Asha, this is a great video. There are several roller rinks in my city, and the other day there was a guy who was trying to jump and touch this decoration which was hanging from the ceiling. Of course he flailed and landed on his butt! He also was doing something that you touch upon in many of your videos: 'Skating as fast as he can with ZERO ability to stop!' Peace to you, Asha! ;)
@SkatefreshVideos6 жыл бұрын
Ahhhh you can spot them too! Stay very far away from them. They will plough into you as a stopping method and then apologise as you are on the ground. Learning to skate (and stop) proerly is not just for your safety but for all those people around you. Let's all just get our basics nailed so we dont kill ourselves or eachother (or our butts).

@SkatefreshVideos8 жыл бұрын
+PeckoBre Pros: faster, lighter, smoother over bumps and bad surfaces, holds speed longer, reaches higher max speeds, good technique is rewarded. Cons; faster (you must have your stopping methods honed properly obviously). That's it, I think they are great and Im sure they are the future of inline skating. In 5 years everyone will be on 3 wheels I predict....

I would wish for more of a breakdown on a jump itself - e.g. the fact that you have to jump with flat feet. That is really difficult for me and I keep falling on any landing.
@SkatefreshVideos3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. There is more about that in the Advanced online course by Asha here skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-advanced-level-full-course/ If you keep falling that's probably because you are placing more weight forwards or backwards when you land. Practice jumps on grass hundreds of times until you feel confident, do it on the same spot, not trying to cover a distance. Focus on the fact that your body needs to go vertical, not forwards, you go up and go down in a vertical motion.
@HeadNtheClouds6 жыл бұрын
Is it easier to jump on skates than without? I stink at jumping in general, but I see all these urban skaters effortlessly jumping & I wonder if the fast forward momentum makes it easier to get off the ground? I want to jump , but I’m afraid of falling because I am 50 & don’t want to get hurt (I am currently healing a shoulder injury, yeaaa) 😦
@MV-bf8mu6 жыл бұрын
Its harder, because you cant use your feet and ankles as much to generate power. You mostly rely on core strength, your arms, and knees. Inline skates have a flat skating surface and it makes jumping harder. Try standing on the ground, and jump without lifting your heels as preparation. Thats kinda the feel of it. If you look at figure skates used on ice, notica that they have curved blades which help to generate more power, which somewhat imitates the way you use your feet when you jump.
@ZakyEsta8 жыл бұрын
hey ya, im a newbie skater from indonesia and i wanna ask something does size of the wheels greatly affect our style of the jump? i mean, what is the best wheels to jump? small size or big size, im using 68mm (if im not forgot my wheels size)
@SkatefreshVideos8 жыл бұрын
The answer is "it depends what kind of jumps you re doing?".... In skate park with ramps? Flat to flat? Over obstacles? Bigger wheels are harder to land as the wheel is taller so more margin for error. Smaller wheels best for jumping yours seem super small, but fine up to 80mm. For more skate advice, sign up on www.skatefresh.com.
@ZakyEsta8 жыл бұрын
oops, sorry for the size, today i check the box and its written over there 84mm. i train to jump flat to flat on a road. i always do that wind of death :(
@SkatefreshVideos8 жыл бұрын
84mm is fine for jumping on the flat. But you really have to focus on your arms not going in a circle behind your back. Keep them in view infant of you.

I’ve been skating for 8 mos and is it normal that I’m still scared to attempt or learn to jump?
@SkatefreshVideos3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Yes, it's pretty normal. Some people need more time, that's it. Try to do it on grass but without rolling, practice 5 min. each time you go out, ideally at the beginning of your session because this may demand quite a bit of energy (depending on age). Practicing on grass will make you gain confidence. Once you feel comfortable enough you go to the tarmac and do the same but again without rolling. Finally one day when you are not scared anymore you try it rolling. That's how you should learn, progressively. And don't need to start with a jump, just a hop.

@vwrabbit4life6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I guess I should say stay low and torwards the toes. I still find myself going on the heels when I'm cruising in scissors. It's tough. Been doing lots of squats and lunges trying to build the muscles in my legs. My weight and stance builds with every session. It's a beautiful process.
