My old fella was a bricky and would have chucked a half-bat at Roger. His name for blokes like him was Billy Bullsh-t, or Jack-of-all-trades but master of none! Sums him up brilliantly. Definitely would not have lasted half a day on a site and, luckily for him, new technology has saved his soul from being on the dole for years and years! Skill Builder, not on your life, but Roger talks the talk and has, obviously, made a good living for himself. Well done Steve and Alex you, like my old fella and his mates, make the job look easy. We, outside your trade, know it is hard and dirty work and takes years and years of very hard graft to accomplish your skill sets. Stick to plumbing Roger and yes, my dad couldn't even light a blow-torch never mind solder a joint!

Hatching & Grinning is something you should (not you) be aware of & as he said, when there's light on a wall it really shows up. There's a new estate that was completed about a year ago just around the corner from where I live, that would've been proper handy for me but I was tied into a "proper" job at the time..Anyway, the walls of the new builds are rife with hatching & grinning.. some of it so bad that you can clearly see it in just daylight.. it all got passed though but I don't know how, a big back hander I reckon

I was watching the video the same as yours the camera really really clear. I like some of the shots that they did of your brickwork et cetera. I noticed on his videos that he doesn’t block out any of your phone numbers or house et cetera pictures of all my jobs that I do and don’t bother whether you got phone numbers, any kind of numbers on cars et cetera? Is there a reason why you do this? I thought you would have liked to have had your phone number on all of you so that people can ring you. You never know one of the customers may be a big money owner always nice to see you in your, T-shirts with your name on I noticed that Alex changed his T-shirt a couple of times

Hi can anyone explain why a cut was made in a perfectly good wall by the wall starter ( student ) and does this have to be done everytime you attach a wall to existing building eg if thst porch was double storey extension ? Ant structural issues ? Thanks for any advice in advance

That is done so the insulation in the cavity of the new wall can be tucked in the existing wall and there will no gap there that allows cold to get in or heat to get out easily.

Structural all will be fine. Everything is supported so it will stay up. I don’t know building regs in the UK (or anywhere else, i’m not in construction) but insulating (and ventilation) and preventing gaps in that is a good thing to do.

There is no requirement any more to put in a vertical DPC in a porch or extension, none whatsoever

Maybe where you are but every area has different ways . I chose to put it in

@fruitgums It varies from Council to Council and region to region. If you happen to be in a part of the U.K with a known high driving rain index, it makes perfect sense to install a vertical D.P.C. N.H.B.C and the Insurance companies are reviewing their advice and guidance on this issue. Revised Building regulations have this matter under consideration for future use.

Was a good job I had the means to retire early as the Wife couldn't say no when I bought a 2005 Jaguar XJR (proper good condition, 43k miles) and last year they refused to renew my licence for medical reasons! I shall never use them in a work capacity - because I am retired. But we never stop learning anyway (or should not) and education is never wasted.
