Just got home from fishing the flats in Gulfshored, had a great time. Did alot of sight casting for redfish and also bombing the spey rob in the surf and inlets. Kinda got caught up in the moment and was putting way to much power in forward stroke. Had to take a step back and just slow everything down. That little change in power just makes things smoth like butter.

Thanks for putting out information on Skagit casting. Out there struggling, trying to learn the art of spey. On the Deschutes, infact, maybe we'll see you out there. Subscribed.

Thanks Tanner. If you ever see me out there, be sure to flag me down and I'd be happy to help out! Be sure to check out Skagit Casting for rank beginners and troubled casters. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2iaZYlml9GDrLs pay particular attention at the 5:12 mark on that video and try that D loop Drill I'm doing there. Play with that while gradually increasing the size of your D loop and length of cast. That mike be all it takes to get you back on track when struggling as we all do at times. 541-688-0505 give me a call or text and maybe we can make it happen. Thanks for subscribing!

@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins This is the information I needed. Soaking, and what a proper D loop should look like. I also found your line management and line stretching videos helpful. All these things were sabotaging my casts. I will practice them again this weekend, likely on the lower Deschutes, near Maupin. Thanks a bunch.

Absolutely a huge step in to the form of : how to improve your learning curve on this clip guys. You know Tim I’m always impressed with the way you cast, and not really 💯 convince with the way you were sharing few points of view about the technique over other clips to reach to the green horns. But this is the one Tim!! I’m really convinced this clip is going to improve the casting of anyone who want to listen carefully and watching it more than once. That comparison with other caster grip and stroke is priceless and when following by your comments is just makes it close to perfection (it needs other camera view👌) Congrats on the new way of sharing how to Spey cast without mention any of the casting principles. Truly amazing clip Tim, thank you for the time 👌👌👌 Happy holidays to all Mag

I typically practice using a fly with the hook cut at the bend, and if you see the results of my troubled casting it is apparent why. Yeah, I so much want to learn to use the bottom hand over the constant reliance on the upper hand. I've though of binding my right arm but I haven't figured out how to bind it and not have use of it in the pickup, anchor set, etc. And I live so close to the river and yet find it near impossible to get out and practice. Priorities seem to get in the way somehow.

Thanks Steven. I have thought of duct taping my arm to my side. Perhaps fodder for a new video??? Maybe a bungie cord or a belt? I"ll kick around and see what I come up with. Thanks for the idea buddy! I appreciate every comment you make and your efforts to help me grow this channel. Thanks man! Your the best!!!!

great video. what i was told when i was learning is "if you're working to cast, you're doing it wrong. when you do it right, it should be so easy, that it feels like cheating"

Less fatigue sounds good, but getting that bottom hand into the mix is SO problematic when you've spent your life casting with the upper arm when casting a conventional fly rod. Hopefully I will get out on the water before the new year and practice what you've shown me over the past couple years. Hope your Thanksgiving was as complete with good food and family as mine, Mr. Jedi.

Yes! Thanksgiving was awesome, several days away from the job site, hanging with family, eating (I only eat one meal a day when working, intermittent fasting to keep my girlish figure!) It was heaven and I had a chance to improve my fly tying by way of composite loop intruders!!!! More on the way. Thanks buddy!!!

I love it "If you really wanna get good, cut the hook off your fly stand in one place and PRACTICE for hours." I work at a fly shop and it drives me crazy when people go fishing, don't catch anything and then call it casting practice. U can cast way more times per hour if you're not fishing. Some people don't wanna put in the time to practice

Henrik Mortensen, in his book "Scandinavian Spey Cast", says exactly the same; if you have to practise, so, try to choose a water with no fishes because they will distract you from your practise..

A TIP ,I RECENTLY WAS AWARE OF. THE CLOSER YOUR HANDS ARE THE EASIER IT IS TO USE SMALL MOVMENTS. TRY HOLDING YOUR ROD 1 METER UP AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN. TRY GRIPPING WITH THE TOP HAND ON THE MIDDLE OF THE HANDLE. YOU WILL HAVE LESS POWER BUT THAT FORCES YOU TO CAST MORE CORRECTLY. (CAPS LOCK ON HERE ) :) Cheers from Norway.. this tip is for people in general,, not the JEDI :)

Dont need to tape your arm just tuck a book preferably your cheque book in under your arm then if you dont do it correctly you lose your cheque book in the river !!
