Yeah I can imagine why you would think that way because all sketchbook tours on KZbin are all of they're best work so it's hard to see a sketchbook as where you just sketch! I always have all of my best work on separate pieces of art paper that are really high quality while my sketchbook is something cheap and not as stressful to try to work with to make perfect. :)

i love that you "don't respect" your sketchbook that much! i love how loose your sketchbook is, and how you can tell you have fun with your art. i think my favourite piece you showed was doggy mount rushmore. it's also super cool to see how you develop ideas for videos, and then go back and watch them in their final form. you get to see the progression, which is always my favourite part of seeing other artists' work

FINALLY. A realistic sketchbook tour. Literally every other sketch book tour I've watched on KZbin is filled with perfectly finished pieces with a few doodles on the side to make it look a bit "sketchy". I was starting to get the idea that no artist has a sketchbook like mine- full of unfinished sketches and actual experiments which don't always turn out too cool. This. Honestly, even though you can use your sketchbook however you want, I'd say the best use of it is this. Putting down ideas, being rough and abusing the crap out of it in the name of experimentation and relaxation. I personally found that trying too hard or being too precious with my sketchbooks really held me back so I just stopped caring about its state and did whatever and nower days I don't hesitant or feel tense about drawing and it really shows. Awesome sketchbook tour and good luck with practicing this year!

not being able to finish a single sketchbook for a long while resonated with me for whatever reason. i got into watercolor because you were in my recommended and i was so inspired by your work. it’s not great that both of us took forever to fill a single sketchbook, but i’m glad to know that it doesn’t matter what skill level you’re at, we all have the same struggles. p.s. it’s a “sketch”book. it should be for sketches. i hope perfectionism stops having such a harsh grip on artists at some point.

Your sketchbook is very refreshing and even though there were a few very crappy sketches, in each and every on no matter how crappy you skills showed. I fell into the trap of having a show off sketchbook. I seriously need to drop this attitude and enjoy my sketchbooks as I did when they simply provided the paper to doodle and do stuff. I know its not like those fully rendered sketchbooks most traditional art youtubers post but I definitely think that this is how most sketchbooks are and it’s okay!!! It’s realistic and most of those youtubers I’ve found have two sketchbooks, one for their “bad” sketchy drawings and one for their sketchbook tours, and it just ends up giving unrealistic expectations to beginning artists and beyond, even though they are nice to look at. Idk I like seeing sketchbook tours that are more like this and don’t make me feel like I’m not a “real artist” whenever I look at my sketchbooks and they aren’t finished art pieces. Sketchbooks are supposed to be sketchy!!

This is actually how I interpreted how to use a sketchbook before seeing the different youtube tours too...but I've personally always been one to mix both idea drawings/ doodles with kinda fully illustrated images that just aren't like "final drawing" quality.

I have a sketchbook and it has a wire spine so I could tear out pages. I always tear out the finished pieces (inked/colored) and put them in a binder that I keep all my finished artwork in. So my sketchbook is basically filled with unfinished drawings and failed attempts to make a finished pieces so ppl always say that I waste so much paper but I have the finished ones in the binder at home.
