Varial flips are easy you do a kickflip and move the analog stick up to the right corner in goofy for regular it would be up to the left. Also hardflips in goofy is the same thing but with the analog stick going up the left corner

The hardest part is getting adjacent with the rail

One more thing in case people aren't aware: if you press BOTH triggers while in a grind you can then pop into a completely different grind on the same rail. Great video! I definitely learned some things I'm eager to try out

Great video! I've been using a different approach for crooks/overcooks; up on the front foot to lock in and left/right on the back foot. Another way to do nose and tail slides is to adopt the powerslide/shifty movement like t boardslides but being further from the ledge, this creates a pretty smooth lockin for super fast slides.

I had known but forgot upon playing the game that you could click the sticks to pop out, so that is something I'll use for sure. Again, great vid, on you Ghost of Tsushima stuff as well!

You can't do impossibles in this game as far as I know. Forward flips are possible I think, just do like a kickflip but hold the front flip diagonally forward and left instead of straight left

What he showed for a sugarcane wasn't a sugarcane. A sugarcane is the trick Chris Miller used to do. Backside 270 to fakie front smith. Matt Berger does em down rails. Frontside 270 to fakie back smith is a frontside sugarcane. Helpful video other than that.

Same here, I actually liked session a lot more than Skater XL at first but now that Skater XL has a real release and session... not sure what's going on with session. One thing though, Skater XL NEEDS that Session feature where you can place obstacles wherever you want them. That was honestly half the fun of that game

Quick tip for double grinds or jumping out of grinds I came looking for more tips on grinds but saw that you left out jumping from grinds to grinds. Found out yesterday that you could do this by using the bumpers before jumping, just press the bumper before jumping and you'll go to each side, left bumper to jump left or right bumper to jump right out of the grind, and press BOTH of them right before jumping and you'll go foward. Keep in mind that you have to PRESS them right before jumping out of the grind, not hold, PRESS them right before jumping out of the grind.

This has been helpful! I'd love to see a vid on flip tricks. I got used to [equally good game] Session's controls and consistent 3shuvs and what not give me issues in SkaterXL.

It seems pretty similar to Session to me? Maybe session is a bit more on rails if you know what I mean, the results are more clear when you do the inputs. With a 3 shuv just push one side with your back foot, make sure you have enough space and HOLD that back foot to the side until the board has made a full 360 rotation, then release to catch, otherwise you'll just do normal shuvs

@@PlaySA ahhh maybe that's the ticket, holding until it's a 3shuv. I can get them just not consistently. Thought it was just a harder flick. I didn't know if I should start with the back foot (right stick [reg]) down at 6'oclock or start it at 3'oclock, you know? Thanks for the info though!

Just a little tip, EVEN IF you use the triggers to start your boardslide/lipslide, you can still shifty/revert out of it at the end of the grind which looks WAY better. So, entry with the triggers, exit with the shifty

Use the bumpers. Press the left bumper right before jumping out and you'll go left, press the right bumper before and you'll go right, press both of them and you'll jump straigh foward and maybe continue the grind. Great tricks you did in the beginning, I can tell you’re a skater haha (I already knew that though because I saw your old skate footy and we talked for a bit about skating, I miss skateboarding, I feel too old to do it now at 30, I feel embarrassed even though skateboarding was my LIFE for sooooo many years. Loved the kickflip backflip 270 out! I can’t wait to do a trey flip front tail to fakie, haha and a trey flip noseblunt (like Eric Koston did on a handrail at the end of yeah right! I think Chris cole did it on a gold rail in some zero video as well, it’s a great trick (I’m sure by now many other skaters have done trey flip noseblunts on big handrails that I’m not aware of) great video! Btw, you have suski and salads mixed up but that’s ok, very understandable mistake) salad is like a feeble with the front truck raised where as a suski is like a smith with the front truck raised

They both have been in development for 4 years. And sxl obviously looks better due to the physic based animations and the fact the devs actually care about their fans. Im a skater in real life, have been for about 12 years now. Sxl is by far the best skateboarding game out to date. Session is more of a video game than a simulator with how buggy and off putting the controls feel imo. From one skater to another, sxl is the most realistic between the two.

Skater XL has a vastly better grind system. Session has the better flip trick system and the editable terrain / obstacles. Both good in their own way.

It has canned animations that look awful, compared to physic based animations that make me think im watching a real person skate half the time. Session makes me feel like im playing a straight up video game.

Pro tip, don't press the sticks at all for 50-50 grinds. I did them the way shown in this video for my first 100 hrs or so in the beta and always had trouble with them. Just line your board up and Ollie up onto the rail

Is there a better way to pop out of a grind to the left or right? Clicking the sticks just makes you magically pop out of the grind but I can't figure out for the life of me how to actually ollie out to the left or right.
