Warframe - The Plains of Eidolon arrived some weeks back, and I've spent dozens of hours playing through it. There's a lot in it and it sets a new bar for innovation and imagination. But beneath that, the experimental, rapid fire design philosophy of Digital Extremes has become unsustainable as the player base expands to twice its previous size, and more and more new players join every day. The update is groaning under the weight of the player base, and it's time for DE to evolve their experience, lest they lose these newly arrived players within the first few hours of their arrival.

To anyone watching it in 2022, the game still has all the same problems in this video give or take some small differences. Your first 50 hours will be a painful strain full of tons of research and frustration that simply isn't necessary. This game is weird for having a stunning central set of gameplay mechanics and polish with shells of rot and outdated design decisions that are no fun for new players and make them feel like they must work very hard. For what you ask? They have to do that very hard work just to know whats going on, or to get any of the real story, or to participate in anything meaningful. I have had games I loved that were done in less than 50 hours. Or where I enjoyed my 50 hours and felt like I paid my dues and learned and could enter the endgame. No other game this good is this frustrating or this unnecessarily harsh to new players. I'd even rate it as worse than Tarkov and other PvP games in that regard.

I would not say fair reviews are his creed. Its more that he can play a game, enjoy it, fan boy over it, but when it comes to actually reviewing, he can put that aside and think critically about his experiences with the game. Something most reviews seem unable to do.

Thank you so much for this review! As a new player whom hasn't completed 2nd Dream & War Within, you have reinforced what I was feeling during my 1st bounty & free roam in the Plains. It is too soon for new players to get sidetracked by PoE, when there's so much that needs to be unlocked and experienced beforehand. I truly hope DE watches your review and takes your advice. Thank you again, and keep at it Tenno.

Animelytical, It really is the Endgame experience. PoE is very consuming with its own economy, resource grind, factions to rank up, etc. If you haven't completed the solar system & all your codex quests yet, you need to do that... Then you'll truly be prepared for the Plains.

*Standing ovation* Once again Skillup you have hit the nail on the head. I started playing this game a little over a month and a half and I definitely was overwhelmed with the amount of content needed to be strong. Then the plains hit..which I did go to at first but then like you said nothing I did there would help me progress so I stopped going. I think the strongest point you made was to fine tune this games systems and progression. I think it would be wise for DE to take a step back and refine this wonderful game. Anyway, Thanks for another amazing review friend!

Yet another great review from Skill Up, i loved how you covered the issues and the things done right by DE as a whole, Plains of Eidolon is a big piece of content, overhyped by the community, and honestly as a long time players, having experienced lots of underwhilming expansions in other games, i kept my expectations down, and i'm glad i did, having my expectations lowered, i saw how DE handled their community and the issues at hand, totaling countless hotfixes and a giant amount of bug fixes, for such a small team, it is so incredible that they can achieve so much with just the power of your affection for the game, and even with the flaws and mishaps, Warframe should be crowned to set the example for future gaming, to see it as a passion and not like a way to milk money out of your playerbase. Cheers Skill Up, you make the Lotus proud, as all the Tenno.

Yaki Termocaos well said. It goes in the other direction of games with quality, care, paasion = eventually more money. If you care about the game you will spend money in it. Not the instant cash grab loot box filled games released now. Get your money up front then don't care if you ever play it again.

Indeed, DE keeping the community in focus, really brings together the game, making it stronger by every piece of content they introduce. I have to personally give props to them, and i'm quite sure Skill Up can agree, that the amount of toxicity in the game, being so low due to the low amount of competition, since PvP isn't the forte of the game, really makes the game enjoyable for any kind of player. Might be flawed in certain cases, but it just keeps getting better and the community is only helping making the game grow, in some way you could say that we're all pouring our heart and soul into Warframe, and it's such a beautiful sight that has never happened in gaming history. Never felt so honored to be a Tenno amongst my Tenno brother and sisters.

