Power creep. You can't see any visual prowess affecting the battlefield, there is no physical feedback, there's no eye-candy on a massive scale, unless you want to count the Infinite Tsukuyomi . Trees aren't being destroyed, land isn't being exploded, no one is shooting lasers. It is however a lot more interesting in 1v1's to see who can outwit each other. My favorite instance is still how Sasuke 'genjutsued' Danzo into thinking one of his 'arm-eyes'? was still open. My one complaint about Genjutsu is how it was mostly ocular. We really only got variations with Tayuya and Ma and Pa who used sound. It would've been interesting to see Genjutsu activate with other senses, but I get why Kishmoto used it the way he did. My favorite genjutsu was Sasuke fooling Danzo with the izanagi eyes because it was simple and effective. Variety with genjutsu is the key. Not everything needs to be paralysis or mind control. Take Sarada versus Boro for instance, she could have used genjutsu on Boro to make him think he shifted his core, then Boruto could have blown off the top of his body and killed him. @@jus_ice_4433 I don’t think that makes any sense. Genjutsu is hard to write into a fight properly. Especially since nowadays a lot of people just care about big explosions and cool colors during a fight. This is the problem I find with most magic systems in media. As threats grow in power, so does the scale of abilities. But then you reach a point, like in Naruto, where it gets so damn ludicrous, you gotta find a way to tone it down which leads to retcons and complete reworks of what used to be foundational to series. As soon as Naruto went the DBZ route of making Otsusuki clan some damn aliens, I lost interest. The series hasn't been about ninja since then imo. Naruto went from being a nobody to learning his DNA is LITERALLY PART ALIEN and it's dumb to me. Hyuga, Uchiha, Senju, and by extension, the Uzumaki are all part alien and that killed the "shinobi" vibe for me.

You should make a video covering how terrible 90% of ninjutsu was through out the series as well. I think one of the many faults of Naruto as a series is that many jutsu didn't end up being threatening at all. Save for hacks abilities like rinnegan, various MS abilities, flying raijin, wood release etc. It would have been cool to see the more ordinary jutsu be more threatening then it was. And I think it turned out this way because Naruto characters started getting a little too powerful. So I think they could have fixed this by straight up nerfing Naruto characters, and not necessarily just writing jutsu to be more powerful. Personally, I think the highest level should have just been Kage level. Of course not all kage level characters would be equal, but roughly in the same tier. I think this would have made for a more grounded experience. Instead of in order to be considered powerful in Boruto, you need to be God-like.
@commander1suv492 Жыл бұрын
Genjutsu is just so open and without limits that it makes it hard to actually use it in the story. Theoretically any high level fights can use genjutsu to just fuck with the opponents: which will get confusing when actually seeing it or watching it. Especially when there's supposed like 4000+ genjutsu, that Hiruzen knows ALONE. It could also be used very lazily to escape situations like how substitution jutsu is practically teleportation jutsu at a small distance and used just to subvert a mistake most of the time.

I really do think Genjutsu would work well on Kawaki. Especially the subtle kinda (like Sasuke making Danzo believe he had more Sharingan left than he actual did). Kawaki just isn't experienced enough in deception, let alone Genjutsu. He wouldn't even recognize what was going on to fight against it.

The problem with genjutsu is that it's just illusions. I think in terms of writing, it's just a no-win situation as it's too easy to be used as a crutch for twists or padding a fight, or could easily become too broken in universe, I think kishimoto made the right call abandoning it and using it sparingly

Recognize that you are in genjutsu and just alter the flow of chakra a tiny bit. That breaks you out. Itachi's personal skill made it difficult for orochimaru to break out without focusing for a few seconds, but it was significant because NOBODY could cast genjutsu that strong. Itachi flipped kurenai's genjutsu on her by noticing it, altering his chakra and casting the same genjutsu on her at a higher level that requires more concentration to break. Genjutsu has strength that makes it harder to break, and subtle genjutsu make it so you never even try, such as in Sasuke's fight against danzo. Danzo would have won if he noticed he was in a genjutsu.

