A lot of people think this video is about me changing my opinion, and it isn't. It's actually just about providing a better, clearer argument, and a more balanced overview of the entire game. My first review didn't do that, which is why I wanted to try again. The original video is here, but like I said I will leave Unlisted so it won't surface through search engines: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paXCfHmBiaenkKs Apologies for dropping the ball with the first review. I'm not perfect but I'll always try to fix things when I make a mistake.

I dont agree that you dropped the ball on the first review. Sure, it could always be better (and it did not include any boat analogies) but that does not require you to do the review again... Thanks for taking the time anyway. Keep up the great work.

Skill Up dude no. You should stick to your guns. If you genuinely didn't like the game then everyone else needs to just suck it up and deal with it. Flip flopping like this is gonna make you lose a lot of credibility as a reviewer and I'm saying this cause you're one of the few reviewers I actually like. I'd expect IGN to cater to the few butthurt fanboys but not you man
@killcount6994

I prefer the original. You aren't IGN and we don't subscribe to you for bland, un-offensive, people pleasing reviews that pulls punches. Keep at it with the bold takes and honest reviews as someone who understands what a good ARPG is and don't let the hate get to you.

@XAndroid1 He gave a pretty comprehensive view of the game, and explains his subjective view of the game really well, which is everything a review of this length should do. If you expect him to go through every single negative comment talking about every point brought up, we'd be here all day.
@MilkySubstance
@MilkySubstance 4 жыл бұрын
@XAndroid1 Care to elaborate at all or do you expect people to take vague statements like that as a fact? Having played through the game myself I agree with SU on basically every point he makes. The game is shallow, unengaging, and underdesigned. Theres no real depth to the combat of the game, the loot is pretty boring for a game in a genre thats defined by its loot. The exploration is non-existent, and the difficulty scaling relies more on gimmicks that are a result of poor gameplay design (spamming ranged enemies) than actually increasing the challenge in any meaningful way. The thing I find the absolute worst about this game though is just how lacking in replayable content it is, and the fact that from the very first moment you boot up the game and visit the menus your confronted with multiple parts of the game that are greyed out and say they cannot be accessed until you purchase on of the DLCs. On day one. The fact they have clearly cut content from the game with the undoubtable intention to selling it back to players through microstansations masquerading as 'DLCs' is fucking sickening. ESPECIALLY given that the target market for this game is young children. It preys on lack of understanding of how predatory microtransactions are, and the greyed out menus that are thrown in these kids faces preys on the idea of kids demanding their parents continue to fork out more money for the game well after launch.

You expressed doubts on who would enjoy this game and I respect that. I know that I wouldn't, as I've been spoiled by Diablo and Path of Exile, and your review made that clear. However, on the other side of the equation is my 14 year old stepson. He is autistic and emotionally is more similar to an 8 or 9 year old. He loves Minecraft to a truly devoted level. He's watched myself and his mother play Diablo and PoE before, but we haven't allowed him to delve into those games due to their mature nature. However, he is absolutely loving Minecraft Dungeons and has been playing it nearly nonstop since launch. He finds repetition comforting and doesn't get bored going through the same areas over and over again. He doesn't like loud music in his games. He cares little for storylines or narratives. He doesn't get bothered by graphical glitches or imperfections. In all of the ways that this game is a "No" for me, my wife, and yourself, those same facets make it essentially perfect for his unique and admittedly limited use-case.

To parrot a lot of comments I'm seeing, you really didn't need to redo your whole review. It wasn't even a 1:1 like and dislike ratio. I feel as if anyone who had a problem with the review was ether looking for a reason to dislike it or was an minecraft apologetic. But damn if you're not committed to putting out the best content you can, I generally come to you first for a reason. You certainly did better job at explaining the issues with it, though I felt anything you didn't mention in the first vid felt easily implied. Keep up the fantastic work... and you're going to push yourself through a game, at least get to the mythical level of 69 before you stop!

Not a Minecraft defender or hater, but I've played the game and I had to disagree with the general suggestion or tone of his review. It didn't sell what it is. I watched his original review and it made the game look uninteresting so I didn't want to play it. My brother got it though and I've been playing with him and having a lot more fun with it than I thought I would. It's less serious and more of just a light hearted cheesy good time. Most of his points were right, he just turned off some people to the game who might be the target demographic.

Honestly SkillUp, I respect you and your review style, and you don’t need to apologise for giving a bad game a negative and honest review. It’s clear simply from what it is, that it’s a senseless cash grab based on a popular game with little to no connection to Minecraft. I’m actually surprised you reviewed this game, but it’s a testament to your commitment as a reviewer that you gave it at least some of your time. Keep making great reviews, you will always have my support.

