day Sky Screamer in the Lickskillet section of the park.

@bandsreunited8 жыл бұрын
This is great video; however, this is not the Looping Starship model from SFOG. Two distinctive clues state otherwise: 1) The ONLY ride that could be seen from the Starship at entry ground level when it operated (1985 season, then again from 1989 to 2005) was the Sky Buckets. Also, the 1985 model did not have a 'cage top' above the carriage as seen here when it was at SFOGa. The Z-Force video may be the only video, not counting advertisements, to appear on youtube. An Intamin "Dive Coaster", it was actually a friendly experience overall. Shame Magic Mountain demolished it a few years back.
@GarretGrayCamera4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking maybe it was moved one year. I kind of remember it started off without the cage but then put one on later. PS: I always imagined if the restraints failed and someone fell to the cage, they'd have to hold on for dear life until the ride stopped!
@atl200311 жыл бұрын
Z-Force moved to Magic Mountain, where it was renamed Flashback... it's no longer there. Sadly, an Alabama boy died after riding Z-Force in 1989. Viper moved to Kentucky Kingdom, where it was renamed Greezed Lightnin'... that park is currently closed. I remember Free Fall and Looping Starship. Scream Machine, Mind Bender, and Splash Water Falls are still there. Splash Water Falls needs refurbishing. Wheelie was retired at the end of 2012, to make room for new SkyScreamer.
@mastermind60656 жыл бұрын
atl2003 I was working there at Z-Force when the boy died. He apparently had an issue with his heart which was triggered by the ride. That's why the park posts warnings.