If you weren't before, you're definitely a vet now, skill up. You've hit on perhaps the biggest criticism long time players have with Warframe--an unmet want for more depth in the broad variety of features Warframe has. While many of us love the game and know it to be great, this game would be without peer if DE revisited even a few core features, archwing, operator/focus, damage, etc. Two things, though. I understand DE's need to keep rolling out features. It doesn't immediately pay as much to rework old features than roll out new ones. Arguably, however, expanding these core features could prompt players to stay longer, and with it, invest more financially in the game. It may even cause just as many players to return to the game as new features bring in. It's a leap of faith in a player base that not even DE has yet to make, but I would strongly encourage them to do so, especially now. Secondly, there are some that argue that not holding a new player's hand is what has contributed to such a vibrant community. Shared struggle is one of the most effective ways to form strong bonds and altruism in any group; if things were too easy, no one would have a reason to interact with strangers. While they can do more to at least tell players how to embark on one of the many pathways they can take to get to veteran status, I wouldn't mind the game retaining an element of ambiguity to it. In this, I think DE rightly holds faith in the strength of its player community to help one another out. Oops, didn't mean to post an essay. I loved the review, both in its thoughtfulness and it's humour, and I'm looking forward to more of your content, skillup! Wishing you the best.

Revisiting existing eatures doesn't bring as much revenue as pushing out new content does, at least in a FTP game. It's a known fact. And the major reason they've made and are making this game is for profit.

T3hIluvatar That’s the main reason any developer makes any game
@Shinom4ever
@Shinom4ever 6 жыл бұрын
T3hiluvatar One thing is the major reason and another thing is a basic need. They do this game because they wanted to make it, and that was always the major reason, but money is needed for everything. We live in a world where the money is the power that makes almost everything possible, and without it, no developer could survive. They need money, we need money, and if you work as a leader in any aspect of a company you will know that *if you wanna make more things, you will need more money* . But saying that DE does all this for profit... you didn't play the game or you don't know how things work. DE almost die making this game... is funny how people talk about greed with this company after that.

Top quality content as always mate. Fortunately a handful of the issues you mentioned have already been addressed. That's just the nature of well made YT content, is that there is a bit of a delay. Constant hot fixes (near-on daily) addressing bugs and econ have been great. The gara - kuva thing is sorted. Non plains mats have been added to bounty loot tables to help new players. etc... Thanks for getting my into this glorious game. 'The Review' is legit the reason I checked it out for the first time, and now im many many hundred of hours in.

Honestly with most of the warframe youtubers having been so biased towards DE in their videos, I'm so happy to see you point out actual cons along with the pros for once. I know you're fairly new to the game and the community but as someone who's been playing for almost four and a half years now, you've demonstrated a really good understanding of the game as a whole. Overall, great review, and equally great delivery as always.

I'd just like to say that this review encapsulates everything I feel Digital Extremes needs to hear now. As a player of Warframe that has stuck with this game since back in update 7 years ago. I feel that I can say that this game has evolved into something incredible. I feel you captured that here, helped along by your perspective of someone who found this game in its earliest days long before I did, you are able to provide a viewpoint necessary to the next step for the game as a whole. Warframe as a whole needs more people like you Skill Up, people who are able to see just how far this game has come and are able to understand in way many cannot what needs to be the next step. Warframe has reached a point where a certain level of polish needs to be made systems refined and just taking the game where it is now, and pushing it to a point that will truly let it come into its own as the amazing game that all Tenno see it as. So keep on being awesome and here is to many more years of great content from both Warframe and you Mr. Skill Up.

Fair and balanced review! The great thing about Warframe and DE is that they are *constantly* working on everything, so even while Skill Up was putting together this video, everything was changing. A week from now, several things will be changed even more. People who have been unwavering in their negativity are kind of hilarious, because they keep playing anyway.. I think that speaks for itself, very loudly. ;)

"What I'd like is for DE to put a freeze on all new systems and just improve on the ones they have" I literally had coffee shooting through my nose. We've been asking for that since 2013. It's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. This is why I get upset at these glowing reviews. But you're the first one I've seen to actually point some of this shit out. It really sucks when a game has so much potential, yet needs a handful of adderol just to be realized into the greatness it could be. But it's never going to happen. You want to enjoy the game? Play the updates, and ride the new car smell every couple of months. That's the best you'll ever get.

