Hi,.i'm a new subscriber from Australia (73 yr old). I've had little to none association with horses, but love all animals especially those that have made our life easier in the early times. Can you relate to me what you are doing in rescuing these horses, that in itself is amazing. Close to where i live there is a (farm) that takes unwanted horse and train them, with the help of young people who want to ride, each given their own horse to love and relate to and become friends with. Teaching young people how to care for these beautiful and often discarded animals. Please reply. You know why you are doing this wonderful thing to save beautiful horses that might very much end up where we will not discuss. Keep doing the great work. Your old friend in Australia Al.

In once surprised my boi munching under an apple tree that was OUTSIDE the fence. He not only rolled under a wooden fence but also e-wire, he was a fjord, so his mane was a natural protection to all predatory e-wires. The moment he realized I was coming he got the biggest shock. They really know what is outside and inside of a fence. He also was able to ram his way in a stoic way through all doors. The horse of my friend on the other hand, didn't even cross a dead white band lying on the ground.

When my horse was five he had to have surgery for a bladder stone. I bought him from his breeder, who raised all their horses outside - they didn’t even have a barn. Consequently, Holiday detested being kept in a stall. He was in the veterinary hospital for several days, and when I picked him up his toes were worn down from standing at the stall door and pawing. When I got him home and put him in a stall, he had a fit about it. I had a smallish paddock and I electric-fenced the bottom of it off so it was about 14’ X 20’. He could be outdoors, but not run around and hurt himself. Every week I moved the fence back a few feet until he was cleared to go back out into the pasture. This worked very well for my horse.

I remember one night my parents woke me up at 1am to tell me my horse was trotting down the road as they passed him on the way home from a party, so I had to get up fetch some cow cake which is quite hard and rattly, to rattle in a tin bucket and go and find him, when I did he had taken all the small ponies that were in the field with him, so there were five of them, they were right at the top of a massive field [this is the UK] so I just shut the gate and went back the next day to lead them all home, all the little ponies followed him, he was such a naughty boy!

Naughty horses are the smart ones. I had bought my first horse, a half Arabian, half unknown. He was delivered to the boarding barn in the evening. The stalls all had just a simple latch on the doors. Well he knew how to open a simple latch so in the late evening when everyone had left he let himself out of the stall. Then he went around and introduced himself to all the other horses and while he was at it he let them out too. The owner arrived in the morning to a herd of horses loose in the barn. When I arrived he was in his stall and the stall had a double lock on it. The owner was not pleased.

I don’t normally like videos with voice over… but I really enjoy your videos. Your narrations are informative, storytelling is on point, and I smile at your characterizations of the animals. I had horses when I was young, got hurt, started training dogs instead. The last 20 years or so, I have been clicker training my dogs to teach them to help me as service dogs. When you talked of Skelator needing more brain work on the walks, consider clicker training him to do tiny tricks as you walk. Target stick, curl his lip, etc., and you could reward with fresh grass if not treats of some kind. Now that I am disabled and can’t do as much with my dogs, I use brain work with them.

Horses are ten times stronger than humans they work best via cooperation. How a human and horse work this out is more an art than a particular set of rules. “One horsepower is a unit of power that equals the work done in lifting 550 pounds one foot in one second. One manpower = a unit of power based on the rate at which a man can work; approximately 75 watts, or about one tenth of a horsepower. In other words, it takes ten strong men to do the work of one horse.” University of Texas Austin

Purring is a soft buzzing sound, similar to a rolled 'r' with a fundamental frequency of around 25 Hz. Maybe the Thera Plate gadget feels like a giant purring machine, and your cat does not want to share it with others... Maybe...
