How Strong is Obi-Wan Kenobi?

In this video I simply go over Obi Wan in a powerscaling and Narrative aspect throughout his major appearances in the franchise. This video was recorded prior to the Kenobi shows release so don't mind any conflicting statements the only one I can see maybe being an issue is that Obi Wan might become his strongest self in the show after his second fight with Vader.

I'd actually argue that Obi-Wan doesn't peak till New Hope or shortly before it given the narrative implications of defeating Darth Maul so quickly and easily. It's a visual representation of him becoming better than Maul and his older self.

No obi wan hit his peak at rots. Maul was fatigued and his legs were rusting. He as well wanted to die at this point. Maul also uses the form he used against qui gon witch obi wan has replayed in his head many times so he could easily counter it. Maul has always been above obi wan. Obi-Wan defeated Maul and Savage in a 2V1 on Florrum. He broke Savage's leg and cut his arm off. Maul had to run away to save their lives from Obi-Wan and then eventually Hondo. Obi-Wan as a Padawan defeated Maul on Naboo. Obi-Wan defeated Maul on Tatooine. This actually puts Obi-Wan at a positive win ratio against Maul as Maul only defeated Obi-Wan twice and all of Maul's victories he did with help from Savage. Obi-Wan won all his fights alone or alone after his ally had died. So the claim he's always been above Obi-Wan is pretty shaky. While we could probably go back and forth debating the specifics of each fight and poke holes for each side (Maul was fatigued on Tatooine or Obi-Wan didn't know Savage was there on Raydonia until he was ambushed) it's pretty clear narratively Maul is the lesser of the two by the end of his journey and from a purely power scale perspective w/o narratively implications Maul has the least wins and the least legitimate wins so even if Maul is stronger the evidence for that simply isn't there. >Rebel's Maul as well is just a beast being stated around the level of vader Maul states outright on Malachor he can't beat Vader and that he needs Ahsoka, Ezra, and Kanan to beat him. >and above ashoka Maul has never beaten Ahsoka in a fight. She wins on Mandalore and during Rebels they briefly fight before Ahsoka leaves to help Ezra. Maul is then defeated easily by a Kanan who just had his eye balls melted. Maul loosing to Kanan is a example of Maul just being overconfident rather than Kanan actually being *that* strong but Maul still hasn't beaten Ahsoka once and has a negative win ratio against her loosing 100 percent of the time they fought to conclusion.

We see when ever maul goes all out on obi wan he slaps him with the force witch i can send clips of since maul does it like 3 times.So Maul>Obi wan is clear.It's clear Maul is above Obi wan Maul's whole Narrative is that his blood lust and thirst for vengeance ruins him thats why he is losing to fodder. Maul is stated in the realm of vader so he is on the same tier of power.Maul can beat afraid of him thats fine but that does not mean he is not on his tier.Maul as well is just stated a good match for vader by filoni. Okay yet again Maul was holding back on Ashoka and wanted to lure her to the darkside and thought he and her at their full potential could beat Palpatine and a Hypothetical Vader.Maul is shown to doing better against the Inqusitors than Ashoka as well.Maul and Ashoka fight and stalemate while Maul is playing around. Okay so the thing about Kanan is he has this ability where he can become one with the force and get a huge amp witch is stated by his VA and Dave filoni. Kanan when fighting maul goes into his this force amped state and defeats a maul that was just playing around. Kanan does this force amp thing against the GI as well.

With the new Kenobi show theory's I have I gather that he'll probably peak in Ep 6 of this first season and there is a rumored season 2 so I gather he'd get stronger there as well and possibly in season 3 it was a no brainer disney would continue the series after it had the literal biggest opening weekend on disney+ out of all the shows so yea.

with kenobi his defeat of vader may actually be his greatest feat. he annihilated him. he had him on the verge of death. and he could’ve easily killed him if he really wanted to. while vader is so much stronger in the force, i feel like obi-wan genuinely solidified himself as one of the greatest lightsaber combatants in the universe. the fact that he is able to move as quickly and as efficiently as he does while also using a defensive style is baffling. also his defeat of maul in rebels, which took him three swings of his blade, is a crazy feat, as maul is known as one of the greatest sith assassins in the universe. in a new hope, i believe that if he really wanted to, he could’ve defeated vader there as well. honestly obi wans feats are absolutely ridiculous and he deserves the recognition and hype

Obi-Wan was one of the few Jedi in the order who would’ve been capable of taking general Grevious in a 1v1. He was literally designed to kill Jedi in lightsaber Combat , but Obi-Wans mastered form was a perfect match for grevious. In the books I believe it said he was defending over 20 strikes a second. & even though Anakin had the strongest connection to the force ever recorded he matched him with force push & defeated him in lightsaber combat. Although I’ll admit it came down to experience and Anakins arrogance, defeating dark side anakin is a huge feat.

Good video. There is actually a statement from "Lightsabers a guide to the weapons of the force" that says Dooku's familiarity with Kenobi's fighting style let him win while the junior novel heavly implies that when he was ragdolled by Dooku, Kenobi was caught off guard.

Hey Six, I think you should have covered Obi-wan's final fight with Maul in Starwars Rebels. That fight is truly the peak of mastery for Obi-wan. As flashy and famously long as the Anakin/Obi-wan fight was, the final fight between Obi-wan and Maul was finished after only three blows. But the importance of the fight lies in the narrative and story of the stances they take as they size each other up both being absolute masters of lightsaber combat and eternal enemies (at least in maul's eyes) at this point. You should give that scene a watch and maybe watch a break down of it.