Thank you for this very balanced and well thought out review. I just started playing warframe, so i really appreciate the insights on all the things this game has to offer. And while I appreciate a game that doesn't spoon feed new players, there is a certain amount of explanation that would be helpful in easing in and retaining new players. I feel warframe really has a good balance of giving new players fun things to do and progress with, and giving us glimpses of all the end game content that we can build toward. Looking forward to spending lots of time playing this.

Skill Up I only know you from your recent Warframe videos. From the first one I saw, I simply liked the way you present your content, so, whenever a video of yours show up on my feed, I simply watch it. But this time! This time you hit it right in the spot! It was like you entered my brain and spoke out my impressions and thoughts with better presentation skills. From the very beginning, even before the PoE launch I was literally screaming to my clam mates, "why would I want to be a space teenager when I can be an awesome space ninja with amazing abilities?", "Why the hell would I want to fish and mine instead of shooting enemies and blowing things up?" and "Those weapons from the new crafting system look really ugly, I hope they allow me to use skins on them". Well you didn't mention the last one but it wasn't so important. That review was very well made and (I really can't stress how much) on point. Good job!

What I love most about DE is how vocal and connected they are with their community. Whether its the big devstreams they do every so often, or the smaller individual streams they do, they're completely open to player suggestions and criticism. During some of their smaller streams, they might even find things themselves that they think players wouldn't enjoy and immediately let the respective departments know to take a look at it. Not too long after the review, they changed bounty rewards so that you earn rewards for each individual stage. Little quality of life fixes and such like that go a long way in this game. It's the fact that they're constantly taking feedback and staying in touch with the community that makes them such a trustworthy team that is always looking to earn their audience's faith.

Every major warframe update starts out as a buggy, unbalanced mess. I ain't even mad (but that's probably because of my high tolerance due to playing MORE unbalanced messes known as Asian MMOs) I do agree that newbies have no business being in PoE. They would achieve much more progress just completing the rest of Warframe's content.

I agree. I was fishing yesterday and a relatively new player (MR4) came in, and apparently you have to do POE to unlock Eurasia according to that player. They should probably put a MR limit to it, or a quest requirement. So you have to complete the archwing, Second Stream, and War Within quests before you get access to Cetus and POE.

adolhein I started the game just a few days ago, and I can confirm this in all honesty. I saw that poe was recommended at lvls 5-10, so I figured I would do a bounty. I expected poe to be open world as an instance, rather than party instanced so I ended up exploring while my team was killing off everything for the bounty across the map. I like to go there now just to screw around and pass time if I'm not in a quest grinding mood, but they should definitely add more restrictions or advice. The lvl 5-10 recommendation is bad considering the mobs running around above lvl 20, and the eidolons being immensely strong (to a new player). Can't tell you how bad I felt for attacking a smaller eidolon and forcing my team to try to take care of it, and then having to run from it because we couldn't kill it (all low leveled players)

As someone returning to this after Warframes third open world release, i find it kind of saddening. Most "bug" and "tuning" issues are largely resolved at this point, but the problem of "islands of content" that have no influence on your progression throughout other parts of the game is larger than ever. I just hope that DE after three open worlds (one for each faction) decides that enough is enough and instead focuses on integrating these systems into the wider game. It isn't nearly as flashy and doesn't get the same press coverage, but it is sorely needed.

They've slowly but surely been working on this. The Corpus Ship tileset rework featuring Solaris prisoners and void runs that can grant Fortuna rep is a step in that direction, but I will agree that more should be done. The easiest thing would be to broaden the types of things we can buy with standing gained from any of the areas. If people could buy relic packs or kuva with Fortuna standing, for instance, they could get two things that either improve their rivens or their collection of gear or both just buy choosing one of the open worlds they like best.

Tyler, it most certainly can feel like that. Having to farm all those other fishes to farm a particular fish with some bait most certainly can bog down an experience, but this is where I managed to get my solution. It will require dual monitors for it to work unfortunately. Fish while watching something else (it's like watching videos / listening to radio while waiting for the fish to take the bait). Of course, the sound will need to adjusted to hear the fish spawning, but it does give me a relaxing feel. As much as warframe is fun with its power fantasy and running-and-gunning, having something to dial that back a bit while also giving that feeling of progress must say, is kind of nice. Also, When I go fishing, I go fishing, no bounties (I mostly get all my standings from lungfish anyway, like Skill up said, the bounties themselves just don't give enough when a single night relaxing lungfish-fishing can get you the entire daily standing cap).