Genjutsu should be sneaky, subtle. Sasuke's way with Danzo is the best demonstration. Inducing your opponent a minimum error that costs their life later on the fight. But they pushed it too far, paralysis and mind control in a blink of an eye are hard concepts to surpass in terms of power balance. Who can win against it? The easy way out was giving the relevant characters and villains straight out immunity against it, just like they can absorb all ninjutsu. Now, 2/3 of the established power system is irrelevant. Talk about good writing...

One of the coolest applications of Genjustu in Boruto would've been in the fight against Jigen. I've always thought we'd get to see more of Jigen outside of Isshiki's control, since his body cracked and he started crying. But we got nothing. What if, in the fight against Jigen, Sasuke puts Jigen (the body) under a Genjustu, which supresses Isshiki's control for a moment and we get an insight into Jigen (the character's) actual personality? He could either drop his staff and ask Sasuke to kill him. Or he could be suffering from extreme stockholm syndrome and get pissed off they put away his god. This wouldn't really change the fight, but it would be a really cool moment.

I think one issue with Genjutsu is that they made the Sharingan too op against it originally it was stated that one way to get out of a Genjutsu was by seeing the imperfections and weaknesses in the Illusion and that the Sharingan made this could notice these more easily than normal eyes, however Kishimoto made it in the series that everyone except Itachi who used Genjutsu was useless against the Sharingan. In fact in the original Naruto run when Kurenei goes up against Itachi the reason she loses so badly is not just because of the Sharingan but also because of Itachi's skill at Genjutsu. I think it's in the datebooks but there was a female Senju during Hashirama's time who was stated to effectively use Genjutsu against the Uchiha due to her high skill at it. So I think Genjustsu became more or less useless due to Kishimoto making the Sharingan too OP against it.

Like had Kishi focused on the different powers and how they work together and on strategy then I doubt we’d have as many impactful moments with character development because their personalities would be tied into how they fight more than their struggles. Personally I love naruto because of moments like Gaaras inflection upon his death, but the fights are super cool still. Naruto is a diverse series that handles emotion and symbolism well. It’s power scaling and consistency is solid, but not great- it isn’t a perfect series, but has a lot of draw for a lot of different interest. The strength in Genjutsu isn't the big things, it's the little things, like the Danzo part you described. Like what itachi did to the anbu pursuing him in the anime and they killed each other. Of course it's practically worthless to extremely high tier like Otsutski or (some members of Kara) but for general use it's a great tool and I suspect that part of showing off the subtle benefits of these things will be creating more 'Danzo' scenarios where it changes the outcome of the fight through deception. Genjutsu might seem a bit simple now but think about it, even simple attacks can change the course of a fight - after all a simple shadow clone defeated isshiki.

Just leaving this here since I want more discussion on the topic, what's everyone's take on whether or not Genjutsu would work on Bleach characters? The main two arguments in Bleach's favor are 1. most Naruto characters wouldn't be able to see them (this is especially damning in the case of ocular genjutsu), and 2. Bleach characters (minus the humans) are souls, and Genjutsu hasn't been shown to work against souls. There's more, but I'm just wondering what everyone thinks.

