I think the pump carve is great for getting more comfortable on a skateboard. I converted my old Lance Mountain board into a surf skate with a Waterbourne surf adaptor. You can technically pump from standing still, and even up hill. I'm not there yet, but it is great exercise. Getting the rythm down is tough for an old guy like me.
@DunkelBrauer2 жыл бұрын
Same here. Converted my 10'' oldschool setup into a surfskate. So much fun. But also a good cardio workout for a 46yo like me. That means I do not last very long ;-) I also added the steepest angled risers i could find to my cruiser setup to get narrower turns with normal trucks. I will most likely never land a kickflip (trying it for two years now) but carving and surfskating is instant fun.
@robertborden26662 жыл бұрын
@@DunkelBrauer that’s great. I don’t think I considered the risers for getting a better carve because I use my board for all types of riding. I currently ride an 8.7” popsicle with 56mm clouds. But I just turned 45 and learned pump carve back in March. You’re right that it’s great cardio but also fun to just keep going while others have to step down and push. JB has one word that can’t be overemphasized and that is “immediately” shift your weight to the other side. If you picture a shark tail, and aim to have its rigidity you’ll make those immediate, if not premature weight changes and feel the board propel you forward. I challenge myself to ride the bike path and go from one side street to another with only 3 start pushes. I’ve gotten almost a whole mile at a clip. If I’m playing an ‘everything goes’ game of skate I’m using this!
@stevecolvin12342 жыл бұрын
I doubled up on the old 1/2" risers under the back truck so the board would be level.

Hey JB, love your videos, since you are not shy to make short videos and this is related to it: could you perhaps make an educational video on a decent setup for trucks/wheels/bushings that allows you to pump well, but doesnt give you wheelbite all the time? I am unsure whether or not I should change my indy stock bushings for 94A indy bushings when I´m riding 54mm 97A wheels for example. since Indys are already quite high, do you think riserpads would be too much? I sometimes hear that with a medium loseness truck your wheel size maximum should be around the same as your truck height, so 55mm for indys, 51-52 for thunders (without risers), is this credible? I mean not many people are talking about this and perhaps I should just find out for myself, but I would really like to hear the opinions of an expert with lots of experience for once.

Short and straight to the point! I switched to a cruiser a couple of weeks ago, and it's awesome when you just want to cruise around town without tricks. I'm trying to master pumping, and I'm generally doing well. But my only problem is the hills in the city.. When my trucks loose, I can pump well, but the trucks start shaking down the hill... Skate tool always with me or is there a better solution? Thank you for the videos, they helped a man who started skating again after 20 years 🤘🤘🤘 Regards from Serbia!
@SkateparkLessons Жыл бұрын
You have to find that sweet spot as you adjust your trucks so they’re loose enough to carve and tight enough to maintain control at higher speed. Over time your ankles will get stronger and you’ll bend down with more confidence to fight the speed wobbles, but sometimes you’ll still run off or slam. That’s what makes it fun 🛹🙌🏽😝🙌🏽🛹 thanks for your support 💙🇷🇸💙

Thanks JB. I’m hoping you could elaborate on your truck set up. Do you remove both top and bottom washers? Does this chew up your bushings faster? Do you ride stock bushings or switch to bones? Thanks!!
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
I ride stock ace bushings, I remove the larger washer on ace, sometimes both washers on other trucks if they don’t turn well. Bones mediums are awesome as well. Hope it helps! Thanks 💙🛹💙

@@SkateparkLessons Thanks JB! One more question: with regards to wheel bite, do you tighten your trucks enough so that it isn’t possible? Or do you just have your limit memorized so that you don’t turn so aggressively that you lock up your wheels? I find that whenever I loosen my trucks wheel bite becomes a real possibility, just wondering how you deal with it because you ride you trucks loose and i dont see risers. Thanks!

You pump like if you had "surfskate trucks" ... Amazing! I know this vid is old but, got a question for anyone does bushings afect the pumping/carving ? Should I go hard bushings beeing on the heavy side ? tnx!

For pump carves, You should ride as loose as you can and work to build ankle strength to compensate for bushings. 💙🛹💙
