Thank you so much for squeezing it down to show how small it compacts. Looking to use this instead of my dcf pyramid when volume matters, so I've been searching for a review that compressed it.

Absolutely! I am really focused more on space than weight as I get older, so I am glad to hear it was helpful!

Just ordered mine today and can't wait to try it. It's part of my moving toward a 40 liter pack and a lower base weight. Hoping to be around 13 pounds, realistically.
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone Жыл бұрын
13 lbs is certainly doable. The more and more I try other tents, the more convinced I am that this is the best one out there by way of price-to-value-to-quality. How do you like yours so far?

@@OutsideComfortZone Tried it in the back yard during a rainy day. Not overnight. But was a good test never the less. I'm excited to take it into the back country! Will share it with my 80 lb dog!

Looks tricky but I like the concept, and the weight. Great review man! Clearly you know your tents. I dabble in tents but I really stink at anything mildly complex. 🤣

Haha! Not going to lie, this one took a while to learn how to set up consistently. It's worth it, even for a caveman like me! ha!

Loved the review, I wish my tent was as compact... mine is kinda bulky. I have to practice the set up a few more times before the trail. Fixed my logistics btw. Gonna be able to thru hike from Waterton straight through to Durango, instead of the dreaded flip flop. Yay! I hope to see you out there! 🏕
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone 3 жыл бұрын
That's AMAZING to hear about your thru hike plans! I know you were disappointed when you thought it'd be a flip flop. What kind of tent are you taking? Bulky isn't always bad if it has some great amenities with it! Bigger often means more stable and more spaces :)

@@OutsideComfortZone Lols! It's SMALLER. 😬 But, it is easy to set up and is double walled. I'm bringing my Tarptent Notch Li. Aside from the bulk- I really like it...I'm only 5 ft tall so a one person tent is fine for me and gear. The ONLY advantage to being a shorty!

I'm in the market for a trekking pole tent. So hard to decide what's most important. The bug net on this one is real interesting.

This one is great, but you can also find some great, affordable options from SMD online. You headed outside this weekend? been loving your videos, SH!

@@OutsideComfortZoneReally appreciate that. Not this weekend. Unfortunately we are in a stage in our life where all our friends are getting married. So my spring backpacking season is not good. :) Eyes are set on the fall though!

That was great! Never knew about the bug netting. I always discounted tarps because of mosquitos in Alaska, but maybe this would work?

You know what they say about Alaska: there are two seasons--winter and mosquitoes, haha! It's an incredible state, truly.

I've got about 500 miles on a Yama Mtn Gear 10x8 silpoly tarp (14 oz) paired with a MLD Bug Bivvy 2 (8 oz) and a CroMoly ground sheet. I love the open feel of the tarp and while it can be a pain to set up sometimes (Oregami in the Woods) I've yet to get wet in a downpour or blown away. Like you said, you need to think about where the weather might be coming from. However, all of my miles with the tarp have been in the woods, and am wondering how I'll fare on more exposed sections of the CT . . . have you seen many flat tarps on CT?
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great setup! I think you’re going to love the way it performs on the CT. I did 250 miles with a poncho tarp without problems, and I had much less experience than you. How do you like the MLD bivy?
@rickcollman351
@rickcollman351 3 жыл бұрын
@@OutsideComfortZone The MLD Bug Bivvy 2 has a 3-4" bathtub and some silnylon on the head/foot, so it's a bit more than just netting. I really like the ridgeline zip which makes easy in/out (no crawling in from one end or side). I generally have an ridgeline over which I place the tarp, so I attach the bivvy head/foot to the ridgeline with two prusik knots. The bivvy, while only 24" tall, I find roomy for solo; and the tarp has TONS of room for gear.