In my opinion Itachi is one of the most Unique, Authentic and Influential characters from the series. The thing that people underestimate about Itachi fights/encounters, isn't just his power, (it's mainly writters or Kishimoto's fault for making Itachi seem or to look very powerful throughout the series) but how smart and intelligent he is during various situations, he never, ever underestimates his opponents because of his composure and his way of being, the level of thinking he's on honestly dwars most people in the series, with only people like Minato and Shikaku comparable with him. More precisly, Itachi isn't just any ordinary Shinobi also, he pretty much knows and he's also aware that all strong opponents have weaknesses (including himself), and he specializes in finding those "weaknesses" and exploiting them ("*Even the strongest of opponents always has a weakness*" - Uchiha Itachi) because he's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. Itachi is very unique and authentic, especially in the factor of facing various encounters approach, his unpredictability in his way of fighting style approach it's his key factor in all of his encounters. Being blind or nearly blind has never slowed him down (especially when he's pretty much serious, but that's the point, he has never go all out against anyone during the series.) Itachi it's that type of character who can exceed almost any expectations. (at least that's what we were shown in the anime by the creator Masashi Kishimoto). Moral of the story, never underestimate Itachi. He did more sick then most healthy ninjas do in their entire life. In my opinion No One should underestimate such an unpredictable Shinobi like Itachi, even Madara (I won't say that Itachi can beat him, but at least he will be pretty much able to put a decent fight that Madara will also be impressed in my opinion). Also how can some of you guys even consider that Totsuka Blade it's slow when no such speed feat has been shown through the Shippuden that state it that it is slow? All of you are assuming it to be slow it may not be the case... Its not that the sword is unavoidable but it clearly has a very long range and is a very long blade. If you look at the manga, Naruto, Bee and Itachi are all relatively small from Nagato's point of view, and you can see the Totsuka Blade extending all the way from Itachi, piercing through Nagato, and still managing to nearly pop out toward the reader out of the page. I would say its fast because Kabuto coudldn't even react to it, and its not like Nagato was completely immobile to the point that he couldn't sidestep the blade. Also, Kabuto controlling people from far away is never stated to inhibit the Edos' reaction speed in any way. Being controlled by someone thousands of miles away didn't stop the Third Raikage from dodging KCM Naruto's Rasenshuriken. And as for Orochimaru, the sword struck him in between syllables of a word during his speech. I think that that is pretty fast. Pair the Totuska Blade with a good feint and its lethal because its ethereal, meaning it can pierce through any object. If the sword didn't live up to its reputation then Orochimaru wouldn't seek it out. People need to stop downplaying Itachi and denying the very clear speed feats of Totsuka. There is no room for interpretations here. The advantage of being an Uchiha, especially for Itachi and Madara, is that during an encounter against them, they always have a counter because of their unpredictable way of fighting factor, they don't run out of options or techniques, they almost always have a counter in their arsenal, even forbidden jutsus seems irrellevant against them, only a few Uchihas know a certain way to approach the situation with a certain and effective technique, that's why is hard/difficult to fight against them in my opinion. ☯️ 🤷♂️ Here are the things that make Itachi so formidable. Tsukuyomi - A genjutsu so powerful that you literally can't escape it unless you have the same blood as Itachi, as stated by Itachi himself and proven later by Sasuke, or you're a jinchuriki. Jinchuriki are supposed to be immune to genjutsu but it hasn't been proven, but when Bee was fighting Edo Nagato and Itachi with Naruto, he said to watch out for Tsukuyomi explicitly. Literally 99% of all opponents fighting Itachi have no way of stopping Tsukuyomi. You could have the power to split the planet in half and it wouldn't matter. (Want to know why? - Kakashi pretty much state it in the actual anime and manga that Tsukuyomi it's such a dangerous Genjutsu Technique because it happen in a instant, even if you realize that you are trapped in the Tsukuyomi, it will be too late, because Itachi could approach you during that time in the real world (or he can use an Explosive Clone to approach you without you even realizing it in time and he can pretty much finish you before you can even realize, - 72 hours in Tsukuyomi realm means 1 second or a couple of seconds in the real world. Tsukuyomi can't be broken, when used to it's fullest.) The Sword of Totsuka and Yata Mirror - The Susanoo itself is a near invincible defense but these two weapons take it to the next step. The Sword of Totsuka can seal "anything" if it even touches it. It's completely OP. It's hard to fight a guy that can seal you away if his sword even touches you. The Yata Mirror is even a bigger deal in my opinion. It doesn't block attacks, it's "negates" them. You could throw an Amaterasu covered Bijuu bomb at Itachi and the Yata mirror will negate it, making it so the Susanoo doesn't even need to take a blow. You could punch the Yata mirror and the force will completely be negated. His biggest strength of all: tactical intelligence - Itachi always outsmarts and plans for everything because the plot demands it. You're physically strong? Itachi is already 2 steps ahead of you knowing exactly what to do. You're extremely fast? Again, 2 steps. You're going to try and outlast Itachi in a fight? Good luck. To add to this, some of the 3 most powerful techniques in the verse are due to his intelligence and planning ability; Izanami, Izanagi, and Kotoamatsukami. Izanami - A forbbiden genjutsu technique that allows you to alter someone's destiny. Impossible to break out of even if you know you're in a genjutsu without complying with the users set destiny for you. Even someone like Bee, a perfect Jinchuriki, can't escape Izanami unless he does what Itachi wants him to. Izanagi - You somehow gained an advantage over Itachi? He makes it so that advantage never happened. Kotoamatsukami - Though Shisui's technique, Itachi has his eye which effectively makes it his weapon. A genjutsu so powerful that the person it's cast on doesn't even know they're under a genjutsu. Like the Tsukuyomi, completely OP. To add to all of this, Itachi is pretty good at hand to hand combat(his Taijutsu it's exceptional and underrated) is great with shuriken, is extremely fast, is great with regular fire techniques, is slippery and unpredictable, and has the extremely dangerous and fast Genjutsu style of fighting approach that can caught you off guard almost at any time. With all of these things considered you've got one dangerous ninja. Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu (who was around since the period of Kaguya time era until the present of Naruto) he state it in the anime and also in the manga that these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. This is why Kishimoto basically had to give him a handicap: Naruto AIDS. 🤷🏻♂️ ☯️

