In this video I’m exploring the possibilities that riding retro reissue decks presents. The Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall Snake Back light is a cracking looking deck and I jumped at the chance to buy my mates spare one. I’m also working on re-learning some vintage tricks.
I also recorded some new music and re-worked the intro sequence.

That was a fun watch. I've been curious about how the flat deck feels in comparison to the modern concave. I have my eye on a Hosoi deck but they are very flat. I mainly do pools and bowls so maybe it'll be perfect.

@robdapraia3486
@robdapraia3486 3 жыл бұрын
@@JonBishopSkate Yes, it does have the double tail concave, although I hardly notice it while riding. The nose of the first models might be even shorter than the Kendall. Later they made a second design with a longer nose and extra holes to vary the wheelbase. Prices have gone sky-high? Crazy times. Two years ago I bought several of those first series boards, some to shred in the bowl, and a copy to hang on the wall.

Great video Jon. Love all the tricks. How do you find the 159s under that deck. I ride 169s under a 8.75 deck and love the stability of wider trucks. Recently got a 10" Madness shaped deck for cruising and threw 215s under it. Great for getting around town but they do stick out alot. The deck is pretty tasty though and am tempted now to put 169s on and dip my toe in a few pools with it. Like you said it's fun to try out different setups. Variety is the spice of life they say!
@JonBishopSkate
@JonBishopSkate 3 жыл бұрын
Nice one dude. Yeah 159s feel ace. Looking from above at the plan shape this board is only 10” for a tiny bit where it bulges out for the front foot. It’s only 8.5” where the back and front wheels sit believe it or not?! I put the 159s on mainly because it’s what I’m use to? My first board was the Roskopp, which is essentially the same thing and I had 169s on that. It felt fine also ?!

Old school shaped boards are a ton of fun. With your style, maybe try to get one with an even longer wheel base (15.5 to 16) and a slightly longer nose. Pool King, Black Label, and a few other brands make some nice shaped decks that fit the bill from time to time. The longer, slightly more pointed noses are wonderful for grabbing.
@JonBishopSkate
@JonBishopSkate 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, thanks for the input. I agree, a longer nose would be ace, it’s kind of fun battling with it though 😂 I think I’m so use to the 15” WB that it worked a treat, but I love riding my jM Duran and that has a 17” WB, so I know exactly where you are coming from !!

That extra kick on the tail is stop the back foot slipping off during backside airs. A lot of riders also move their back closer to the bolts for the same result. Your board slides around the corner are looking sick! I went from rib bones to santa cruz ribs and noticed the same difference as you. Now I can't go back! Skating different decks is like playing different guitars. I love the differences, I like to feel the differences and they make you approach things differently. Keeps things fresh and interesting and as you said, fun! It's the same when you try the same tricks at different parks. All the best, Rich in Sweden.
@JonBishopSkate
@JonBishopSkate 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, thanks for checking in dude. Yeah love the tail, it locks the back foot, which for me can be a bit hit and miss placement wise?! With a bigger nose this would be perfect!! I was looking at the Jeff Kendall Atomic man. Seems to have the Cruz Missile II concave and a 6” nose??