I basically do that, last weekend I propped up my tablet next to my monitor and watched Stranger Things while I listened for fish for a few hours. Problem is, I wanted to play Warframe, not watch Stranger Things while fishing in the background. Again, I would be absolutely cool with blowing 20-30 minutes fishing if that's what it took to get what I needed. Spending hours to make bait for a certain fish just took too long and I cringe at the thought of having to do it again.

I finally finished The Second Dream, absolutely story spoiler free, and am so glad and surprised I did. The main reason I just stated that was because of you SkillUp. You have put a very good reason to place this spoiler warning in the video and so I skipped it for weeks as I grinded through the planets. But right before I played through The Second Dream I watched your 'Master Stroke' video and noticing your high praise for the quest (which was obviously not the full intent of the video as I had recognized), so I entered with high expectations, and was pleasantly indulged in the questline and how the new system was introduced which made me even more happy that you, and many others, had never spoiled any of the story in it. Once again, thank you for all the videos you create, they are all excelling in quality, and it has been a pleasure being a viewer of the talented creator you are.

I would like to tell you that you're wrong. To rage against the unfairness of any kind of criticism against Warframe. But, alas, I'm not a fanboy. I love Warframe, but I also understand its weaknesses and issues. I can put up a defence towards some things (i.e. the PoE update is meant to be taken in slowly anyway) but it's not enough. DE has several bugs and issues in game -Standing being the least of them. However one thing can be said; DE tends to listen to us. They increased the rate of Quill Standing we can get, how must Focus we can get in 1 day and added more ways to get Focus (Brilliant Eidolon Shards). Not everything is perfect, but we're getting there. Things are improving, every day. We have at least one hotfix (or even full patch) a day, sometimes 2 or 3. This means they KNOW what's wrong and they ARE working on it. The biggest complaint I have with the game howeverr, is much like yours; it's NOT newbie friendly. When I first entered Cetus, there was no guide to tell me what there was there, much less where or how. Finding the Quills was AGGRAVATING. Yeah, PoE needs polishing -we need more NPCs and guides and knowledge as to where happens what. I do really hope DE focuses on accessibility now. Warfame has LOADS to offer to people, DE just has to make people WANT to get involved now. It can be hard or it can be easy depending on how one sees it and how much they want to invest in it. On the bright side; they made the tech for PoE that can be applied to MORE than just PoE. So, next time they release an 'open field' area (say, for Corpus or Infested), it's going to be much smoother. Always the silver lining :P

First of: You've made quite a nice and detailed Review of the Plains, really appreciated watching it! Though I must say I'd have structured your footage a wee bit differently since on the one hand you tell people "beware of Spoilers for 2nd Dream" and on the other hand you have already showed some footage of you popping in and out of Operator mode ;) However, though I definitly DO agree that the guiding of the new players through the Warframe content NEEDS to be improved, I still think that introducing them early into the Plains and also the Gara-Quest was a smart thing to do, atleast in my opinion and here's why: - When you start visiting the Plains early in the game you can already get used to the new resources found in the plains: you aquire your first bait, hook and drill and start farming a small heap of resources for later use. That way you won't feel exhausted from having to farm 50 or more fish later, as we experienced players now have to when we want to rush through all the new goodies the patch has to offer, since you aquired them, one to five at a time, during your daylie 5-20 min visit to the plains during or after your first bounty. - You get your first "introduction" to a syndicate/ the syndicate System without the downside of making yourself an enemy faction, and eventhough you can't progress through the ranks very far (yet) you get to learn how to gain points, how much you can farm per day (Mastery Rank) and how to spend it. - When they start Spending their standing (since they don't have access to the higher rank tiers yet) on Zaw parts, though that system definitly needs a better introduction, especially that you need to gild in order to get MR exp, they can start experimenting with different weapon families and, as a byproduct, also gain some Masteryrank exp (up to 18k when they try all blades, which is huge for a youngling!) - While the Bounties themselves might be harder than other missions that are more suited for their current level, they won't get punished that much for failing a bounty/ incursion in the way that they are allowed to keep all the other standing/ exp/ loot they aquired until then (provided they make it to the exit, which should maybe be marked a bit more flashy on the map for them) where as in normal missions you loose everything if you fail the mission; - During the Gara Quest you get your first introduction to a few systems that will help you greatly later in the game: You get your first free Codex Scanners and get a short info on how to use them aswell as some (forced?) practice with them (this should greatly decrease the number of young tenno that get stuck on the node to Phobos with the Scan 3 cephalon fragments, provided they get what cephalon fragments are); You learn that a big bunch of Lore in Warframe is hidden behind scanable objects (Kuria, Cephalon Frags, enemies, thousand year fish,...) and to keep an eye out for secrets/ hidden stuff; When finished the quest you learn that you can aquire Warframes for free (without spending plat) by getting blueprints and building them, something many ppl still seem to not grasp at first; when you look for the Gara parts/ browse the bounty list you also discover that warframe parts/ special blueprints, mods and materials can be aquired though mission (/ in this case bounty rewards); furthermore they also get their first glance at a hub which might end up leading them towards grouping up with similar minded players, find/ join a clan or just make friendships, definitly more likely than with the drop-in-drop-out playstyle in normal missions.

