Always loved this song but never realized how much the lyrics meant to me until we sold our vacation home in the mountains. We owned it going on 24 years and we're grateful that the people who bought it will love it as much as we did.

One of the most beautiful melancholy songs and performances of all times.🥲

The house I grew up in and in which my dad lived for 53 years is going to be sold today (he passed away in March). This song is so poignant for me today. This old house was bought for $23,000 in 1960 and will sell for $1.3 million today. The money is nice, but I'm feeling very melancholy today; I'd rather have my dad still here, and I'd rather have my childhood home still around. But, the memories are still around, and always will be.

I hear this song every time I drive by an old homestead. Bob, God bless you and your family. America was built on "the old homestead". I am editing a video now of a friends homestead. I smile, but I feel his pain too.

When my husband ds house sold I haven't the sadness. They owned it 56 years! He had been brought home in that home. So much love, and loving. Loss and sorrow.

I love this song, I don't know why it never got the recognition it deserves. I heard it and saw the video on CMT a long time ago and could never get it out of my head. I am so glad to have found it again.

I've been a country/western fan my whole life, (79 yrs). This is one of the most meaningful, tuching, and beautiful songs I have ever heard. I've heard songs about, This Old House, but this is the first time,This Old House responded in harmony. John Henry

Nashville's loss was Philadelphia's gain -- Craig plays this song still around the area. Great guitarist, great songwriter, great singer, great guy.

This song has always made me tear-up...this time was no exception. Loved hearing it performed live...thank you for sharing it with us. I still have the "No Easy Horses" vinyl album...even gave a copy of it to my day back then. It's always been one of my favorites. 🎶❤

The house I grew up in is no more - so this song brings back memories. Plus a bit of nostalgia.

mrcountrysounds, they most certainly DID write this - Craig Bickhardt, and from memory it was from about Thom's parents closing up their house in the Pittsburgh area. I go back to about 1985 with this song and this is where it came from. Who remembers the pure trio black and white video version?

@753684 Craig Bickhardt recorded this song in '09 on a CD called Brother to the Wind (cdbaby.com or itunes) It is a fantastic CD! I love all the songs on it. I prefer Craigs voice tho. There is also a youtube of Craig performing this song at the Phila. Folk Festival in '08
