My favorite thing about skellige was how much more respectful the people were towards witchers compared to the people of velen and novigrad. Truly felt like a safe beautiful place.

I agree, they were much more welcoming too and didn't care so much about names but more so about what you could do.

I love the cultures of Skellige. It has a lot of inspiration from Nordic and Celtic culture. This also includes inspiration from the Viking culture. It’s just like how the nords of Skyrim have a lot of inspiration from the Nordic cultures.

The lore in my head is that there were and are but there isn't as much diversity b/c of the greater natural competition in water (sharks, killer whales, sperm whales, etc) than on land.

Oh yeah, those are amazing XD It's also interesting to see how older generations have more southern (ROI) varieties (Madman Lugos, for instance, is pretty much a Dubliner) and younger folk sound more Northern Irish. And in the larger picture, Temerian people speak Midland English and Redanians more Northern English dialects (Radovid's accent is pretty much Yorkshire English), so the accents/dialects in the Northern Kingdoms and Skellige mirror the variational linguistic situation on the British Isles, which I absolutely love

Very much a Norse-Gael influence like in places in Ireland/Scotland, most of the big cities in Ireland were made by the Norse, Skellige is like a fantasy version of how the Isle of Mann was.

The temple on Undvik is a peculiar place. It's Elven, and I question why it was built in the middle of nowhere, when even the jarls of Skellige knew enough to 'fit in' with the landscape, look at Kaer Trolde, built to fit in the mountain, not out standing in the middle of nowhere with no protection!

Different from the Northern realms, they are not bound by non-human issues or Mages. They will never submit to the Imperial rule as well. I remember reading the GWENT info about how scholars on the mainland conclude that the reason for failing to conquer Skellige is because of weather, Skelligers think that is the best joke they ever heard. lolll

I would say that Skellige has the best representation of a Nordic based culture in a medieval high fantasy setting. I would even say that Skellige looks more accurate to Nordic culture than Skyrim. There is a common saying that “Skellige did Skyrim better than Skyrim did Skyrim”

Culturally skellige feels very viking. As a norwegian it makes me smile when i hear words like "ragh nar rog", althing, freya, hemdall (heimdallr) and going on raids. But their accents makes me feel like i'm on ireland and it looks pretty irish or scottish in nature. So it's a mix between celtic and norse culture and folklore, i love it.

Skellige is basically a remix of viking raider culture and scottish highlander clan culture. While Iron islands is pretty much just viking raider culture with some modifications. Skyrim is just basic pre-viking era nordic culture.
@luckiller019

the thing is, Skelliga is fantasy vikings done right with all their falls and merits while still fitting in the universe they are set in. Iron Islands are bordeline larpers. Like some reall life Nordic anachronism who somehow survived to war of roses. To short it up. Goth is hurting my Europen historic sensibility because it is a war of roses stretch over a continent yet with the limitation of the British Isles without being half as diverse as reall medieval Britain.

Vikings with northern Irish accents nice climate decent people who aren’t complete assholes. To hell with Tousant of idd were Geralt id permanently settle there specifically in Unvik. Don’t know about any of you but when I first played the quest the Lord of Unvik traveling to this wild island I immediately fell in love. The visuals are stunning the music amazing the brutal geography and the sense that you are exploring a uninhabited undiscovered frontier surviving only be relying on local available supplies is perfect for the Witcher mindset. I would set up a new school of the wolf build a new fortress in the middle of on the island to train a new generation of Witcher’s and Witchereses. More than their training and mutations the natural geography would help mold and develop their strength and endurance through survival and struggle. As part of a final test I would send young Witcher’s to survive for a few weeks in the wild to travel as far as the eleven tower and slay a decently powerful beast. If they survive and bring back a trophy to prove their success they pass and begin the Witcher’s path already possessing the practical knowledge of what this kind of life brings.
