Your journal is a wonderful tool for learning about the world around you. Whether on a trip of a lifetime or in your own back yard, winter or summer you can find something interesting to sketch. This little video was done for my "Keeping an Artist's Journal" mini-class, cathyjohnson.info/online.html, but I'm feeling nature in my bones right now, and decided to share.

Hi Cathy. I have used watercolor pencils once and they faded like all get out, once they were dry. Could it be they are cheap? I got them for $5 at Micheals just to try! Or, is this the nature of the best even with the Faber Castell and other finer pencils.

Hi, thank you for the great video!! Could you please tell me what kind of the soft pen or pencil do you use (at 7.58 in the video). What's the brand name? I like it very much :)

I have a question, if you don't mind. I would like to purchase that Albrecht Durer pencil you are using, but can't tell by looking online at Blick Art which of the greys most closely matches the pencil you are using here. They have 5 Cool Greys & 5 Warm Greys. Would you mind sharing the exact name of yours? Thank you so much for sharing your videos! I have loved all of them as well as your books!

P.S. I have loved that Derwent Watercolor Pencil you've recommended in your books & videos!

I'm sorry, I really haven't found one that matches the Derwent, if that's what you mean...Derwent's Steel Blue (I think) Graphitint is close. It would be a cool gray in Durer that would be closest, but they're really not very blue.

Thank you for your reply. I really was just asking for the color name of the Albrecht Durer pencil you used in this video. The Derwent comment I made was just a thank you about the Blue Gray recommendation you made in your books.
