Skid Plate Install and First Impressions - Honda Talon X4

For anyone who rock crawls, spends time on rocky trails, or is concerned about the quality of the stock skid plate on their side by side, installing a quality aftermarket skid plate can be a great upgrade, if not a necessity. Good video Joe, the stock skid plates are crazy thin. I know they always leave room for improvement but you would think they would have something a little more substantial under the engine not just on the Honda but all the other machines as well. Seems like a good price too! - Joe

Joe, how do you like these after a few months? I didn't find a review, so please let me know if you have. Any issues with the open area on the rock slider portion between the two doors? I see they weigh 70#. But I' know UHMW is heavy, suspect the factory skid plate was around 10-12. Thank you for the information on your vids and honesty.

What’s up Joe? Great video as usual. A little off topic here but I’d enjoy a review of your tusk terrabites. Might be my next tires as I’m interested in the aramid carcass. I have a 2021 pro xp 4 ultimate. I keep getting weird punctures in my carnivores. They have great grip but they are just not a desert tire. I live in Tucson so I do all desert riding and some rock crawling trails. Do your terrabites wear good and do you feel they are a good tire for a turbo car in the desert. There aren’t really any good reviews on them like how you guys do reviews. I’m also waiting to see how you guys like those motivators that are on your pro xp. Let me know what your thoughts are. Hi Josh, I’ve been very happy with the terrabites. They’ve been a good all around tire and have worn well. You’re not the first person I’ve heard of having issues with carni’s. I do have a set of the new Tusk megabites showing up this week that I will putting to the test. As for the motivators, we didn’t put a ton of miles on them so can’t give you much of a review on them. We weren’t happy with the size or the round profile so we sold them and went with 35” sti chicanes. I do need to get down to Tucson. I’ll reach out if/when I do. -Joe

Joshua, i live in Tucson as well. I have had tusk terrabites on 2 machines. My last one they had 2400 miles on them. A lot of pavement as well and had 3/4 tread life left. Great tire were we live you will love them. My current machine is a proxp 4 i may put them on it as well.

Thank you for the replies Joe and odyssey offroad. That’s good news to hear. I’ll be interested to see how you like the megabites. I know they are a bit heavier but not by a lot so I think the extra protection will be worth it. I think the carni’s are decent tires for dirt and light mud but they just get shredded. I have just over 1,000 miles on mine and the fronts are about 1/2 worn and rear’s are 3/4. I swear after every ride I can see noticeable wear. In between the tread blocks there are these cracks that have started and they end up with a slow leak so I have to puncture them and plug them.

2400 miles and mines only got one weak spot now. Driven really hard in wood, rocks, creek crawling. I wouldnt mind an upgrade but ill take anyones stock one they dont want.

Hello, great video, I put the same skids on mine. Does your machine vibrate at 2k RPM ? My dealer told me it was a Hone thing…..

I haven’t noticed any abnormal vibrations nor have i heard of it happening to anyone else. -Joe
