Idk about anyone else but $6.34 per DAY to feed your family of 8 is absolutely mind bending AMAZING!!! Banana's are definitely something I tend to buy at stupid pricing, not excessive, but stupid pricing lol, it is such a great snack for the kids and it makes smoothies creamy and urgh lol. Now that I have the freezer though, I definitely need to make sure when they're really cheap to buy multiple boxes so I don't have to buy as many when they're expensive!

Mum has an air fryer and I cook us meals in it most of the time I'm there hehe, she buys in one night and then I grab stuff with my shopping and cook the other night or two hehe... it's wonderful, but a different use than for us as a family, can cook two peoples entire meal in it, but for me, I'm liking the idea of things like frozen potato chips, because they never work as well in an oven, and potaotes are something we regularly run out of by the end of the 6 weeks, so if I could have some bags of them in the freezer as sides for meals! But I think it might be good for quick lunches too, rather than long winded on the bbq! The tooth is still bothering me slightly but its pretty good now, still finishing off the second course of antibiotics atm

I love these shopping / budget breakdowns. There’s around two Aussie dollars to a pound sterling, so the idea that you are feeding everyone for a pound each per meal is amazing, particularly given the type and variety of food that you’re producing. I can see that forking out that sort of money all at once would be daunting for anyone! But when you break it down you can see exactly how much you are actually saving by shopping the way you do, and how much harder it would be on the budget if you did it any other way. You done good, girl!
@OurSmallFootprint9 ай бұрын
It definitely wasn't doable on a more regular shopping cycle, it just didn't work out as cost efficient, only by dragging it out to these longer shopping trips could I bring the costs down, its weird isn't it, spending a big sum once every six weeks makes my overall shopping cheaper lol. It does make for an extremely expensive trip, but I think because I have a running cashflow I can see that the money isn't spent between shops so it makes it easier to tolerate! But its not something you can just start doing on a whim, definitely takes some planning!

There was a definite learning curve to it, figuring out the quantities to make sure it lasted with hopefully a bit of a surplus etc. But the big thing is a change in the way you consume too, most people say they just couldn't not have fresh fruit and veg each week, and whilst that would be ideal (and hopefully eventually the garden will provide better) its not 'necessary' to still have a well banalced diet

I’ve used the Ecos brand laundry soap for years. I do use less soap than most because I’ve heard different repair men say you don’t need as much as they recommend. They do this so use more/buy more. I do add a cap of bleach per load. I find it kills any odours/ disinfectant, especially in towels. I did use a non-bleach solution when my kids were younger and it worked well. Especially because I had young helpers then there were no bleach accidents. I love all grocery hauls. ❤

I'm a bit of a stingy user as well, but all the kids seem to be overusers lol, just a kid thing I'm sure, so we'll figure out a way for Surreal to know her portions, a pump bottle that needs two pumps or something, the cap has lines on it I think, but its such a big awkward bottle I don't think she's managing to stay in the line when she's pouring, if she's even using the cap lol.

For the oil, I generally avoid anything that's not coconut or olive oil as seed oils are linked to inflammation and other health issues. Rapeseed (canola) oil has high levels of erucic acid which can damage heart tissue.
@OurSmallFootprint9 ай бұрын
I only really use it for one or two dishes that I fry in a few inches of oil, they normally have the cold pressed vegetable oil which works well for that purpose, I used to buy rice bran oil but Costco doesn't seem to have that either!

I understood that canola oil is a genetically-modified type of rapeseed - it’s not rapeseed oil as we know it, at least here in the UK. I use cold-pressed British rapeseed oil for most of my cooking, given that EVOO is unsuitable for cooking and most “olive oil” (as opposed to EVOO) you can buy these days seems to be mixed with other stuff to make it cheaper. But it’s all a bit of a minefield, for sure.
