Hey guys and welcome to todays video where we take a look at the recent testing on Skin Aqua sunscreens. In this video we focus on the SPF rating but this is only half the story and of course the PA or UVA rating is just as important and I will be covering this in another video... sending you lots of love xxxxx

The fact that there are two other tests showing that it's an SPF of around 44 then i could trust that this product can be trusted. Unless your doctor is telling you to wear SPF 50 then for most of us there isn't that much difference between 44 and 50 particularly if you reapply it regularly and use enough. It's not like they're advertising spf 50 and it really only has SPF 10.

There actually isn't much difference between SPF 30 and 50....SPF 30 blocks around 96% of sun's Ray's while SPF 50 blocks around 97%. Not much of a difference so yes, SPF 44 is not much different than SPF 50. But we need to do more than use sunscreen daily to protect ourselves from sun exposure like SPF clothing, wearing hats (baseball hats, sun hats, whatever suits you best), going in the shade whenever possible, etc.

Hi Rob there will always be a range of results depending on the shades of skin tested eg I'm super super pale (fitzpatrick one) and burn very easily. Most spf's tested on Asian skintones will not give me the advertised spf on the bottle, as I burn far easier than darker skin does. If I use an spf with a 30 or higher, plus seek shade and wear appropriate clothing etc then I'm doing the best I can on a daily basis. Until spf testing is standardised throughout the industry and they use a wide range of skintones to get an average spf rating, this will continue. If a person knows they're more sensitive to the sun then spf alone will never be enough to completely protect the skin. Even with a good base layer and reapplication, it's never going to be enough to completely protect us. Hats, seeking shade, UPF clothing, wrap around sunglasses etc etc are always going to be needed. For me some fading of freckles, no signs of any pinkness, no prickly heat (which I'm very prone to) are all indications my spf is working relatively well for me. I think we just have to modify some of the behaviour spf can encourage, as we often have a false sense of security when wearing it thinking it does more than it can. I'm currently using mineral spf's for reasons of sensitivity etc, but that doesn't mean I don't trust chemical filters. I used ultrasun for a long time until my rosacea made that impossible (the alcohol burns/stings) and always felt it gave good sun protection for me. I still use their lip spf balm and enjoy it. This ongoing spf debacle is a big issue, but wearing an spf is always better than not wearing it. However trusting it to protect us without the other measures is when i believe we get into trouble. An spf 44 - 48 is a decent spf and not the 12 to 28 some of the recent issues have highlighted for other brands. Best wishes.
@chandracox6814
@chandracox6814 3 жыл бұрын
This is the best comment and so true. SPF testing needs to be regulated and tested on various Fitzpatrick levels to ensure proper results. And yes I agree, people tend to think that just because they wear sunscreen daily that they're fine to be out in the sun all day and have this preconceived notion that it's enough for protection. I agree that we as a whole need to look at this and reevaluate sun exposure and better ways to protect ourselves other than using sunscreen every day. Thanks for this comment!!

It is illegal in Japan to slap random SPF and PA ratings on a sunscreen product. The ratings you see on Canmake sunscreens were determined following in vivo tests on human skin (the gold standard). Third-party, non-standardized spectrophotometry tests are not reliable. Just ignore!

With summer approaching and all the question marks around SPF accuracy, my current strategy is to apply a sunscreen, let it set, and reapply other brands from other continents on top of the original layer throughout the day. Due to sensitive eyes, I have to use mineral around my eyes and chemical for the rest of my face, so I’m used to mix-matching. I expect that at least one SPF will hold up. My current strategy is “more + more = more”. I will continue to explore European and Australian brands as well as retested Korean and Japanese sunscreens and add them to the mix.

All I can say is thank goodness I have this channel to keep me up on the latest sunscreen issues. One thing I remind myself is that dermatologists suggest an SPF of 30. The most important issue for me is am I reapplying my sunscreen often enough? (My sunscreen recommends to reapply every 80 minutes.) And when I am spending the day out in the sun, I always wear a large brimmed hat and sunglasses... which adds another layer of protection for my face. I'm a bit suspicious of "new" ways of testing. What kind of dermatologist do you go to??!! I’ve not had one say that 30 spf is good enough since the late 80’s! In the last 20 years my dermatologists have said: 50 is perfect as long as you wear 2 different brands and apply what each recommends, reapply, cover up. Generally they’re surprised but not surprised I’ve been doing that for 20+ years! Though I tend to use a first application of a 30 with extra skin stuff incl moisturizing ingredients, (::sob:: Purito green spf 30 was the best!). I just bought the Shiseido Annesa sun milk and the Cell Fusion C Laser 100 SPF 50 sunscreen to see how these are like, as they seem to be well reputed for good mineral protection. I've never tried skin aqua, but the current vagueness makes be relieved that I did not buy it

OMG!! Another scandal!!!.. this so hysterical!!!!.. a witch hunt!!!🤔... I am so surprised, AQUA SKiN has many experience as far as sunscreens is concerned!!! I guess an SPF of 44 is not so terrible.... living in the Netherlands Rob ,like you guys in the UK, we are just happy if we ever get to see them sun. Nevertheless, anothr disappointment in another brand... Thanks Rob...😬😬😬

Lol had a laugh with your comment! True I was relieved it was still above spf 44 (since there is not a big difference between 30-50 I don’t think it’s the biggest deal just hope as more spf tests cone about brands are honest and change their claims. Moving forward they shouldn’t sell this as an spf50 anymore

Ananya, I have a terrible time with sunscreens burning my eyes. AND, the skin around my eyes. If I go swimming, the sunscreen runs down my face and really burns my eyes. The only one I have found that works for my sensitive eyes is the Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Liquid sunscreen for the face, SPF 60. It does leave a slight white cast on my skin, and I am very fair. But it is worth it! I use the sunscreens that didn't work out on my body. Maybe Rob will do a video on sunscreens for sensitive eyes and skin!

While you guys root for these Japanese sunscreen and, even worse, brand companies from Korea that just slap their label on the packet. I'm out here actually protecting my skin, don't want to grow old only to know that the sunscreen I used for year had some dubious filters, faulty testing or shitty regulatory body. I have tired more than 30 sunscreen and have settled on LRP shaka fluid, these Asia brands are not worth the headache.
