English Lyrics: "Northern lights" There were northward, on the seashore, they by salty rocks covered in rime. There were northward, on the seashore, they a light was born in the dark. In that land, where I know it lies, there was an island nearby. In that land, where I know it lies, the rime giants carry out destiny. What comes from afar keeps me awake, every morning, I greet the light of Baldr. What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky from Earth? Rainbow, Bifröst, Aurora, I greet the Northern lights, Baldr’s lights. You should have seen them, do you call them “rainbow”? They have three colours, they’re called “northern lights”. The bridge between heaven and Earth, they’re those they once owned, above the sea blue as flames, they’re called “northern lights”. What comes from afar keeps me awake, every morning, I greet the light of Baldr. What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky from Earth? What comes from afar keeps me awake, every morning, I greet the light of Baldr. What comes from afar keeps me awake, every morning, I greet the light of Baldr. What’s the path to the sky What’s the path to the sky from Earth?

When you can literally feel the music inside your body, your blood, your bones... when you can feel what story the song is trying to portray without knowing a single word ... that is something you don’t come across very often. It’s also something that the majority of people who criticize aren’t able to do, which makes me feel/think that it’s sort of a special quality folks like us that do connect with the music have and we are the very lucky few that possess this quality. Which is fine by me. I’d much rather listen to this than any of the mainstream music of today

@damianclarijs17452 жыл бұрын
Icelandic language is created by vikings
@hebxp2 жыл бұрын
The language sung here are Old West Norse, specifically (from what I can gather from vowel usage) Old Icelandic. That's what we usually use as the basis for "Old Norse" anyhow, as that dialect was specifically the most well preserved. Modern Icelandic, Faroese and Norwegian are all descendants of Old West Norse, while Swedish and Danish are from Old East Norse. All of the modern Scandinavian languages have changed drastically since Old Norse, including modern Icelandic (contrary to popular belief). The specific indicator I found to back up that this is Old Icelandic specifically, is in the word they have written as "örlög". The specific history of /ö/ is a combination of two archaic vowels used in Old Icelandic, pre-13th century, /ø/ and /ǫ/. These two vowels went on to be used in the same regard as just /ö/, and before this point, the word "örlög" would have been spelled "ørlǫg", thus showing that this is indeed, Old Icelandic.

Over the last few years I've been getting into folk music. Originally I started by listening to Celtic folk metal and I enjoyed it more than I expected to and certainly didn't expect it to lead me here but I'm glad that it did. It stirs something within that I honestly didn't know was there. A type of ancient spirituality awakens. There's something specific about this song that causes a calm and a sense of everything being okay. Absolutely beautiful and very powerful.

I'm an African American and music like this speak louder to me than English and I can always understand without English It just speaks loud and so harmonic. Skald music is beautiful. I tend to listen to all kinds of music but I only like ones with meaning. Strong meanings. I don't know why but Skald is just an amazing band. Amazing group of people. I hope nothing I comment give ill will. I just wish to say how much I admire this music
