Thank you for sharing this! Just finished up at Bear Mountain & I was the only one out there with skiboards. I have Line Weapons. I dusted them off after 20+ years & they were perfect after a fresh wax. I had a blast! The non-release bindings can be scary after a fall. I ran into my daughter’s snowboard after she fell, I wiped out & thankfully didn’t hurt my leg too bad. Kept going! I’ll share my GoPro footage soon.

Great explanation, Talon. Thanks for helping keep the sport alive! I started with Snowblades. I don't regret a thing. Rode them one season then got some 89cm MNP's (conehead model) in 1998. A few years ago, I picked up some DLP's. Now I've started collecting skiboards so I can start my friends on something a little better than the Snowblades. That said, those little Solomons put in some work converting my friends to skiboarding. Theres a lot to be said for the easy adjustability of the Snowblade binding.

Thanks for the content, super helpful. I had no desire to ski and being old AF and really didn’t want to try snowboarding again (been 20 years or so). Grabbed a used set of beaters and there was almost no learning curve to a day of enjoyment on groomed slopes. I’ve been ice skating for over 30 years so guessing that’s why it felt so natural. But never would have gotten a pair of boards without this video.

I'm a novice skier, just learned how to ski last season. I found dealing with ski boots and poles and skis to be a hassle. I'm someone who in all likelihood is going to ski a handful of times a year at most, with my family. Skiboards and snowblades and ski skates look like a fun alternative with less hassle, especially the ones that use snowboard boot bindings. Is there a entry level or budget skiboard that fits the bill for someone like me (and my kids)? Are these things even available at rental shops?

I dig the snow boards! I ski a pair of short skis... Head Salamander 94cm with rental bindings... I helped coach snowboarding and skiing for a few year and these were helpful to skate up hill without ski poles to aid beginners,... but now I like skiing with them more than my board or long skis. Sooo much fun in the park and in the tree trails. Mine are not wide enough for the powder though so I need some snow boards! 😁 What are a good pair for groomed trails and some powder, still good for the park though?. I'm about 148 lbs.. maybe 156 to 160 with gear. Great video BTW. Thanks

What do you think of Salomon escape outrack? It’s marketed as a Nordic ski, 120cm and something for the backcountry and cross country. I am 210 pounds and 5’6 and I started looking for a type of skate ski but I found that those are mostly narrow. I’m wanting more of something that’s wide and can go on non-groomed trails because I am going to be in backcountry, putting forth my own track and mostly going in parks. I first started looking at bc skis that were 190 CM to 207 CM, but I started thinking about going smaller because I saw the Nordic ski that snowfeet makes. that one’s only 90 CM long and it seems a bit narrow. for my weight, I don’t think I’m going to glide as much with that. It has decent specs in my opinion, but I just don’t see myself going far with that one and I worry about the longevity of it. Then I did some more googling, and I found the one by Salomon. It’s a new ski and I’m not finding barely any type of reviews on it yet. The only thing that’s holding me back from getting it is the fact that it uses a skin instead of a fishscale. So I’m curious as to how this Salomon escape outrack could glide over back country. Both of what I mentioned don’t use ski boots. They just go over your regular footwear. Hope you reply back. I’m trying to make a decision before our next snowfall here in New York. I will not be going to any ski resorts. I’m the type of person who wants to take my skis on a side street, backyard, parks, hiking trails, so I will be on non-groomed trails. I started looking for shorter stuff because of the terrain that I would be going on. I’m not gonna be able to maneuver with a long ski. That’s why I started looking at shorter bc ski. Salomon’s is 120 cm and I feel that it would handle my weight much more than snowfeet’s nordic ski at 90cm.

Great video! I’m a snowboarder now but love trying new stuff! If I wanted to try and use my current snowboard boots would I need specific bindings or could I use the same ones that are on my board? I noted the with ski risers you have the quick release option, but with using the snowboard boot/binding set up would you have the option of a quick release binding or no ?

I've used long skis and I've gone snowboarding, and I hated and failed at both. I kinda found my niche in the skiboard / snowblade world. I'm still using the same Snow Jam 75cm boards I purchased 15 years ago. I believe these are far better than the crappy Solomans you mentioned though. I would like to upgrade to the 95cm boards with the non-release bindings you showed. Great video, keep up the cool informative vids.

I’ve skied before. It can be an expensive sport. I’m kind of glad that my Family wasn’t into it when the kids were growing up...since we have 4! But here I am...watching Talon Sei describe the fine art of ski boarding. Of course I watch anything Talon brings to us as a topic, since he does such a great job at delivering and describing the product. I do understand why companies would want to sponsor or partner with him. Those are some pretty sharp companies for realizing their products(s) will be well represented and reach a broad audience!

An you sit back on the ski boards? One of my favorite places is only accessible if you lay back and basically lay on the skis to go under a bridge and down the electric poles.

You can compare all models using this specification chart - www.skiboardsonline.com/BRDS.html

Revolts are 105s and slimmer, KTPs are 101s and fatter. Best to compare technical specs on skiboardsonline.com I prefer the revolts now.

I learned on snowblades this season, since I'm coming from roller skating, but I would love to be able to hit deep powder. That & construction quality both have me convinced to switch, but where would I find skiboards these days?

Sooooo, living in yosemite now, i testes out the 24 year old Solomons skiblades and fell in love. Now, I have a pair of Banana Blades! I do want a set of Skiboards since now i know the difference.

Thanks for this Vid, this gives me a great insight about Skiboarding. I always wondered if there is anything between Skiing and Snowboarding. Since i don't Ski or Snowboard (only Snowbiking) i was wondering what i should try next. Snowboarding i tried, but i don't like the way how you are bound to the board. (Although powdering in the deep snow looks amazing!) Sking i tried when i was a kid once but i wouldn't say i really did skiing. Now to ask: Would you as a beginner start right away to Skiboarding or should i start with normal skiing? And someone with no knowledge about Wintersport at all what would you recommend?

If you’re not familiar with freestyle, are ski boards good candidates for just riding?
@TalonSei

Yeah there are board types for all different types of riding. The Stuff & Thing revolts are great do it all boards for all mountain riding.

@@TalonSei awesome to know! Been riding Snoblades and shorter skis for years. Wanted to try your company, but I also thought it was specified for freestyle only.

I got 2 sets of 99.9cm snowblades, rip 'em all over, even backcountry, (not a gaper), got 2 sets of the Hagan off limits 130cm, killer little ski! Looking to purchase the Spruce slingshot 119cm, I like the set back mounting as I ride fast and softer snow as well. Tried the "center mount" and dont care for it as I do not "jib" in the park but prefer to ski the steeper stuff and away from the gaping masses..

Question? I find that my feet and ankles seem to hurt a bit more with skiboards, do you think that is a length issue or a boot issue? My thought is that a longer ski might distribute weight more evenly but i don't know! Had my Spliff's for a couple of years and can't quite get comfortable.
@TalonSei
@TalonSei 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a boot issue. Skiboards will definitely work your legs a bit more but not to the point that they hurt. I’d go to a good boot shop and get fitted for something new 👍🏻
