In the old PS1 Hot Wheels game they had a mechanic that circumvented the "fast cars = better" issue. The slower cars were considered part of the "4x4" category and there were short cuts in all of the tracks where only those big slow cars could get through. This made it so knowledge of the track was very important compared to just the speed stat of your car.

Just so people know, rather than add microtransactions (as of January 2nd) the devs made the shop have more cars in it, and update over twice as often. You can also sell cars for coins now, with the common rarity getting you 300 of your 500 coins back. The in game economy is much better now.

Yup. Not only that, it also looks disgustingly like lootbox-conditioning.

I was surprised with how good this game and the track builder is! I'm playing on the Series X and I haven't had any performance issues or crashes in about the 10 hours I've played so far :) Fantastic review!
@NYCJoeBlack3 жыл бұрын
It’s sad that you almost expected crashes or performance issues to happen, if you are playing on a home console. If you are playing on a PC, well, that would be kind of expected, since the variables for different PC’s and graphic chips are to varied to fully account for during Quality Assurance.

Some of my favorite games in recent years have been games that flew completely under my radar until I saw a Skill Up recommended on it. This might be another one to add to that distinguished list which includes gems like Remnant: From the Ashes, Hades, and most recently Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

The same for me with Hades. Helped convince me to get the game. Was so happy I ended up getting it

I still have my old hotwheel collection so this game was a no brainer for me. It flew under my radar til I saw a review on it and fell in love. I'm playing on PS5 and having a blast.

This game needs some Split Second style mayhem. Kinda like he said in the video. A kids baseball bat falling onto the track. A skateboard crashing through the side of the map. A parent opening the door and shifting the track because they bumped it.

Does anyone else just have a bunch of Hot wheels and snap-on tracks just in a box and just look at it and go *“Man those were the days”*

Something to note, the economy seems to be vastly improved since launch. All cars, save for the ones gifted to you on bootup, can sell for 300 gold. 500 gold if they're rare, and 1000 gold if they're legendary.

Thank you for reviewing this! It's a bit outside your typical genre so it's cool to see!

For the first half of this video I was thinking "Yeah that sounds fun" but as soon as you mentioned building your own tracks and the amount of customization it grabbed. This looks like the next TrackMania and I can't wait! Thanks Ralph!

I really hope they add the Ecto-1 in the future since they have the DeLorean in.

The Shop reminds me of that WWE Wrestling game that came with PS+ not too long ago. You also buy toy versions of Wrestlers, everyone with it's own real life intro tune but sooooo expensive.
@vgm_central3 жыл бұрын
i wished there would be more customization with the tracks itself. instead of having simple wide tracks we could have like some ramps and holes in them like just stuff we could fly trough or drive under more.

I remember playing a game just like this on the ps2. Funnest times I’ve ever had. Though something I remember that game had that I don’t think this one does is the world obstacles that fit the setting like a toy dinosaur blowing fire onto the track and having to dodge the fire, and “wrecking” other cars

As far as I know “modnation” on the ps3 had the best custom car setup… I loved that game for that.

I’ve been eyeing this up as a passive game to play. I’ve not long picked up a real nice headphone/amp set up and I wanted something to just play while I listened to stuff so I’m pleased to see this would fit the bill.

I’m so glad you decided to review this. Hot Wheels was one of the titles I saw earlier that I was hoping wouldn’t suck… and your opinion is about the only one I would trust when deciding whether or not to spring for this one. Thanks for spending the time to play it and provide such a thorough review.

This really throws me for a loop, because I look at this and my brain is immediately transported back to the 90s when my family had Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Driver on like... an old Windows 95 machine or something like that. Maybe the very early 2000s with a Windows XP computer instead, I honestly can't remember which.

I've been needlessly amped for this game since its announcement. Hot Wheels have always been a fixture in my life and I still buy some from time to time even now as the oldest of farts. It's good to see that they've made a competent game to go with the great designs they've been bombarding me with for basically my entire life.

The very first game I ever had on DC was a hot wheel game back in the mid 90s , I played the hell out of that game. And it did have a basement level where you were racing across the top of a pool table dodging balls lol

I have about 60+ games on my SSD, and around 100 in my library. With all of those choices, my Daily Rotation could be summed up as, Baldur's Gate 3, Doom (2016), Hot Wheels Unleashed, Cuphead- then Rinse and repeat.
