That chain is sharpened pretty good I'd say. It is firing sawdust and chips about 20 feet. We don't call them chips in my area Buckin'. We call them 2x4 studs. You could probably make more money off the 2x4 chips than you could the log. ha ha Keep up the great videos Buckin. You are a real inspiration to us all. Thanks.

Big tree like that is gonna be 2’ deep in the ground once it falls from the stump, even if he could get the truck/winch in there he’d likely not be able to pull it free from the base. You’re talking throw lines and all sorts of rigging stuff. He had his falling kit and got it done, definitely looked sketchy at times but hard to judge accurately from the footage.

This video also gets me thinking about whether you should just turn and run, (and perhaps drop the saw first), as you did on an earlier release, or if you should look up and try to dodge the hazards. My take is that you should run if the hazard is limbs falling out of the sky. However it's the whole tree that is going to topple after getting straight, you should look up. You will have more time to get out of its path than with a falling limb, and almost no chance of outrunning it. With falling limbs, you can get far enough out of the way in the few seconds it will take any limb to fall, that it would take a freaky throwback to get you. Working in backyards doesn't offer the same opportunities to have a depth of relevant experience, so it would be nice to hear from the loggers on this one. What do you think Billy? Thes are the things I like to think about I looked at the video again and it appears that you were a little off-balance from the last swing of the ax that tripped the tree, so that would have significantly impeded any ability to run out of the drop zone. I think you instinctively made a choice to look up, knowing that you might not be able t get out of the danger zone as quickly as needed.

hey Daniel , happy holidays , i new this one wood have a couple surprises for me as it was dust,, take another peek at 15:41.. it gives me some communication as where the movement was goin to be , this one really didnt have any real tension or compression ,, more like side twist 15:41 kinda a feel as you go and get ready to roll ,, in retrospect i wish my left hand was on the stump not the stem as that was where i lost that first jump out .. ive bin dodging snags for 20 somethin' years, and can honestly say no two have been the same . most i have forgotten about , where as some i will never forget and am reminded every morning when i move to get out of bed. when i see guys staring at their curf in the back cut as the tree starts to go in a regular old falling scenario , its only a matter of time and that habit gets knocked out of them . usually they clean up after a hit ,,if the chance is there . peace and love at this time of year

You're a better man than me, billy. I was stump jumping a dead 18" alder in the same position when the top 20' broke out and chased me. Fortunately i was head up and dove over a stick i had already dropped which took most of the brunt. I ended up with a nasty concussion but it could have been worse. The stubs of the branches were 12"+ into the ground on the other side. If not for watching the top and a lot of luck i'd be dead. Alder is bad enough and dead alder is ugly. Dead, leaning, hung up alder... someone else can deal with it. I have no desire to try for the 10th of the 9 lives they blessed me with at the factory. 😬

First of all a shout out to all of the Buckin' Army and a warm welcome to the new subscribers. Hope you're all doing well. You got my heartrate going there, Buckin'. Seeing you make the cut, looking up I could almost hear your brain yelling "I got to be able to get out of here fast" which is what you did. Great job! Hope you've got the time to answer a question: why did you choose to let the tree slide of the stump forward instead of backwards? When it comes backwards you would have a bigger angle which in turn would make the next cut safer, for the tree drops more vertical. Just wondering, because like always: some things are impossible to judge without actually being there out with you instead of watching things get done on video.
@orangeshaw23705 жыл бұрын
The optimal angle for a long ladder to be stable is 70° (63⅓° plus safety factor of 7° for creak) from the ground. eg. 90° adds more weight, but because you know the ladder/limb/trunk has no roots it can topple. 45° adds more weight to the supporting tree, but then you have unresolved springloaded bending stresses in both. 👲 The tree faller uses his discretion (to decide you need to choose between two logical options) in resolving the situation. ie.Stick to the plan (thumbs up)

omg Buckin .. that was a pucker ... lol .. i actually do loads of leaners and snags wind damage etc.. last week had a 120ft 45° leaning spruce against a barn ..even an old fireman(hearing the chainsaw ofc and had to check it out) said to ''just dont walk under it ''..lmao...i just went for it using the brain..and never in a hurry ;) only 2 new roof tiles as damage .. i do my fence posting almost like a normal humbolt cut, but going in on a pitch ofcourse .. many times almost vertically.. or add a swanson 2 steer it.... depending on tention side !! .. compression side first.. and a secundary little next to it .. like when ur bucking bigger logs 2 prevent from getting stuck , it gives a little room for it to move and it wont hang on itself that quick.. BUT i always try keeping holding wood .. until she talks and says where she wants to go ...if she hangs ,just a nibble on the front cut.. if your not an experianced powersaw man; DONT DO THIS !!! (dont wanna seem a debby downer.. but Bucking makes it seem like easy peasy ofc ..) extra note * DONT mess with rotting trees .. ! they are just nasty and should be looked at by a professional..!! great to see it all worked out with the clients but wow.. this sure was redemption if u ask me .. u maniac!!! :D that was wayyyyy more hairy than it looked .. pls stay safe Buckin .. we do need more vids, and not from the hospital .. definitely crossed my mind. where would you start cutting though to maintain a safe working position, you could tip back stuff from high in the cedar but there might be some jousting action up there, if you could be happy the firs were secure you could srt up above the jam and cut off one leg of the Y, but you'd have to be sure it didn't twist on you badly when the weight came off... interesting one for sure :)
