SkeeRide First Deep Snow - 3D Printed Snowmobile

Took a drive to find some snow. It had all been tracked out but we still had a great time. The sled handles great, Just gotta power through some of the rough areas.

This is a fully 3D printable RC snowmobile. I have been designing and tweaking it for a long time now and I think it's time to start sharing how it is going.
This was designed from the very beginning with easy assembly and minimal purchased parts as the goal. I think I have accomplished that goal. Everything is printed except for: Electronics, screws, bearings, and shocks. It can be printed on a print bed 200mm x 200 mm or larger. Most items do not need any supports but there are a few that will need some.

Many of the parts of my design are inspired from other snowmobile projects that I have seen. I have reached out to those that some of my work might resemble. If you feel something looks similar to your work and you did not receive a message from me please reach out to me. Nothing in my design is a modified version of others work, All of it was hand made by me, but some may still resemble that of images I used for reference.
Disclaimer: Due to printer abilities being different and always changing, and the nature of an off road vehicle there is a good chance you will break parts. Luckily they should be easy to reprint and fix rather quickly. I will do my best to provide support through discord and if files are found in need up improvement I will do my best to improve and then include for free for those who have purchased the snowmobile. I give no guarantee that it will print perfect on your machine or that things will not break when you send the sled flying off a cliff.

Dude I’ve been wanting a rc snowmobile that actually can go through a few inches of snow and I’m currently in school so I’m definitely gonna purchase the files and build it for a project, looks great!

Thanks, I think the deep snow is where it really shines. In the thin stuff I tend to break parts hitting rocks and such. In the deep powder it goes awesome and rarely break anything.

Centrepital belt drive might be an intermetiad step, as its a proven design, and should work well with perspective of 3d printer strengths&weakness

Depends on the printer size and speed. Mine is pretty average and takes me just over a week if it’s going 24/7

I am not sure, and a different snow type can also make a big difference, same as the weight of the sled. But wen I see Pascal Robert his design (and also others) I looks like the snowmobiles ride more stable and also more on top of the snow. Could it be that your Ski design (that looks a bit more like a hull of a deep V speedboat) will cut through the snow more instead of riding on top? Steering will be better maybe this way but I can imagine it will take away some upward force?

Yes, that is possible. I’ve included a fatter ski design with the files for those that want it to “float” more. Based my ski design on some pictures of a real ski I found online that I thought looked cool. I’d say at least half the time the skis don’t touch the snow anyway 😆

What electronics did you run? I assume brushless but how many kv? And what kind of strenght for the servo?

3800kv sensored brushless with 120 amp esc. 55g metal gear servo. There is a pdf included with the files that lists everything.

you should look into making those skis a little wider. like a powder ski. would help with that digging in on the front end

There’s a wider ski option available. These work great most of the time, this was just really fluffy fresh snow. The real trick is keeping the skis in the snow so you can steer.

What size battery should I run to still have plenty of power but not to much?

That depends. Most people are running a brushless motor with a 3s lipo battery. The biggest factor in speed vs torque will be the kv of the motor and the pinion gear you use. Lower kv and lower tooth pinion equals more torque. Generally you want lots of torque for the sled.

A little over 1kg for the whole thing. 2kg will give you plenty.

3000kv 60amp 3S 1500mah in blue sled. 3800kv 120amp sensored 3S 1500mah in the green sled.

@@mstei001 so I bet there is about doubble the drag on the skid till I waxed the skid and back side of track. Way better. The track does not track as strait but it Diggs better in the snow and the lugs do not snap. So all in all I say better!!
