I spent the first half of the day trying to figure out how I would fix this non running gc160 I have. I knew NOTHING about carburetors going into it, watched these two videos, went out and purchased some carb cleaner, and an hour later I had it running again. Best how-to video ever! Thanks man! Great video! I had cleaned ( or attempted to ) the carb a few days ago.. it would not idle without 3/4 choke. I cleaned the main jet but didn't know about the venturi.. it was very stuck up in there. I had to push it down from the throat and then tighten the Main jet several times while applying carb cleaner.. it finally came out.. also the bent spray tube thing.. I just put it back together and it runs like new! Thank you so VERY much!!!

Used the 2 videos to fix my GC 190 Honda carb on my roto tiller. I could not get the Venturi tube out but, must have got enough carb cleaner through it anyway. Runs great now! Thanks for posting these and so many other videos. They are a great help and now I'm a thankful subscriber.

THANK YOU. GREAT VIDEOS. Watched them several times before taking apart the carb on a Honda GC190 pressure washer. It was cranking fine, running a while, maybe a minute or so, and shutting off. Did this six months ago too, and afterwards it stuttered four or five times, then ran fine until now. This time I also sprayed cleaner into the three ports on the fuel pump. I plan to also strain the gas in the fuel tank, and when adding gas in the future, to prevent this problem from happening again. Incidentally, I only use premium non-ethanol gas with Seafoam added. This after having ethanol completely encase/ruin the fuel pump on a Mercury outboard motor.

Thank you for making this video. I couldn't get my Honda pressure washer to start for 2 years. I followed your video and now it runs perfectly. I had one heck of a time getting the emulsion tube out though. That took me the longest. Everything in my carb was gummed up with ethanol residue. Anyway, thanks again and God Bless.

Thanks. I might try again just because I hate something like this defeating me. :-) It's a really hard job to reassemble the carburetor to the motor. You almost need 4 hands to hold all of the gaskets, heat shield, spacers, and choke rod in place. If I don't have any luck this time, I will just buy a new carb. Thanks again.

FINALLY!!! Success!! The second cleaning did the trick. It still wouldn't run steady at first but after a few minutes of playing with the :"throttle stop screw" and "Pilot screw" it steadied out and ran like new. Hoping it runs strong after it cools down again. I have a handy cleaner tube mod for you...Heat a tube about 1'2" from one end and STRETCH the tube to a smaller diameter. Then snip it off to make a pin point spray tip. It's great for fitting inside the pressed in jet with no blow back.

Thanks Sixtyfive,. My pressure washer is about 10-12 years old with probably less than 75 hours on it. The engine seems sound and reliable with good power. I found out there were no replacement parts for the pump itself.. Hearing all the horror stories about people buying these light duty washers for around the house and not lasting very long I decided to order a replacement pump from APW distributing. While I was at I decided to see if I could do something about the engine serge.. You know the serge that requires you to set the choke about half way out just to get it to run, I've never really messed with small engine repair, but after watching the two videos several times, got out there and jumped on it. Now when you crank it up the choke works as it should and there is no serge. I will install my pump tonight and see how it goes. THANKS again !!!!

Brett Weeks You're welcome. Yeah the motor will last upwards of 1000+ hours but sadly the pumps tend to only last 25hrs-100hrs and sometimes less. So 75hrs is pretty good. It's sad they make them throwaway and some are impossible to find parts for. I have rebuild a few pumps that I could find parts for and they work great.

It drains the gas out of the bowl for storage. A dry carb bowl wont gum up and you will virtually never need to clean the carb again.

This was quite useful and informative. After watching it through one time, I went ahead and did it!!! I had had the carb partially off once before, but this time I took it all the way down. Must have done something right because we ran it just afterwards for over four hours. It seemed to take a little time to settle down, and really run right, without the choke at least partly on, but after a half hour or so, it was down to business. I think a new spark plug wouldn't hurt. Thank you for this informative video!

For the specialty hoses you can buy them directly from Honda. The fuel line can be purchased from any auto store. If you just have a split or hole you can use RTV gasket maker to seal them up permanently.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have tried tons of brands but the only ones I like are made by Costco. They are Kirkland Brand Nitril Exam gloves. Carb claener will still swell them but no where as bad as others. They hold up very well and you aren't changing out ripped gloves all the time.

@salazar78 .... Oil: it will hold about a quart. It is very hard to do an extreme overfill of the oil to ruin it as it will flow out the fill tube before you can do it. ONLY running on choke is a sure sign of a clogged main jet in the carb. You definitely need to clean the carb.

Very helpfull ! Thanks. You are a creative guy. I like your extra tricks like bending the carb cleaner straw to get those hard to get at places. Also pointing out the fact that where there is a bb there is usually a fuel port opposite. Once you figure that out; It's a simple observation but none of the 100's of carb videos that I've seen before pointed that out.

Yes you need the 1/4 spacer. Without is the linkage wont line up right neither will the aircleaner. There is also a theory behind a longer intake manifold and that is you get more low end power.

An engine with your symptoms says the main jet system is clogged. This system starts with an air passage in the throat (on the sides) and allows air to pass to the venturi and mix the gas and air. Gas is pulled from the bowl through the main jet and into the venturi tube. Here th hey are sucked up into the throat of the carb. Choke bypasses the main circuit air passage and the engine pulls straight gas out of the bowl.

The GC160 does not have an oil alert. They do sell the carbs and usually you can pick a new one up for $30 on Ebay. Is it running good for the 30-60 seconds? If it is running this long I'm inclined to think you are having fuel delivery problems as well. This could be as simple as a vent in the gas cap or a sticking float in the carb. Either way it shouldn't require starting fluid to start so the carb does need some TLC.

Hi, Really GREAT video on cleaning the carb! I followed your instructions "to the letter" but the engine still won't run un-choked. The main jet WAS blocked when I dissembled the carb, All the passageways, venturi tube, and ports are passing cleaner as your video shows. I even followed it in a step by step process just to make sure I didn't miss anything. Is there ANYTHING else that could cause this behavior? ANY insights would be appreciated. Thanks, Rod

Maybe spark plug? thanks man! Maybe i need go back and do it again? only if u think that it sputters due to the gaskets being torn.

I love the video and have an IDENTICAL engine. Before I attempt to disassemble the entire carb, let me ask you a couple of questions. Mine is on a pressure washer and I can start the engine with starting fluid and it will run 30-60 seconds and quit. Is there an Oil Alert on this model? I was thinking that I might change the oil and add PRECISELY what it called for IF it has an Oil Alert system. If not I guess I will have to disassemble the card for cleaning. Can you buy a complete carb?

I have a GS190. I've had the carb off twice, this video showed me how I could go further into the carb. However, my symptom on this particular engine is that is starts, runs for 30-45 seconds, then sputter coughs, then will sometimes make it through, but more often die. Wait a minute and it starts right up. I've cleaned the main jet and venturi tube, and there seems to be no initial visible sign of clog. Any ideas?
