I went to 2 different agencies at one point, and even though I'm a guy who's 5ft11, and I was considered borderline and even a bit too short. They expect guys to be 6ft minimum. Same goes for girls... Who should be minimum 5ft8 apparently. I’m team Anfisa. She was raised to become a trophy wife and to use her beauty to secure a rich husband and a better life. Marrying for love is not what she expected. She expected her marriage to be a compromise where she gets money and had very little right to expect anything else from her partner. Jorge lied to her about being rich, literally her only requirement. And, she really did try to be a supportive partner toward the end and did seem to genuinely care about this man. She did act crazy on the show, but most of that is probably just TLC doing their thing and the rest is just the understandable frustration of a very young woman who left her country for a lie. I’m sure if she had any support from family or friends nearby, she would have behaved differently but feeling completely helpless, alone, and duped aren’t a good combination for anyone. I respect Anfisa for being honest about her expectations and don’t feel bad for Jorge because he knew he couldn’t meet her expectations or keep his promises. The way she lives her life now is probably a much better representation of her character. The last I heard she was going to school and entering bodybuilding competitions while living on her own. She seems like a hard worker with a lot of drive and dedication, which is absolutely contrary to the way TLC portrays her. I always give a lot of grace to the people who leave everything and everyone they know behind and move to another country, especially when they arrive to find their partner wasn’t completely honest.

I can NOT imagine spending so much on a wedding dress. My husband and I got married in the courthouse. My dress I got for around $25 at h&m. The only other costs was the wedding certificate and the drinks at a bar with friends afterwards. Which our friends bought all the drinks. 😂 we are proud to be cheap. My ring was cheap af too. Saved that money for a wonderful vacation and a down payment on a house. Happily married 14yrs now.

Jorge and Anfisa was the first couple I watched and whilst they were both bad people of their own right, I'm team Anfisa. She knew what their relationship was going to be yet Jorge acts like a victim when she holds him to their agreement. She's the hot trophy wife and he the rich provider. Also not only did he lie, he brought her to a foreign country where she had no one to rely on and everyone seemed to hate her.

This reminds me of two Marilyn Monroe's movies. "Let's make love", where a billionaire buys expensive presents for his girlfriends and says that it would be horrible of him to expect those young beautiful ladies to love him for him when he loves them for their youth and beauty. And also, Marilyn Monroe's speech at the end of "Gentlemen prefer blondes". Though, in the movie, Lorelai really loves Gus Esmond. She marries him because he can afford to take care of her but wouldn't if she didn't love him. Here I think it is different. I think it is a guy who is manipulative and delusional, and a girl who is viewing marriage as something really practical (as it was before, a partnership between man and a woman to form a family and household). She wants someone with a good personality who can afford a living for her and maybe her family, plus she really has an appetite for everything shiny (as he does since the shiny is all he sees in her. They are similar on this). He is expecting real feelings and tenderness from her when all he offers and she is looking for is financial stability. I think if he expects more he should communicate that and stop trying to guilt and manipulate the person into wanting shiny stuff and not giving what he pretending not to want. It's nice, for once, to see someone taking the guy accountable of trying to buy a girl from less fortunate circumstances instead of blaming the gold digging. gold is important for survival, security, family... I understand why a person would see marriage as a practical arrangement, a pairing of two people who, together, can take care of kids. I'd dream of being in love with a partner and grow old together, but as a single mother of two, I think I wouldn't be against marrying someone who is financially stable, has a personality I enjoy, and with whom I vow to be a good partner and family, and be a team until the end of our lives. Even if we are not in love, though there must be respect, bond and high appreciation. To me, this kind of relationship when you decide together to be a team forever, is superior to love and passion. If there is romantic love on top of it that's great, but finding love is a very lucky thing. I am a big romantic at heart, but in that world, I think I should have prioritize financial stability over love because I was not the kind of people who can afford to think "money isn't important" or "money isn't everything". I'm 35 years old, and I find myself a little bit ashamed of the opportunities I threw away and for letting my heart and passion lead me, when I see a 20 something years old lead with her brains. I'l not envying her though, I think she looks very boring and unfriendly, and my mistakes in life gave me many things to be grateful for along the precarious journey. Just... seeing that, it makes me think "what if", you know... I guess I envy not being naive.

I don’t like how everyone acts like Anfisa is the bad one. He lied to her and manipulated her into a relationship, by dangling money and luxury goods. Why is it bad if a woman wants a man for money? She is attractive and can get someone far more attractive than Jorge. Men like this are the worst. They feel so entitled to have women who they only value for looks, they lie and manipulate to get them, then they get mad when the woman wants what was offered. Colt did the same thing. Jorge only likes Anfisa for looks, so why would it be bad if she liked Jorge for money? Why would she like him otherwise? Why are women always titled as something negative? Women who want money are gold diggers. Older women who date younger men are cougars. Single women are crazy cat ladies or…what was the old term? Old maid? There was another. Starts with “S” i think. But there are no equivalent terms for men. Its okay if men devalue women and treat them like objects, but bad if women want money. Men can date younger women without criticism. Single older men are not titled negatively either. No matter what women do, they are somehow bad for not just dating waaaay down for men who don’t have looks, money, or personality. If women are single when older they’re bad for not settling for loser guys when they were young. And online now women supposedly expire at 23. Anfisa did seem to care about Jorge, but the culture difference also could have been why she seemed cold and reserved. She was also only 20 going to another country and meeting a strange man who lied to her about basically everything. Men need to stop treating women like objects, and stop shaming women for everything.