I started playing Warframe just a few days ago, and I feel like this review was catered to my experience. I've never played Destiny, or really any game like Warframe. I felt like I was going in blind. The game does not hold my hand. Which is nice to a degree. It wasn't hard to figure out the missions as I went along and I wasn't too worried about mods until I actually read one and went, "Wow, this looks helpful." And then developed a hunger for modding. Can't say the same for blueprints. It's not that I don't want to grind away for new gear. Problem really is there wasn't any real way for me to tell what weapons are good and what are bad, and to be honest a quick google search didn't really help either. I am still using most of the basic gear. I think modding is nice and I love it, but I feel like how unintuitive weapons are needs to be fixed. On that note, the Plains of Eidolon didn't make any sense to me at all, and to be honest all I wanted to do was fish and mine materials for Gara but I kept dying and dying and dying and I had been doing quite a lot less dying before, so why was I dying so quickly and often now? The brief moments of peace really gave me a lot of joy. Eidolon is nice to look at, and nice to explore. But it was ridiculous how much I was clearly not prepared. Not only was the game play different to what I had experienced before in Warframe, it didn't feel intuitive. I am pretty sure I tried the first mission there several times because I couldn't actually figure out how to leave. I was so quick to rush out the door and not realise I should figure out where this damn door was on the map. I was use to a green thing telling me where to extract and that just wasn't there. Which now that I actually can look at the map and clearly point out where and how to leave, it's nice that it doesn't have that. But it wasn't before and I just felt confused. Also I accidentally stayed until night once and freaked the heck out of there. I was clearly not meant to be there but it was so available? I couldn't wrap my head around why only before I felt like a ninja war god I now felt completely out of my depth. I know that for a lot of people this would be huge turnoff. Thankfully I am more then willing to spend time to realise that I need to shoot that beeping moth thing out of the air before it sends out a flare if I want to have a better time. It does help that I've progressed more into the game since that horrific first mission though. Also smashed that subscribe button after watching this video. You had some genuine funny moments and jokes, and your content is mouthwateringly professional. I find it hard to be unbiased about the things I love, but you act like you are ready to knock down some beloved but ugly cheap vases if it means if it means the amazing table underneath gets to be seen.

Some of the things you said took words out of my mouth! This review is fantastic. I'm close to MR 20 now and i've only been to the plains once because I feel I have too much to do outside of them, and because I don't want to fish for hours on straight XD

Great video. I literally started playing a few days ago and I am more lost than a kid in a mall with an absent-minded mom. The game is tremendous amounts of fun but I'm literally surviving on the guides of content creators like yourself. This video helped contextualize why I'm confused by a lot of things as a new player (why do the plains of eidolon feel so disjointed from all the quests I'm doing in space? why are fans so happy about the lore of the game but I'm playing missions with no story? what the hell is an arcwing and why can't I play quests that need them?) It turns out that the game is literally building one unrelated layer of content on top of another without really guiding new players in what order we should experience them. That said, even if I had no idea what to do in the plains, just seeing it all for the first time was easily one of the best game experiences I've had all year.

