I skated a lot when I was young. Now 18 years later and 34 years old I’m just getting back into it. I’ve been going when no one else is there but there was a guy around 18 or so at the park and he saw me hesitant to drop in. Came over and was like, “you got this man, I get scared in that one too”. Freaking awesome.

I've broken bearings a few times in my 20 years of skating due to impact, but a rusted bearing is what caused my worse skate accident. I often clean them, but at that time I didn't check for that set of wheels I had on.

Here's a tip if you're scared of going somewhere because of other skaters: Just do what trick you want to do or practice, as long as you're not snaking everyone then you're fine. Man, I have a hard time not getting frustrated. Like, today i had the worst session I've had in a long time. I couldn't even pop my ollies correctly. I'd try to do them and end up doing this sort of half ollie where the tail never hits the ground but my front foot does lift up the board a little. Its infuriating cause I've been doing ollies solid for a year now but today i was really out of it. I ended up slamming my board against the floor a few times making and ass out of myself and ended up leaving early.

My bearings would mostly break on heavy impacts so its not really a surprise when i land heavy and see some bearing balls go flying. The benefit of having half crappy bearings is you can bomb massively steep hills ( like we have here in SF ) at a lower rate of speed. Otherwise clean bearings r good but def not a death sentence

When you do an Ollie, do you slide your foot forward or push it? I’m really confused if I’m doing it right or not. Like, how significant is the “pushing forward on the tip of your board”?
@LukeForThePeople2 жыл бұрын
Sliding mostly
@RobotronSage Жыл бұрын
Yeah you shouldn't trip too much on the lever action tbh. What works the best for me is to focus more on ''jumping sideways'' Try it. It helps with stability a lot. Tho i guess if you want higher ollies you're gonna need some more slide action going with the front foot placed more to the back / centre of the board. (that's not so much a guess as it is talking from experience lmao)
@RobotronSage Жыл бұрын
Basically jumping sideways with 1 foot = clean ollies tbh. Ofc you wanna get a good feel for the balance and momentum and all that

But I was a lot fitter a while back but had 3 fractures on my knoggin & 7 concussions now. Still won't wear a bloody helmet 😂. Anyway, I was carving off speed at the bottom of a hill that takes a sharp right and my bearing on the front right disintegrated, flipping me on my head......I was mangled bad & as I'm lazy , I tried jumping on my board again & ate shit again. I was tripping when I saw the bolt + back bearing still there but no wheel. I'm freaking making any hard turns now.... I got new bearings but I'm maxing out the weight limit I reckon.... got good reflexes and balance tho, strangers must hate it when i dont stack....even I'd think "Ha , this fat fuck is going down 4 sure" I'm like Paul Blart (+SizeNinjaStyle) But it can happen to you normal guys ....them solid core or moulded cores are meant to take some force out of turns.
