Thank you so much for this video. I have been riding a carver around my neighborhood for years. I feel like I am pretty good at it. However, after watching this video and trying what you are saying here...... I now realize why my surfing has gone downhill the last few years. I have been riding my carver all wrong. All wrong! I have formed some real bad habits around generating speed and flowing. I have not been throwing my weight around and using my arms and springing my legs up and down. I spent 20 minutes today flowing around my garage using this technique. Huge difference in the feel of the board and much more smooth. I could imagine myself on the face of a wave. This video is really gold for me. I can't thank you enough.

stoked man! as you've now felt, it can make a HUGE difference, positive or negative. there's always room to just mess around on a skateboard, and I do frequently. but it's also an opportunity to build new patterns and movement habits.

Great job simplifying the best movement universally across all board sports. This is surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding. This movement of hips and shoulders, using up and down patterns works equally well in all these 3 sports. I see so many snowboarders doing the same thing wrong. Fighting their own bodies with every turn..

You do make it look so easy. Compressing and extending on a surf skate requires considerable balance and that takes several months of slow gentle practise.
@SurfStrengthCoach3 жыл бұрын
I am quite comfortable on a skateboard, but I would disagree that it takes several months. once people can comfortably stand upon a board and move forward, they're more than capable of extending and compressing. it just requires the correct approach. some flat ground "patterning" can help as well
@SurfStrengthCoach3 жыл бұрын
@@Tuffolo best option... don't fall. wear pads man! ask any ER doctor, there's a lot of 30+ yr. old dudes coming in with fractures from skateboard falls. biggest aspect, remember to roll! absorb the landing. in reality it's a need to measure and weight the risks vs. rewards.

"Muscle memory" . Central nervous system: Muscle memory is a result of motor learning that occurs in the central nervous system..."Neural pathways" Strengthening: Practicing a skill repeatedly strengthens the neural pathways associated with it, making the action feel more natural..Both muscle memory and neural pathways need repeated strengthening, practice repeatedly correctly...If not you ingrain wrong muscle memory that takes twice as long to undo via repeatedly practicing correctly....Nuances come from a base of "muscle memory" where you relax and adjust accordingly, yet are emergent from a solid fundamental technique... Amateurs practice until they occasionally get it right, professionals practice to rarely get it wrong..

this is a question only you can answer. if you want to put in the time to change your stance, then it would be more of a direct carryover for practice. if you can skate goofy, but have it make sense in your brain to switch over to regular in the surf, then perhaps stick with what you're doing. the learning process of learning to skate natural could probably be helpful in terms of motor learning and skill acquisition,.
