On top of Witch Queen being good, Bungie’s marketing and advertisement of Lightfall was phenomenal! They sold us on an “Infinity War” size saga. To me, that explains the high player count. Their marketing got people to check it out. Their actual product is what got people to leave.

this does happen in the corporate/business world. But usually because of bad talent management and poor business practices. The community constantly gave them more and more input that would have bettered the game and for the most part, it was all ignored. the higher ups shot themselves in the foot and blamed us for it then fired a bunch of people. it's just sad time for bungie and destiny 2 right now.

thanks for showing the creator Tom! checked him out immediatly and had a good time :D about the cycle that you mentioned: bad decisions from the same people who are leading is basicly what i comes down to.. And another point that always got me: If you wanted to get people involved with destiny.. why did they never deliver a pure singleplayer game within the destiny universe (i always had elsie bray in mind and showing how what she lived through while you get to play a special version of a hunter basicly, maybe even swap perspective into other classes/chars like osiris and even saladin/shaxx). They know how to do a good story, but dripfeeding it doesnt have to happen.. make a singleplayer for people to check out like halo:odst was a story/game on its own.. implement a skilltree that is basicly something from d2 subclasses: elsie with stasis, saladin maybe solar and osiris void/arc or watever mix n match you want to show off with some iconic destiny exotic weapons. get people to be involved in the universe.. give it a reasonable pricetag so people can check it out and it doesnt have to be a 100hr game.. basicly a halo campaign with the new destiny formula if they can create a season within a couple of months.. why not create a singleplayer for people to check out and d2 players can say reasonably to friends: Hey check [singleplayer destiny title] out and you dont have to spend 500hrs + 500bucks .. basicly a fleshed out timeline. destiny players would check it prolly out aswell and it wouldnt have to be a big new game.. they could develop it for the new consoles and old ones but i made this point multiple times so i digress destiny 3 would prolly only happen with the new engine they are working on + on the newest hardware that sony would sell since they got that deal going on.. which means development would have to start after marathon is out the gate + destiny 2 has a gameplan to feed them money to be able to actually do something like that.. so yeah many years later.. if they even want to call it destiny 3.. would much rather have a new destiny game/new ip alongside marathon. destiny 2 is a half dead horse.. leave it alone after the final sell.. i mean shape

I have no idea how i've never seen Tom Christie before but i'm definitely subscribing after that. 10/10 video. As far as the discussion afterwards regarding steam charts: Warframe is always a funny one to me because it's been so insanely consistent in its player counts that while it never tops the chart, it basically never drops below the top 50 but somehow manages to avoid "hitting it big" as it were. D2 players don't see it as being on the same level for some reason even though Steam only makes up a portion of the player base since it's on every platform known to man except mobile (but it's going there somehow lmao) and has its own launcher as well. Just funny to me.

I know this has been said with every Lightfall discussion but Lightfall lost all of the momentum that the WQ brought to D2. We all thought that the witness was finally going to be seen (at least not in a cutscene) but we got a very generic ending with no questions answered. All it left was a bland taste that no one wanted to follow up on. Which is why player retention dropped like flies.

9:50 Lightfall was highly anticipated because Strand was being introduced. My guess is because final shape didn’t include a 3rd dark subclass (or it was sub-par) they are reworking it to round out the classes before the next expansion.

I think the dissatisfaction for Lightfall was made worse by the fact that the DLC and season pass was nearly 100 dollars. They charged more and delivered less than Witch Queen. If they would have priced it to be more in line with Beyond Light or Witch Queen there would have been less backlash. Obviously there are other issues but the price was a major factor.

Killing Holliday and getting vengeance for her kept us playing. I am willing to take a few year break after final shape if it means getting a quality vanilla D3 that isn’t comparable to D2s launch. Take what works and take it forward cut out all the old stuff that is problematic. I’m not willing to keep slowly grinding the game as it declines, might not make the three million kill mark after all but I will wait for a great fresh Destiny game instead. You do a tie in like the D2 title screen has that shows my history and we get woken up from beyond the corridors of time as our way of stepping into D3 we have already seen our own grave and heard St-14 give our eulogy after all.

Cross I’m one of your very very big fans been watching you since the beginning of D2 I’m talking about the dark days even before forsaken, and I’m gonna say this your Monetization video really had huge impact and attraction in and out of the community (Don’t underestimate yourself my friend you are the international primary voice of this game even TWABs won’t be existed if it wasn’t for your “ another day and another TWAaab”) , but I’m afraid it really lead to substantial portion of the negative feedbacks wither on steam or on social channels ( just look at how many KZbin videos had you as reference). Having said so i know bungie strategy leaning up to monetizing the game more in order to recover from the failure of LF story ( which is not a total bad DLC if you look at how good is strand and how beautifully designed is RoN raid, despite the fact they screwed up big time at day 1 raid), let’s look at what is available in market today I’m sorry (with all due respect to the streamer but I can’t accept having Diablo, WoW gamers such as Asmon coming and shitting in our beloved game, I mean come on what (Live Service Game) live up to the quality of Destiny 2 there is absolutely no other game and seriously seeing how Diablo 4 community rally behind their game in its current state ( I play Diablo everyday) and how Destiny 2( the game that has substantial better graphic a way more content a 10 stars lore almost compared to star war series and huge fanbase), a real LIVE game (not seasonal update) I’m talking about week to week reset and all get shit on by its own community is really not fair, and please understand I’m definitely not trying to justify the horrible decision of layoffs including one of the best ever composer in the gaming industry as mitigation by managment that was absolutely a naive decision but hey Destiny the game that we grew up with the game that has part of our daily life needs its community support for real this time or we gonna lose it forever, and I promise you it will be REALLY hard to find game to call home afterwards!

My son and I played D1 & D2 up until right before the 30th Anniv. I was looking on xbox store and for us to get back into D2, to purchase 30th Anniv, Witch Queen & LFw/ annual pass it's as far as I can tell $155 each. So, $310 for both with another $200 to preorder LS. For a free to play person, it's $190 + another $100 for LS preorder. ~PASS. In my opinion this is why D2 is dying.

Witch Queen and the first three seasons of that expansion were top tier. The current and previous seasons are good also but that lull in the middle has caused less excitement for Final Shape as lots of players are gone.

I'm generally a very negative D1-2 vet but I will admit, from Witchqueen to Seraph I had a blast, every week was a raid or dungeon run with clan members and friends, and I was among the minority that actually loved the ship battles. Ultimately completed max difficulty of all activities, and attempted solo clears. As someone who thought that things were only going to get better, I feel like someone swept my legs out from under me with Lightfall, and it's been struggling since then to recover. While I feel bad for all the devs I simultaneously don't have sympathy for Bungie because they have always positioned themselves in a state of having to catch up or play recovery

Skeletor is an amazing character as he's being presented by this youtuber. Destiny 2 monetary system is rotten to the bone, it's disgusting how an effin DLC (Lightfall) costs $100 because it includes the "annual battlepass" and now the next DLC costs again $100 because of "annual battlepass". $100 is only good for a brand new game, not a story line, few raids and a pass with rewards for each level.