I did, and I don’t think Minecraft Dungeons can be called a good game. If you don’t see it as a bad game, that’s your take, but from what I’ve seen and heard, it’s not my cup of tea and given that it’s showing you that DLC is on the way with the main game being short and unpolished at release, I’d say that’s enough of a reason to dismiss it.

It's not like that. If you play with a friend, the game becomes much easier. But it's actually much easier solo than every other ARPG I've played. The only real difficulty is the fight against the bosses. They can hit really hard and kill you if you don't dodge.

Bewildered Bodhisattva honestly, it’s much easier by myself because I can get all the arrows, I don’t have to worry about reviving them if they go down, and I won’t be rushed through the levels as quickly (meaning I can search everywhere better). Why do so many people think better articulating your opinions is somehow walking back on your opinions? Obviously there are going to be huge fans of a Minecraft game who want reviews of their favorite franchise to be fair and thorough, even if the reviews aren't overall positive and they don't agree with the opinions. This is how game reviewing is supposed to work. This is how professional game critics are supposed to operate. SU doesn't waste time rationalizing or making excuses for his earlier review. Or lashing out at fans. He doesn't call the fans "toxic" or "entitled". He respects their fandom and passion for their beloved franchise as legitimate and returns with a professional and thorough review. Much respect SU. You're one of the best reviewers in this business. Which could be faint praise considering how poor most game "journalism"/criticism actually is. But it's not faint. You're genuinely very good and offer up an excellent example of how a fair-minded pro goes about the business of passing judgement on other's creative work.

Well done for, as usual, taking the “high integrity” path and putting in extra work to make sure you did not miss something in your initial review, Some people here in the comments seem to be missing this point. It’s not about caving. Initially he did not play the game as thoroughly as he usually does because he was pretty sure it was not needed to review the game. Then a bunch of people said he was missing out on elements of the game that made it good. So to be sure, he went back and played it quite a bit more, at different difficulty levels. I do not get the reviewers here saying “you caved to the butthurt.” The second review is even more convincing of why the game is not a good buy because it provided even more examples of game’s design flaws.

I like that the game is very bare bones simple And I hope that if they ever make a sequel, they make a more compelling story line, diversified level designs, more challenging bosses, and maybe add the "mine" and "craft" aspects by maybe adding a base to the camp. Here you can upgrade the base by collecting materials throughout the levels ranging from common to ultra rare. Using the collected materials, maybe you can turn your simple wooden base to a more fortified stone base, add furniture, maybe even add traps to be used on a new mode where waves of mobs will attack your cam, giving meaning as to why you need to upgrade. Classes may also be a good thing to add so that it may encourage players to conquer dungeons with your friends where they use other classes. I don't know, I just hope that if a sequel or q free update ever comes out, it would acknowledge the problems the game currently has.

You covered mostly everything surprisingly, but I have a couple suggestions. 1. When dodge rolling with keyboard controls you should dash in the direction of your cursor: Not the direction of the player. 2. Also, you should be able to enchant your artifacts, because as of now most of them are bland with longer cool-downs on most. So having enchants will add a little bit more depth to what you should or shouldn't enchant. 3. You should be able to destroy tiles and or blocks. As this will create a better feel of impact during gameplay, and also make the player feel like they are actually playing a minecraft-based game. Not just some re-textured bare-boned Diablo game.

I don't agree with what you said, but the second word in my original comment was "personally", and you appeared to take offense to that. I'm not entirely sure why

Many KZbin reviewers were givens special treatment by the company, so they are not honest reviews. This negative, but understanding video shows more honestly than the sellouts.

The beauty of Minecraft is that it is so versatile, this and minecraft story mode would have been better as minecraft updates and not different games. Well, maybe not story mode ( because it is so linear), but minecraft with dungeons ( that have depth )would be neat.

@@shanegrayson7068Eh, not all of em. I like minecraft well enough and thought his original review did a great job tearing it to shreds and that he gave more than adequate reasons why he didn't think it was a good game. A bit ridiculous that some people wanted a redo of that. Personally I was hoping this game would be good from what I had seen in trailers so it's a bit disappointing that they don't understand how to make a game like this play well.

While I don't think it was necessary, I really appreciate that you took the time to do another review. Your thoughtful approach is exactly why this is my favorite review channel.

This was a way better review and what I've come to expect from this channel. Glad you had the clarity of mind to take a second look. Not many people would do that.

I'm a big fan of the channel and all I have to say is that I follow the channel not because of your views but because this is probably the most constructive gaming channel out there. There have been plenty of reviews where I have disagreed with your conclusions or interpretations but those videos were still valuable to me because of how you construct and present your views. Most of the negative comments (not all, but most) on the original MD review were asinine. They weren't defending Minecraft Dungeons because you got your facts wrong or because you actually missed something. These people are just too tribal to when it comes to things that they love/look forward to in order to have an objective opinion about the game. Another video isn't going to change that.
I can't believe it took me this long to play Resident Evil 7
