@@dsv-banshee52 no in this particular case it just means she's manipulating shuffles and fixing the deck. Like a cheating gambler might do. That's my guess though. However it's 100% not luck based and you can tell when she makes the moves. It's the kind of trick that gets passed around in kids school because it's so easy to do. I think Penn is being overly generous when he says she's doing advanced card tricks here

For the record the "Gambling" is counting cards she practiced how to grab them at a certain way with certain number she practiced the weight and feel of the cards, they smiled because because when you pay attention before the smile she missed her mark and got confused and couldn't count out the last ones in a non obvious way unfortunately. Although even if didn't work she tried hard to mislead them with her making a comment about counting.

If you're ever in a situation where you need to give constructive criticism to an aspiring artist (and magicians are artists), this is how you do it. They praised all the aspects of her work that they could legitimately praise, and then they revealed, 'You didn't fool us though,' which is equivalent to saying: 'It still needs work.' You don't benefit an aspiring artist (whether writer, musician whatever) by lying to them and telling them their work is better than it actually is. But you also don't benefit them at all by beating them down with negativity. Praise them where they have earned it. Gently point out their shortcomings. And you see how he did it- by referring to when Penn and Teller themselves began doing magic tricks when they were kids. In other words, relating to her and putting themselves in her shoes, and she in theirs. This lets her know that they themselves have trod the path she is on and that anything they say afterwards is said from an informed position, but not a superior one, and that she too can move forward and arrive at where they are currenlty.

The delivery was brilliant. the this is how others fool you track is brilliant. it is a great way to make the trick take about 3 minutes, without telling a long, boring, uninteresting story like most other magicians on this show do to pad the time. she counts the cards left in the deck after pen inserts the cards. one of the best "count down to the card" performances I have seen, but she made count just barely too long. as a result, she cuts the deck to get the card on top, and knows how many he took out of the deck and put on top. if she could train herself to count a little faster (or know the nunber of cards left just by feel), and if she shuffles/cuts the deck in a smoother more convincing manner, she will have perfected this performance. those are things that will come with experience and practice. right now, she is a 12 years old doing this trick better, and with a better performance, than many adults performing this trick.

So it was revealed at the end. When he says gambles use it, he means marked cards. You can clearly see her look closely at the cards when she cuts the deck for Penn, by looking at 2 cards she cut to she can determine how many cards teller took. This is obvious because the deck was not shuffled, meaning she knows the order. Ok so now we know they are marked cards and we know she worked out how many cards teller had. Now the next part is to place that many cards on top of penns card. So when he puts his card into the deck she puts 9 cards on top of it followed by the crimp card which she gets from the bottom of the deck, penn noticed her taking the bottom card and this is when he smiled So now we have penns card, followed by 9 random cards followed by a crimp. When teller puts any number on top she has no clue if he will do 2/8, 3/7 and so on. This means there is 100% camera editing. When teller puts his cards on top she had to of cut the deck again right to the crimp which would ensure on top of the deck is 9 cards followed by penns card. This is the only possible way to 100% guarantee/ cover all of the outs. Taking a risk and hoping he puts 4/5 on top would not be worth messing through whole trick up if he ends up putting 2 on top and she has no way to count to 10 Camera editing making the trick seem impossible

The question I would ask is how counting would matter. She counts out cards in groups when Penn tells her to stop. That's fine. I wondered about it. But then she cut it multiple times. Okay, maybe she's got that figured out by feel. But then Teller had a random number of cards in his hands and those went in, some on top, some on bottom, but no specified number. When she asked him what number he was thinking of, he may or may not have said the number of cards he took, but even if he had, there's on she could know how many he put on top or bottom. So this is a very good trick.

This is a trick that magicians like and audiences don't (so much) because audiences have seen so many variations on finding the card and it's "just" a card trick. I think Penn smiles because she is obviously counting the cards that she is putting down, but that doesn't mean that the trick depends on that: P&T:FU often depends on the magician giving false tells. She looks like she's never handled a deck of cards in her life, but she obviously has great sleight of hand skills from the intro video. I don't know how she does it and I just have to assume that it's cleverer than it looks to the layman.

