This video is a quick flip through my watercolor and gouache art journals over the last 5 years. My sketching studies encompass still life, local Arizona landscapes, figures and portraits. Peaceful, yes. Getting a wee glimpse into your art perspective...watching the master create! I have felt drawn to art since my youth and have felt a growing pull over the past few years. Now...it has become a craving. How does one tame the beast? I want to learn everything all at once!!!

Truly amazing video, as always. I got some gouache (which I’m still promising like the French pronounce “gauche” /“left.” That’s how new I am.) I only bought it about two weeks ago and am still too nervous to try it. I think my hopes are too high and I’m worried about the letdown 😋 but! Watching this helped nudge me back in their direction. Thank you muchos as always!!! ❤❤❤ and your paintings are FANTASTIC. Absolutely wonderfully fantastic. ❤

Perfect! I am so glad you are working with gouache. It is really the hidden gem of the painting materials world. It can look like a watercolor and an oil paint at the same time. Plus, it is water based. So it is no where near as toxic as oils and can travel on an air plane with you. Anyway, if you have experience with watercolor, I would initially treat it like that. As you make mistakes, because gouache is much more opaque than watercolor the less water you use, you can paint over that initial layer to make those corrections. Once you paint a few paintings, you will get the hang of it so fast. Thank you always for the kind words. I am just so honored that my videos have connected. It is just so cool. Anyway, best of luck with the gouache. It is a whole lot of fun.

@@michaeljohnnolan gouache is nuts!!! It really IS sooo versatile!!! I’m confused why I didn’t learn about this stuff until only just recently. I never really enjoyed the watery-ness of water colors. My Grammy was super big into them and I’d feel guilty for just kinda being “meh” about ‘em. They’re beautiful in other paintings; I just like the option to have substances, you know? There’s never a solid ground in water colors. Gouache, though… This is causing my brain to rethink my thoughts!! Thank you so much for the info on the gouache!! It motivated me to get all the gouaches stirred up and sampled (I got the himi and despite the internet telling me it was fine they didn’t have lids, I really had to set up my distilled water game to be comfortable enough to pull off those foils. Who doesn’t put covers on wet set supplies that need to be wet?!?!?! But you helped push me over the hesitance, so thank you!!!! 💕💕❤️💕❤️💕💕