I'm sorry Skill Up, but I have to disagree with you here about the operators. (SPOILERS AHEAD for those who haven't yet played The Second Dream) Ever since I've finished The War Within, I was waiting for the operators to become better, and now they have. Keep in mind - they're *literally* children, they're *not* supposed to be those overpowered beasts, that's exactly what the warframes are for. But I feel that they finally gave us a connection to someone we can relate to, a person behind that lifeless metal husk of a warframe. And even considering all this, even considering they're just children, they still kick some serious ass! Especially if you upgrade your amps - I'm leveling a bunch of random crap a lot (mastery grind), and more often than not, I find myself jumping out as the operator to save my warframe's ass, because I'm literally that much more powerful! That's of course is not the case when I'm geared up, but as I said - I gear up only for actually tough missions. And to top all of this off - even on these tough missions I jump out as the operator a lot, mostly to heal my warframe that otherwise has no healing abilities (long live Vazarin :D), you have no idea how many times I escaped death thanks to this. So TL;DR here is that our experiences may vary here. I am honestly having the time of my life with the new operator system, and I really hope they plan to expand on it even further!

I see the point here that the new additons to operators are great and they are better than before, but the amps are still grindy as fuck, and even sentients are strong against them, the one things we should be able to kill. And the grind for focus is still a plague on advancing the operators strength.
@Axeon
@Axeon 6 жыл бұрын
You do have a point, but I'm actually using the second amp that you're able to get - the long range / charge one. And reading descriptions for the rest - I'll probably stick to it in the long run as well. So, for me at least, the grind wasn't bad at all. As for the focus grind being nightmarishly long... yeah, I can't argue with that. The Focus 2.5 system did help significantly, and since I have no plans to expand to other focus schools yet - I can't really complain. But my god, I am so sorry for all those people who plan to max out every single focus school...

they reduced the focus requirement for grinding the skill trees and it actually gets much faster with Eidolon hunt. you can get 25k focus points by capturing just one Teralyst, and if you get a good team you can farm up to 5 or more Teralysts in one night. that is 125 focus points in one hour (I feel like they need to amp the focus farm outside of the plains to level with the Shards, Eidolon lens are grindy and not that good, but that is another story). and the tenno actually makes the sentients trivial, they are not only very weak to void damage, it actually has the power to reset their resistances, making them that much easier to kill. it actually was a little disappointing, since sentients was one of the few fights that I thought was very challenging without being "one-hit-kill" powerful.

As someone with over 2000 hours in the game, I think your piece of advice to DE is spot on. Veteran players rarely ask for any new systems; if you're past the 1k mark, you aren't playing for new stuff anymore. You're just playing because it's fun. Polishing the plethora of half finished systems and making the game less of a clusterfuck for noobs should absolutely be the priority for the next year. The people who are MR20+ who just enjoy dicking around will continue to do so.

Just as brilliant as it's flawed. As usual with Warframe, couple weeks after release update is already immensely better, and i'm feeling confident to say that in time it will be a lot more brilliant and much less flawed than it is now. That's the reason why i'm sticking with Warframe for years and not planning to go anywhere anytime soon - developers who genuinely care about their project. They're people, of course, they make mistakes, but at the end of the day they want to make Warframe the best game it can be, for us and for themselves. It's a fun ride that only gets more exciting with time, not something you get to experience often. All criticism is on point. Although i would argue regarding the Operator/Warframe combat - using Operator becomes much better and smoother as you get used to him, get a good Amp and Focus abilities, arcanes, although getting there is far from easy (mostly because of the unbelievable grind for Focus XP and botched economy of the Plains). Operator provided me a lot more usability in regular missions than i expected - whenever my warframe is in danger, like from shield bypassing procs, i can swap to my Operator and use Void Mode for total invincibility and move to the safe spot to recover. You can get ability to damage and CC enemies, recover your health and such, which is very useful when your warframe is not quite up to the task. As for the gathering, it's a largely matter of taste. It's probably the first time i enjoyed fishing in a game, and i actually hate it IRL. But you're correct in saying that it takes away from the core experience of Warframe, but to me as a veteran player it's a good thing, it's a change of pace i needed... problem is, new players have to go through it as well, and a lot of it.

