Thank you so much, I've been wondering about this for so long and this was such a clear answer. (I'm gonna be fighting in Muay Thai once Covid restrictions lessen!)

I love you so much Kosta and Joseph. I am kickboxer from a third world country , and here kickboxing is SOO underrated. Our coaches do not talk about this type of stuff ,and you opened my eyes for these concepts.

For amateur. 4/5 day kickboxing 1 day S&C. The other guy talking way made me stronger and look better but slower and less sport specific power.

In my opinion the best thing to do is to lift after technical work you don’t have to train kickboxing hard every day you can get two days a week you start with light drilling followed by lifting hard

Everyone has their own preference, but in my opinion to develop good strength and power you need to be fresh. But closer to fight time I would definitely prioritize the technical work

If I do two days shoulder/back, two days chest, 4 Muay Thai sessions and a couple of runs, I'm doing alright yeah? Want to get back to jitz, but also want to learn spinny stuff/flexibility from a TKD champ/strength and conditioning coach I know here.

Respectfully disagree... I don't think Thai's emphasis on 18km runs 6 days a week as an optimum s&c workout but they spend a lot more than 50% of their time on skills as do the top MMA fighters. If two clones spent 10 years training like that with one doing a 90/10 skill to strength split, he'd obliterate his clone who did 50/50 skill to strength split, the skill gap would be monumental. The best fighters are physical specimens but it's always a skill gap that sets them apart. The one time Jon Jones went really hard on his strength training he looked awful against OSP. Still enjoyed the video and content, great channel Joe.

So Costa figures theres no value in circuit training to combine strength and conditioning eh? I'm not so sure, maybe for pro but for a working guy like me I dont have time to do cardio 3 times a week, do my fight training, and then also lift weights twice a week on top of that. Maybe I do get less of a strength training effect by doing my weights in circuits but it's just more efficient and I'm not trying to put crazy numbers up anyway

Can you talk about how to train for strenght without getting sore? For me its not the Training that kills me its the soreness after it.. i train MMA almost everyday so after doing squats i cant barely walk Brother
@MrSpicabooo
@MrSpicabooo 3 жыл бұрын
soreness only comes from the eccentrics of the lift tearing the muscle fibers. so if u do more explosive lifts like clean, jumps throwing med balls, sleds, youll get stenghth adaptation without the eccentrics and soreness, however u wont get any hypertrophy.

You're not lifting heavy enough and you're doing to much volume. Do 5x5 3 times a week and you'll be fine

@@hasanc1526thanks hasan.. just 1 question do you think doing 3 reps 5 sets is still good for strenght? i feel like if i do 5 reps in a set i still will get sore thanks
@hasanc1526
@hasanc1526 3 жыл бұрын
@@soyjusthyn7850 bro if you're doing 3 reps you need to adjust the weight and make them heavier. This will make recovery more difficult for you. 5x5 is the best way to not overtrain while making huge strength gains

So basically it depends. 😂 For everyone person who says do x there's another 100 who say it's wrong do y. Now circuit training is not good for conditioning? Geezus. Big hamstrings make you a better kicker? 😂
