mike I was thinking about getting the alan lacer skew,,i have been told its a lot less forgiven if you get a catch and easier to learn on,,,and I have also told you can put the rounded curve on a beveled skew like the alan lacer,,which do you prefer or recommend,,

I rarely use my big Lacer skew as it is just too big for me for most of the work I do. It is 1 3/8. I prefer a 3/4" WiTH a short handle. I like the curved grind on his big skew but prefer a straight grind on my 3/4. The right one is the one that works for you.

Mike I am a new turner when I am turning a small diameter i the SKU seems to work fine but on larger diameter's I continue to get catches any suggestions?

Question: Mike. If I split a 2x4 in half, which tool would I use to get ot round? The skew or the rough gouge?

Because pine is a bit course, I would use a roughing gouge but a skew can work also, especially if y ou are wanting skew practice.

That's ok I started with the standard skew then sharpened it with the curved cutting edge, still had catches. I then tried an oval skew and prefer it. It's a personal thing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKrVomSvgraLf80

If I had started with one, maybe I would like it but don't own one so have limited personal experience with one.
