Yes I know I am. I am a perfectionist and always push too hard. I look at other’s work and think I look so amateur in comparison. I need to stop that.

Have both the Etchr and Hahnemuele Sketchbooks. The Hahnemuele was a nightmare to work with as far as paper pilling, hard to lift, etc. Etchr was the best sketchbook I've ever worked in; love it!

Hi Shannon, I always use the Beta book for gouache and that works just fine! I also use the Etchr sketchbooks.

I so enjoy your sketchbook tours - seeing the outcome, your struggles, why something worked or didn't. I am a novice at best and I feel like that kind of information invaluable. I would love to see your some videos on your daffodil/tulip/flower style sketches. I think during the time that you were away from YT, the algorithm has changed. Quite a few channels I watch started mentioning that their views were dropping about 6-8 months ago.

Nice book Sharon. It’s fun to see your progress and how hard you work to accomplish what you want to succeed in (leaves, grass, and foliage.) I love watercolor and have no desire to learn gouache but I do enjoy watching it. There is only just one of me though and I can’t put time into many different mediums because I’m wanting to excel in watercolor. I don’t feel well most of the time so I save my good days for painting. I do take classes and am amazed how much I can learn even from just watching. We just got a foot of new snow (ugh) in 48 hours and I have been anticipating spring so I would love for you to paint flowers! 😄

Okay! I will do that next. I’m so sorry to hear about your snow. Yuck. We got thunderstorms and tornado watches here last night and all day today from the system moving across the country. Likely the same one that fave you snow. The lightning kept me up all night. 😊 I prefer that this time of year.

Another very enjoyable trip through one of your sketchbooks, Sharon, with lots of finished pieces as well as other pages with test swatches, written notes about the paints and the quality of the paper; in other words a sketchbook being used as a real workshop! I'd definitely be in favour of some more line & wash florals, as it's one of my favourite subjects (especially for the 'scribbly' b/day, Christmas & Valentine cards I do for the wife). Of the two sketchbooks you're considering for your next one, I'd personally like to see the Etchr Perfect sketchbook, as it's cotton and I've had so many difficulties with wet media on cellulose paper over the years, so it would be great to see a cotton one put through its paces. As regards your comment regarding 'general requests' ... once the Michigan weather catches up with our Floridian temperatures, I'd be very interested in any urban sketching that you do. Thank you Brian. Yes I am returning to watercolor very soon. In fact today while I make homemade dog food, and do laundry, and stay covered from these horrible thunderstorms we are having, and a tornado watch, I will be doing practice line and wash before making a video for you all. You haven’t mentioned 4 legs (Cocoa) in awhile. I hope he is doing well along with 2 legs of course! And I will be traveling in a few weeks to Tennessee and somewhere else, I don’t know yet where, but I plan to do some sketching along the way.

@@SharonCullenArt Coco's doing just fine, Sharon, and she's so enjoying life that she's maybe putting on a little too much weight. So Daddy is having to exercise her more and keep an eye on her eating. She's only about 6 lbs so even a few ounces qualifies as weight gain for her. Trish has been in S Florida for most of the last 7 weeks dealing with a family medical emergency. It's her younger brother and he's really not doing so good. She's due back on Saturday but then has to travel back next week for about 10 days to tie up some loose ends with the VA (her brother is a Vietnam vet and was wounded there, so at least he's able to get decent care within the VA). A touring sketchbook of your trip to Tennessee would make a great video I'm sure!

I picked it up and put it down several times. It is very different than watercolor for sure. One day I picked it up again and there weren’t any videos at the time, but I loved it. I like watercolor too but I guess gouache now is just more natural to me and I love the look of it.

Yeah I plan to do the northern lights on watercolor paper but I want to try on gouache. I have never done it with go;ache before. And okay I can do tulips.

That’s a good question. Basically I think you get more bang for your buck buying a sketchbook rather than a pad of paper because you are using both sides of the paper. I think it depends on what you like to use. Are you a 100%cotton user, or 25% or do you prefer cellulose paper? I spend the extra money on the Etchr perfect sketchbook because there are a. Lot of pages and they are 100% cotton. Do you like thin or thick paper? See there are a lot of factors that go into choosing something you like. I used to love Pentalic sketchbooks and became an ambassador for them but then they moved in a different direction and I moved onto cotton paper and I love it. For watercolor especially. I think it matters more for watercolor than gouache. So what would you be using it for? If you let me know all these things I can try to help. But my best advice is to shop around. I’ve heard good things about US art supply sketchbooks from Amazon also but they are not cotton so I haven’t tried them. The ones I like using the best right now are “The Perfect Sketchbook” and “the Etchr Sketchbook” which is the white canvas lighter weight version by Etchr Labs. They are however, overpriced, over packaged and need to be more competitive. We need another company to come up with another very good cotton sketchbook that increases their competition. If that happens they will be forced to come down on price. I believe they use Fabriano artistico paper which would mean that they are paying them as well which keeps the price up.

i don’t remember the title but it was with Maddy Bellwoar. just type in her an,e and it will come up. It was a gouache class. I took it to watch her style of painting. it is more of a beginner class though. I don’t know where you’re at in your learning process. I also like Ruth Wilshaw’s classes. she has a website and she used to do Patreon. the cost is very low and you can cancel anytime. Google her. You may like this more. lots and lots of classes.

I liked the ink and wash flowers and would enjoy seeing more. I just really like that format for flowers. Also, loved the frosty scene on 3-30 page. I just opened an Etchr A5 Perfect Sketchbook this week. It too bugs me with all the packaging. All the while I am throwing away the packaging I am asking myself - Why? And yes, they could lower their prices if they nix some of the over the top packaging let alone all the waste. Last comment - Instagram - IG seems to have gotten so weird since it started pushing reels over other content. Maybe I'm just too old to get it but I rarely am shown new content of people I follow (including you). I guess I am going to have to ask my niece for some Instagram help. 🤔