i'm sure this is an unpopular opinion but since it's a discussion i may as well discuss my viewpoint. i'm sorry for the long comment, but you are not indebted to read it if you do not want to: to be honest, i don't like the Chakra power system. it's vague, has no real rules, and the characters come up with new and break old rules on a whim. in early part 1, it takes a ton of charge time (many handsigns) to summon a water dragon. later, characters destroy mountains with one handsign. it got to the point where naruto has so much chakra that he can cut the moon in half which just feels silly. people complain about Boruto with 'i thought this anime was about ninja' but claim their love of shippuden when laser beams destroy mountains and the moon itself. i'm not a fan of this escalation. that's Ninjutsu, so since the video is about Genjutsu, i will mention it. i enjoy the clever strategy aspect of genjutsu, like when Kakashi showed Sakura a dying, bleeding out Sasuke, and Sasuke tricks Danzo into thinking he has less or more (i forgot which) "ammo" for his reality warping power. this is clever and very 'shinobi'. so what is Genjutsu by the end of Shippuden? hell, i don't even have to go that far. by the end of Naruto part 1, we see Itachi's endless torture Genjutsu, a 1HKO technique really, it's a cool power idea, but it's so.. strong. i don't like how strong it is. that's just my feelings. another example is some fights just kinda having entire segments that didn't really happen, and were just Genjutsu, which can be cool once or twice, but i feel like it happened multiple times for me to get sick of it. since Shippuden is so long, i have not watched or read it in a while, so excuse me for not having any examples of this other than Sasuke vs Itachi. so, what do i think Naruto should have, if i don't like Chakra you may ask? well, to be honest, i know it's very non-shinobi, but lets be real, the series hasn't been about shinobi since around midway through part 1, but 'scientific ninja tool humans', for simplicity, lets call them Cyborgs. some examples of Cyborgs are Ao, Delta, Boro, Garo, Kawaki, Code, Aida and Diamon. i think their powers are very interesting and unique, and allow for very interesting and cool powers, that are explainable through science thanks to Boruto's sci-fi setting. it's very unshinobi, but i think we're way past that point. i love all these characters' powers, even if i didn't like Ao and his storyline in Boruto. hell, Garo was a rando minor antagonist to show Kawaki for the first time, yet his design and powers are awesome. it's really simple, but his fighting style really complimented Kawaki's, and i'll always remember his otherwise forgettable character thanks to it. though, if you want something more shinobi, i really loved Nature Energy. it's a gigantic shame that it basically stopped getting used after Pain arc, outside of fueling Madara for doing his bullshit which i did not enjoy. but yeah, i love Nature Energy, it's a great power system and it's a shame Kishimoto basically abandoned it in the same arc it was introduced.