For those curious the code word was “crimp” which means she put a bend in the card so she could find it in the deck. I still have no idea how or when she did it or how she did the trick but that was the “trick”.
@iSustainnn
@iSustainnn 3 жыл бұрын
She's counting cards, I suppose.
@DL-kc8fc
@DL-kc8fc 3 жыл бұрын
@@iSustainnn There was a good job of rhetoric. Teller was given the task to count his withdrawn cards and he had to memorize this number (he counted 10 cards). Penn returned the card anywhere, which was then covered with a crimped card (as the girl was making a crimped card, Penn smiled and looked at Teller). There was a simple cut from the girl's hands so that Penn's card was on top and crimped at the bottom. Teller arbitrarily divided his 10 cards into the top and bottom of the deck. Subsequently, the TV editor switched the camera to the audience. At this time, the girl made another "innocent" cut, which sent all the bottom cards (-1) below the crimped card to the top of the deck. There are many procedures, but it has not been shown to television viewers. The camera "returned" to the scene again and Teller was asked for the number. But that number was the number of cards Teller had to remember, not any imaginary number. :) Logically, then, it must be Penn's tenth card. The original whole trick was child's and maybe not even competitive. Therefore, the trophy was not awarded. However, the producers have decided that by editing the camera at an important moment, they will make the situation unsolvable, ie supernatural and attractive for TV viewers :)
@eldante4139
@eldante4139 3 жыл бұрын
Why do they often do camera cutaways during which the magician will do something? That means we don’t get to see the full trick and yet we are led to believe that we have. She is very talented, she has a great future ahead of her. I would have used the ‘for her age’ but that seems patronising to say that, if she wasn’t a good magician then there’s no way that she would have appeared on the show.
@DL-kc8fc
@DL-kc8fc 3 жыл бұрын
@@eldante4139 You may not have noticed that her uncle Adam Chyera has already performed at Fool Us. The girl practiced tricks with him for two months, so the girl has no children's magic career. It is not necessary to idealize the world and make sure that participation in the competition is conditioned only by excellent skills. Attractive appearance and communicativeness can be an advantage. In addition, if Uncle intercedes ... :) So the wind blows from here. The girl showed playfulness of the child, but was not good. As for the TV cuts, I'm afraid it hurt the girl because she can no longer replicate the trick in her school in front of her friends. The children are cruel and will remind her of the television scam.

@@eldante4139 I have read from a Fooler that the only person who knows the trick is, in fact, the TV producer (who has also contact to Penn and Teller, so he can know if they discovered the trick). As this person knows the solution, he plans the cameras and what he can show or not. That's all. If you are more interested, you will want to know that magicians test their tricks on the stage in front of this only guy.

@@borisgulliver4970 She kept cutting the deck in lots of three, then added one in which gave her an even after the stop from there she counted from where she had folded a slight edge (curled) the corner of a card. When she counted out the "10" she was also shuffling them with her fingers. It appears as though she is taking the top card but she is cutting the deck again.

Great job! It was one of the few times I actually understood the 'code', it obviously had to do something with crimping a card. But, even knowing that, I still can't figure it out! When did she crimp the card? Couldn't see it. She dumps cards on top of Penn's card before ever touching the deck. Cuts the cards a few times. And then, she doesn't know that Teller had 10 cards, or how many he would put on the top or bottom. And then somehow it's the 10th card. So, this is exactly the point. Even if you happen to know some details of how a trick works, and I have learned details about quite a few different tricks over the years. EVEN IF, it still doesn't take away from the 'magic', and it doesn't mean you can do it yourself. Everyone knows it's a trick. That's not the 'magic'. The magic comes from hard work and dedication. It still takes a true artist to pull it off. It still takes constant practice to make it flawless. Knowing how it works doesn't make you a 'magician'. It's the performance of the trick. And, she was pretty flawless in her execution. That takes work! Great job! Keep it up! In time she will be an amazing magician!
