I agree. ProDesigned makes a great set of wristguards. When I made this video 6 years ago, I didn't know about them yet.

Depends on which model you got. ProTec makes some great helmets and they make some terrible ones. "B2" and the "Ace" are great. "The Classic" (NOT the "Classic Skate" which is different) and "X Spitfire" are good. All others are junk. There is no such thing as "California certified" but ASTM and CE should be adequate. I have an updated version of this video if you look at the 15:30 mark in "Learn To Ride A Skateboard (Chapter 2 of 7)" and that explains a little more about certifications.

gloves protect your hands and not your wrists. Wrist guards protect both your hands and wrists. Also there are other safty gear skateboarders wear like Shin pads usually used for soccer but very useful for skateboarding and jock to protect your groin from skateboard and rails.

@sohan1251 - Running shoes will work, but skate shoes are a lot better. Running shoes tend to have a lot of ridges on the bottom and that means less rubber is contacting the skateboard griptape. Skate shoes have much flatter, smoother bottoms, so the griptape holds better. If your parents won't buy you new shoes, just use the running shoes for now. They will still work. You can just get skate shoes later.

Good vid, but in my opinion gloves are NOT a substitute for well designed wrist guards