I've played a lot of warframe, i really mean a lot, your experience as a newer returning player is so different from mine, as a veteran & founder who's played regularly since open beta (just recently passed 7,000 hrs in mission). we see things from vastly different perspectives, yet we still engage in the same great content. you tend to feel overwhelmed & perplexed, i tend to be excited by the introduction of new content/ systems/ mechanics/ lore/ economy/ environments, bugs & all. . . as we are at opposite ends of DE's player base spectrum of experience. i feel for newer players getting swamped, and as a clan co-warlord, experience daily, the trials and tribulations of the newest players, a recent recruit had just 18 hrs in game so far, and the best thing is that they are so full of enthusiasm, eager to discover, learn & develop their inner ninja! whereas some veterans can seem dulled & almost cynical, having lost the buzz that new players bring. that experience gap between noobs & vets is a vast chasm for DE to bridge, and although you make some great assessments of the game, history, developers direction etc, i can't really agree with all your summary & conclusions. i appreciate the time & effort you've put in to this & previous reviews, but feel your subjective preferences only reflect part of the story, i hope in time DE can bring greater simplicity to a complex experience, but the fact that each update brings a new and unexpected adventure in the games direction, means the game is never 'finished', which simply means the possibilities are endless, not that 'beta' is a tag to allow for complacency, buggy coding or poor support etc. thanks for the buzz you've created, the interest you've brought to our favourite game :) i look forward to hearing more reflections, reviews & fun vids/streams from you, skill-up! Like you said 'DE have a responsibility to do the best they can' i feel your sudden rise to prominence likewise has a significant weight of responsibility with it & i just ask you to reflect carefully on your perspective, each time, before committing your thoughts to video, yes be honest, but also as balanced as possible. vive le tenno ! - (jetpack_jack)

Biggest problem with Warframe is the devs having an attention span of a fruit fly on crack. "Dojos? Uhh... We're doing Archwing now!" "Arch...wing? No, no RELAYS!" "Relays..? Huh. Nah, Open world!" And soon enough: "Open world..? Yeah, we had something like that, but CLAN SHIP SPACE COMBAT!" They add, and add, and add, and add systems on top of eachother, never finishing them. They create husks, like Syndicates, Relays, Dojos, Trials, all that jazz, and never work on them again. Maybe they do a rework every couple of years, but they only make these systems less shit, not complete. There was that big plan of having every planet have a unique tileset, like Europa or Earth has. But recently they outright said "Nah, new tilesets aren't new content, they don't bring players in, so we scrapped this idea". That's their modus operandi: announce a BIGGEST UPDATE YET! every half a year or so, build up hype, drive people in, and then leave it be until next BIGGEST UPDATE YET! comes out. It's great for marketing and all, but not good for players, and not good for the game in the long run. Soon enough they'll add RTS game mode, and a card game you can play in relays. Probably with some accompanying weapons you can only get through playing cards. I highly doubt either DE or the players will remember that "yeah, open world, it was supposed to be expanded..." in a year, a year and a half tops. And then a BIGGEST UPDATE YET! will come out, adding one new open world location, and DE will go back to their usual "OOH NEW SHINY!" method of developing the game, for another half a year or so. It might sound harsh, but that's what I've noticed while playing on and off since 2013. DE always makes new things and never finishes them. They're like that new, fresh indie developer, who just downloaded Unity, started making some platformer, but then decided "nah, I'm gonna make a top-down shooter instead", only to eventually abandon that project and start working on an isometric RPG, leaving a pile of unfinished projects in his wake. DE is still a fresh indie studio at heart and in mind, but in reality they are no different than a AAA studio with a AAA game, and should start acting as such. Proper development chain, everything planned out, limited-size sprints, generally speaking all the tactics used in proper software development in professional companies.

