It's a Christmas miracle, lads! After five months, I finally succeeded in ripping this documentary from the second of the two "Relics from the Vault" DVDs! Nothing related to the Okefenokee here, unfortunately, but it's a very interesting watch regardless, and a great look at Six Flags Over Georgia as it was before it became "Looney Tunes and DC World". Special thanks to the madmen who created VidCoder for allowing me to finally resolve this long, long disaster.
Download for this documentary, as well as for a bunch of other stuff: drive.google.com/drive/folder...

This is the Six Flags I remembered and love! It is nothing like this anymore. We had season passes last year and its heartbreaking to see it the way it is now. There is so much potential for ths park IF they would go back to their roots.

My first trip was in 1975, I was 7 and it cost $7.00 to get in. We always went in the back entrance. The scream machine was my first real roller coaster. I've been going back ever since. The park's coasters are awesome! We watched the dolphins and divers, watched the show at the Crystal Pistol when we got too hot to walk around the park, and ALWAYS rode the sky buckets. Wonderful memories...

THIS! This brought back so many memories and made me smile. Also a bittersweet reminder how simpler life in general was back then, but also the industry.

My family are from Atlanta. We started going to Six Flags as soon as I was old enough in about 1972, age 5. My sister was 3. As a family we probably attended three or four times a year until my sister and I were 10 and 12 and then mom would actually safely drop us off at the park at opening and pick us up at closing. Sis and I had season tickets every year between 1980 and 1984 so we'd go multiple times each summer. We even remember John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard being in the Crystal Pistol show, covered in the last few minutes of this film. In the 80s Six Flags held concerts at sundown for major acts like Billy Idol, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and the Beach Boys. My favorite childhood memories include Six Flags---it was unforgettable and can never be repeated, even before 2020.

I was born in the early 80s. As a child I remember how clean and nice SFOG used to be. There were always young people working summer jobs and walking around sweeping and picking up trash. It was really nice! I haven't been in many many years but I remember it went downhill like the rest of Atlanta.

I was so young when I rode Jean Ribault that I barely even remember it. The same for the Okefenokee ride, before it became the Monster Plantation which turned into the Monster Mansion. I remember all those attractions that aren't around anymore, from the Jolly Roger ride to the tilt house to the Chevy Show to the Yahoola Hooler. As an adult, going isn't nearly as much fun as it was when I was a kid, because the park is no longer being kept up, and it just seems like a cash grab with nothing authentic, just licensed merchandise.
@okefenokee_rabbit
@okefenokee_rabbit Жыл бұрын
That seems to be fate of every theme park, unfortunately. They always lose their original theming in favor of licensed IPs and generic coasters. I think Monster Plantation was really the last attraction at SFOG that made an effort to adhere to the park's intended theme, and that was all the way back in 1981.

AHHHHHH !!!! THE MEMORIES !!!! I was born in 1968, and, my family used to go to SFOG once a year. Because of having the illness Reye's Syndrome in 1978, I have very few memories of my childhood. But, going to this Six Flags is something I will *NEVER* forget !!! One ride that wasn't in this video that I remember being terrified of is those big red sky buckets. Can't remember what they were called, but, even though I was terrified of them, I ALWAYS rode them with my Daddy and sister while my two brothers were off somewhere else in the park, and, our Mamma waited for us below cause she couldn't take the height. That was all back when it was actually safe to go off on your own if you were a kid. As I said: AHHH THE MEMORIES !!!!

They really screwed themselves over with corporate IP-themed attractions and unabashedly-ugly architecture and signage. Virtually all theme parks are doomed to lose their soul in more or less this same way. I would say SFOG's decline in "thematic integrity" began when Castillo De Soto (the Spanish fort) was replaced with the "Pac-Man Play Fort" in 1983, if not even earlier, particularly when the pirate-themed area was added for the 1980 season.

I don’t know if it will make you feel better or worse when I tell you that you are 100 percent correct! I worked there from 79 to 83 and it was every bit as great as you are thinking. We weren’t paid worth a crap but the whole experience both in the park as well as the after hours off-property activities were the stuff of legends. You really were born too late as that period of time was like no other. I have not been back to SFOG in probably 15 years

1977: a year of ends, and beginnings: it was the year Elvis Presley died, yet it was also a year of new, monumental beginnings: especially with Star Wars. Also, I'm WAY younger than when this video was shot but I actually don't mind looking back on nostalgia... Even if it wasn't my type...

Both this film and the Okee footage are 480p, actually. The reason my "Accurate Audio Mix" appears as though it's 1080p is because I created it with a video editing program instead of directly ripping it from somewhere.
