I don't think that's the first time we played on the show but maybe it was the first time with Craig Bickhardt...Craig is such a fine player and singer and a funny guy as well! Thom did a great job! And it's always sad and wonderful to see/hear Mitch Humphries again. Good gosh he was such a great guy and musician! I miss him!

if you can't find one on eBay, check out a bigger newstand for an issue of Goldmine magazine. I've found several there through the years, I sometimes give them as gifts. Hard to find, but not impossible with patience.

Fred...There are a handful of songs that directly influenced my life. This is the one that I would play when I thought I needed a bigger, better house. 41 yrs now in same home as when we married. No regrets. Thanks, Man! My wife introduced me to your music. She really didnt want to move...

A beautiful song, beautifully performed. Any person, who has ever been sentimentally attached to a family home, will probably not make it through this song without shedding a few tears. I guess that says it all. THANK-YOU to whoever posted this video. I remember watching it, over and over, years ago when I taped 101 videos from CMT onto a VHS tape. Haven't heard this for years, but have never stopped looking for it. Pass the Kleenex....please.

My father passed away in March. We just put his house on the market. He lived there for 53 years. So many memories. This song pretty much wraps it all up. Yes, the house was strong and sturdy for us kids for many years. Now it has "a sign out in the yard that reads 'For Sale'". Very melancholy moment.

21 Years ago my aunt and a family friend did a project and went around my mom’s hometown: population of 300 people and found old family home. They found out the stories of the family homes that have been passed down for generations. All the farms surrounding were settled on by Irish settlers when they came over during the famine. At that time, my family tore down the original farm house that my great-great-great-great grandfather settled on in 1847. After the finished finding out all the stories from the families, some of my aunts and uncles and family friends sang this song at a church concert a few months later in honour of my aunt who did this project as she was suffering from cancer. A few days ago, it was the 20Th anniversary of her death. This song still makes me think of her every time I listen to it. It still has ALOT of meaning to our family. It is sung at almost every family function.

When this song first came out mom and I would lisyen together and cry through the whole song. Brought so many memories. Now she's gone and I'n cleaning out her house. Our home. I ran across a CD with my name on it. When I played it to see what was on it, it was this song. I crumbled with all the memories of her and me listening to it. We had to do alot of research to find out who write it and why it never made a hit with the world but to us it was the best belonging at the top. I will treasure my CD forever along with my memories of my mom.

I'm going to miss this old place no doubt. Thank you for posting this song. It makes saying good-bye a touch easier.

I have always loved this song. We moved into "this old house" over 18 years ago. I tried to find this then, but couldn't. It's been a good ol' house, but it's almost time to go smaller. Our younger family lives a couple of hours away, so I think it's time to go that way, and make new memories. This song is so precious, so bittersweet. Very nostalgic.

Oh, my gosh! Tell him thank you for me! I heard this song once, and only once, as a thirteen-year-old, when my family was moving out of my house in 1991 to go start a life across the country, and I've been actively looking for it ever since! The images were so strong; the broom, the tears, the memories -- I actually remembered these elements, but didn't have the exact lyrics and I couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks SO so SO much for posting this!!

In 1967, in eastern Kentucky, construction on the Cave Run Lake was started by the U.S. Government.. Many, many families lost their homes and farms. We were forced to leave our home and go where we didn't want to live. It crushed our soul and tore away a piece of our being. Our home was destroyed by a huge bulldozer that never slowed down on it's way to the next families home. We looked back when we left for the last time. All of the memories. All of the love that our house knew. Our Home.

Followup. The sign in my dad's yard no longer reads "For Sale", it says "Sold". I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I will inherit over $300,000 (he bought the house for $23,000, we listed it at $1,125,000, it sold for $1,385,000), but on the other hand my childhood home is no longer part of the family. The money is nice, but I'd rather still have that old house.

Awesome trio and album. I had just gotten out of Basic Training. USAF 87 to 91, Storm and Shield Vet. Three of the greatest songwriters to ever take a breath. Back in the day I bought the cassette. I wanna buy the CD. Skip Ewing comes to mind. This is when the neighbor boys ( The Kentcky Headhunters ) dropped Pickin on Nashville. I was stationed at Scott AFB and a local country DJ named Frank O. Pinion and I disagreed about everyone mentioned here. He said they all were over rated and none of you all would last 12 to 16 months. I told him he was nuts and full of shit. He said aren't you from Kentucky and said yes. He said stick to fat girls and leave music to the professionals. I replied that he should consider I'm a good 8 inches taller and 100 pounds heavier. He just walked away. 100 percent Asshat.

If ever there was a story where there are more questions than answers, it's the saga of Schuyler, Knobloch, & Overstreet (later Bickhardt). Easily the most talented trio of songwriters to ever perform/record together, Overstreet ditches just as their 2nd single goes #1, leaving S. & K. to promote a hit record as their group has just collapsed. Bring in Bickhardt, the group proves that they lost nothing when they lost O., they regain their stride, and BAM, their record label collapses. So many "why's" and "how's", and we'll likely never know the full story.
@jfredknobloch
@jfredknobloch 9 жыл бұрын
JustCallMeLoathesome well here are your answers... It's true Overstreet left the band but he'd just won a Grammy for a Randy Travis song and had lots of reasons to leave us to his benefit. Craig Bickhardt and Thom had been writing together and Craig had had some Judds cuts, was a great singer and musician and a dedicated guy as well. We were all in the same place and asked Craig to join and take Paul's place and he said yes. The demise of MTM was at least 18 months later and it was hard on us but we've all survived so far. It's a much simpler business than you might imagine... if there is no momentum in the marketplace you are quickly replace by the next big thing and we lost momentum, both as artists and the label support necessary to make things move forward. Hope this helps you understand... peace J Fred

J Fred Knobloch Hey man, thanks so much for replying! What an honor to hear from one of the men behind this wonderful song. Looking back, it's just difficult to believe there wasn't another label ready to sign SKB on the strength of their SKO resume and the proven songwriting power displayed here. Either way, fantastic work over the years, Fred, and I'll close by saying that "Bitter Pill To Swallow" is a real favorite.

+JustCallMeLoathesome I never thought of Paul Overstreet as "ditching" the band. I always thought it was just God calling him to go in a different direction. Paul's huge success and following God's plan is just evidence that God knew what He was doing. When it comes to songs about family values there is no one better than Paul.

+Bob Marshall ...."God calling him..." Screw that!...he had two Randy Travis cuts that sold well...and didn't need us anymore..."God calling him!"....you must be kidding me!!....God is the only being that doesn't know what she's doing!....that is what makes her God!....

+Bob Marshall FYI, Paul told me that he prayed that "Baby's Got A New Baby" would not go #1....he thought it was an evil song. Now how fucked up is that? He also asked me one time if "Catholics teach Jesus?" That's how stupid this guy is while being so talented!...makes me shake my head every night....