Also maul was a sith apprentice not assassin palpatine even stated this in his secrets of the sith book. Maul as well trains before rebels where it's stated he mastered his skills and even learned the same kind of magic his mother uses. Maul as well trains even after he stops being a sith apprentice. Obi wan ranking up doesn't matter as we know even the weakest of jedi can become jedi masters. Maul I'd say has better skill than obi wan. Maul is stated to have mastered form 7 and form 6 he as well is called the master of the double sided lightsaber. He is also stated above dooku in dueling in the everything you need to know about star wars guide. Maul also does well against palpatine in their duel where it's stated near the end palpatine went all out.

Here's the thing about Obi Wan vs Anakin at the end of episode 3. There were other statements that Anakin and Obi Wan were = in strength and skill. I don't remember if they were from the novels or other sources, but even with Anakin being conflicted, his Dark Side amps made him stronger than he was previously. And the part about Obi-Wan keeping up only due to knowing Anakin's moves doesn't exactly make sense or hold up since Anakin also knows all of Obi Wan's moves. Their knowledge cancels each other out. That and Anakin was amped more than usual due to the Dark Side I believe it was said somewhere that as Anakin kept amping himself with the Dark Side, Obi-Wan tapped into the living force, getting into a flow state or the zone, similar to the Grevious fight, but at a much higher level iirc

What I always loved about obi-wan in the eu was he had the lowest midi-chlorian count on the council and it was through hard work and dedication he even made it on the council. Cannon kenobi doesn’t have nearly enough feats to show that progression we see in the eu.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it stated Dooku sought to defeat Obi-Wan first as form 3 was a direct counter to Dookus form as well as forcing it into a 1v1 with Anakin, increasing his chances of victory. Even though Anakin had more raw power than Obi-Wan, Dooku still viewed Kenobi as the greater threat due to his form 3 mastery and his normal combat shenanigans. I could be off here but I swear I read something about that.

anakin doesnt get outplayed, that scene is sooooooo much deeper, when obi wan tells anakin dont do the flip move its cause he did it himself against maul, but anakins whole thing basically is he was better than obi wan and if obi wan could do it do maul, he could do the move against obi wan cause he is greater which makes sense but its the arrogance in the dark side speaking, there is guides basically saying all anakin had to do was wait and would of been fighting on land evenly with kenobi but instead he did the flip. Count dooku was the master of quigon. Quigon is Obiwan’s master. Dooku knows a lot of the moves and tricks in obiwans arsenal by nature. Also, him losing to dooku, in a way, is plot. He performs incredibly well, but when the duo fights dooku, these moments are primarily focused on Ani’s tendency to tap into the dark side in dire situations. Obiwan is taken out the battle, to help showcase this.

Something you should keep in mind in the future when doing Star Wars power scaling is that there two different timelines, the Disney and the legends continuities. If you want to Chad awesome scaling go to the legends continuity. But if you want the week virgin scaling go to Disney.

A feat of Obi Wan I wanted to point out that I don't think you ever mentioned, he also use the force to reverse the polarity of Grievous' and later Anakin's cybernetic arm, to disarm them in both cases I believe. Not only could Obi Wan apply the force powerfully, but he did it in ways nobody even thought of. Many Jedi never did that to Grievous, and one can assume it's because they didn't think to and lacked the wits to pull it off.

The comment comparing OB1 to Yoda and Mace I don’t think shows anakins ignorance. He suggests OB1 is as wise as Yoda and powerful as Mace both statements I think can be argued. mace vs OB1 is definitely not a no dif easy win for Mace it’s a conversation and would be quite the duel. As far as wisdom OB1 is probably not as wise as Yoda but his intuition cleverness and wisdom would certainly scale I think and he is one of the few to master force ghost with full ability to manifest his body. he’s been my favorite character since first seeing a new hope as a child in the 90s and reinforced by Ewans portrayal in the prequels. @@Vader255 you're not pulling anything that suggests Windu could beat OB1 in a duel/fight. Your suggestion that its no difficulty is what i take the biggest issue with. And forms matter a lot. OB1 is a great match up for him. Mace admitted himself he couldn't have beaten grevious in battle. From midiclorian count OB1 is more connected to the force because his is higher technically. People wank Windu hard but his feats dont bare out much in lore if you take them feat to feat. I would have love to have seen Windu actually duel sidious but its clear and stated he let windu win or have the upper hand in their battle. Just overall what has Mace done feat wise that would suggest he no diffs OB1 both in their primes? It is far closer to 50/50 than you think.

@@13thCloverr midchlorian count doesn't matter to much its mostly just potential and that stuff isn't even really brought up in canon. How am I not pulling anything that says Mace can't win In a fight I just proved he scales above dooku who has superior dueling and force ability to obi wan so mace smacks. Well yeah it's a stomp for mace it's not a contest obi wan has no statements for feats that compare to Mace. You do know it's stated Palpatine lost to mace fair and square. I mean it's even stated Palpatine put his full power into his lighting blast that mace deflected and used to scar Palpatine with. Palpatine is just stated to go all out against him many times witch I can get for you if you want them. It's clear mace just stomps he is superior in every way Mace stomps 10/10

Great Video, little sad that you did mention during the midoclorian count that Obi wan actually has some of the worst levels among the jedi and he had to overcome that with his cunning intellect and years of training