The new shiny stuff is what brings in the Whales... I think people give Warframe too much credit. I mean it's a GREAT F2P game but it's exactly that: a free to play micro transaction filled game. No matter how good it is money is the end goal and that's how they make theirs.

It is funny how half of the things you said are true and half are false. Touching the movement wasn't add, touching the damage wasn't add, touching the focus wasn't add... They touched archwing, didn't work even with the new changes. They touched focus, wasn't really a thing. They said that reworking Earth wasn't a good investment because *no one* returned to Earth because is a grinding game. But hey! they added a new expansion, with a new tileset, that gives focus a purpose and a new way to play, made archwing something useful and interesting, but yeah... because is new and not what I wanted I will make like nothing of this were made. Relays destroyed the game economy and almost the company, but hey... if that doesn't hurt me I don't care I can go to another game and nothing bad will happen to me. How hypocrites are people when they ignore the harm of some exploits when is something that benefits them, moreover for a company that gives you a free service. Next, we will talk about morals and how much they don't care for us. Hypocrisy. There are new things for Dojos and clans will be expanded next year, but yeah... let's ignore that and the fact that *this isn't an AAA company neither an AAA game* and they don't have a team so big to make the changes so fast and neither the financial cushion to be able to mess it up with some changes that the users can make an exploit from it and kill the company or the plans that they have. We have been seeing them this 2 years revisiting a lot of things that you complain about, and more changes are ahead, so... What game are you talking about? I can understand that you are tired of them making mistakes with their choices, but saying a lie like they don't revisit things... is dishonest or simple ignorance.

"Maybe they do a rework every couple of years, but they don't make these systems complete, only less shit" Where exactly did I say they don't do reworks at all, pray tell? They do reworks. But they're largely unsatisfying, and in most cases just straight band-aids. Movement rework was good, but it's still not the best, and certainly not what was promised. Damage rework was good, stepping away from rainbow builds, but it still has the problem of Magnetic or Impact being largely useless. Earth rework was purely visual, did not change the gameplay a single bit. Archwing is still shit, even after countless reworks. The planned Damage 2.5? It shapes up to make Slash damage shittier, and keep Puncture and Impact in their shit state. Slash will still be a king, since it lets you kill things quicker. Nobody will use Impact weapons, since they'll throw enemies around, and who wants to chase the ragdolls. Nobody will use Puncture, because why lower enemy damage by X%, if you can kill them faster - with Slash procs for example - and reduce their damage by 100%. But, hey, we got private quarters and a quest preview filled with plot holes and inconsistencies, so development time well spent 👌

The game is very much triple-A, both in scope, graphical fidelity, and quality. And their studio isn't that small. Have you heard of Keystone? When it failed, all these people were redirected to work on Warframe. They are AAA, and they should act like it.

I feel like every time I come back and watch this, even MORE problems and aspects pointed out by this review have been addressed and tackled. The need to mine and fish...severely pared back compared to launch, with many recipes like for arcanes and fish bait ditched in favor of just purchasing them with Standing instead. And combat and exploration activities like hunting Thumpers, taking down the Exploiter Orb, Isolation Vaults, Requiem Obelisks and opening containers often grant those materials without hundreds of hours spent "gathering." Bounty Rewards...greatly increased, with each stage pulling from the tiered drop pool, and Standing usable to purchase relic packs from mining vendors. Effectiveness of Operators...vastly improved, with more schools being viable and effective as Operators generally have more utility, CC, health and damage potential, based on their identity. As well, crafted Amps now coming standard with their full damage output and gilding is merely for Mastery XP, and a base "111" Amp with the cheapest components is much easier to build, and is viable for most content. The Focus grind...cap significantly increased, and more ways to acquire it like Synthetic Eidolon Shards in Sanctuary Onslaught, base Eidolon Shards now convertible into Focus, Zariman bounties awarding free Greater lenses and Thrax/Angel enemies awarding Focus upon kill. Even Gara's blueprints...no longer require Kuva. 10 year old games will ALWAYS confuse people, and frankly, they should. If a 10 year old game isn't so full of content that it's overwhelming, the question should then be asked...what the hell were they doing all those years? There's no question more improvements and tweaks can and should be made. But the state the Plains are in now are far and away better than where they were here.
