I come from a small town, I’ve been the ONLY skater here for like 8 years. I can ride down hills in a one legged nose manual but I still can’t do a single flip trick because I’ve always just skated for a fun way to get around without a car. Recently in the past 2 years I’ve seen younger skaters starting to pop up everywhere so I stopped them when they weren’t turning there front foot or whatever... this was all fun and games until what looked like a 6 year old skated past me and done a kick flip up the kirb, I’m now learning a new trick a day just to keep my status as best skater in town. This makes me think, if we had a skate park and other skaters here I would have had the inspiration to learn more tricks. I’ve been skating just over a decade so I’m mega comfortable on my board, I wish I’d started learning flip tricks earlier thou.

I love your videos dude. I turn 41 tomorrow & just started skating again for the first time in over 15 years. I took a 23 year break. I am going in with the muscle memory but I am about 8 inches taller and 80 pounds heavier with big feet. I'm grinding it out, I thrashed my ankle in a bowl last week and had to take time off but generally I just put on "Songs for the Jilted Generation" by The Prodigy and turn it up louder than my internal monologue.

When it comes to popping the board to pick it up I found it quite convenient learning to do it from the nose then catch it in the dominant hand. The reason I say this is because it can be done whilst you are still on the board and also the fastest way to go between riding to walking/ running without leaving the board (which is convenient if you skate high security areas that you shouldn't be in ;) )

The best thing that you can do as a beginner is RIDE YOUR BOARD AROUND EVERYWHERE 😊 The more time you spend riding around, the more comfortable you will be on your board. Then you will not have to think about what your board is doing and work as 'one' instead, freeing up your mind to concentrate only on the trick you are trying to learn. Trust me 👍😊......and I know that this may sound stupid but adjust your trucks as you learn to ride your board. You need to find the right compromise between stability for learning to ollie etc whilst being able to turn and carve easily. New bushings will loosen up as they break in and will need a little tweak here and there at first as they bed in. Once I've found this spot when setting up new trucks they never get touched between sets of boards and wheels. Just some basic advise to try and help out anyone new to skating. I started skating in '86/'87 😊 Happy skating all ☺❤ Oh, and don't get hung up on one trick, try a few basic tricks to start with. You may find that you struggle with kick flips perhaps.....but might find out you are the manual or shuvit king instead. Every skater has their strengths and weaknesses and it will all help you to have more board control to tackle more advanced tricks and helps keep things fresh 😊

A great tip I learned trying to drop in is put your leading hand on the front of the board as you drop in. This forces you to lean forward and I found this a lot easier than to just brave through it
