It doesn't, actually. Valhalla is not nordic heaven.
@randonolso4 жыл бұрын
ClericofLurue here’s the definition of Valhalla brought to you by google: the great hall in Norse mythology where heroes slain in battle are received. 2 : a place of honor, glory, or happiness - so, as you can imagine, I’m confused by your comment.
@belad0nna4 жыл бұрын
@@randonolso none of that negates what I said. Neither Valhalla nor Folkvangr are what most of the pre-christian norse thought of as their ultimate destination. Valhalla (and likely Folkvangr as well) ARE places of honour, glory and happiness - for warriors. The ONLY way to get into Valhalla and Folkvangr are to die in battle (everything is very clear on that stipulation) and then be chosen by Odin or Freyja, respectively. You could die in battle and still be passed over by both. Not every nordic person was a warrior with a longing of a glorious death in battle. Most would have moved on to some aspect of Hel/Helheim.
@randonolso4 жыл бұрын
ClericofLurue thank you for further explaining! I appreciate the knowledge
@belad0nna4 жыл бұрын
@@randonolso you're welcome. The beliefs and stories are quite good but you have to go deeper than the "hail Odin!" and "Valhalla awaits!" to find the truth. Think of Valhalla as boot camp, where warriors go to feast, fight die and repeat over and over until Ragnarok. I imagine most of the "Valhalla awaits!" crowd isn't even aware of Folkvangr, nevermind that outside of dying in literal battle or possibly being a particularly devoted follower of Odin (I'm not quite sure as I'm not a follower of the Allfather myself) they'll never step foot in that hall. Nor would I imagine they'd want to if they ever knew the truth of it.
