The Biore Aqua Watery Essense is the one for me. The first time I tried it, I was taking my kids to float the river (2 and a half hours on reflective water). This is my FAVORITE sunscreen I have ever found. I’ve always had issues with American sunscreens. Mineral sunscreens leave such a strong white cast and American chemical sunscreens burn my eyes like crazy and stay super greasy on my skin. This one definitely has a strong scent, and I was apprehensive about the alcohol content at first, but honestly the scent fades fast and the alcohol makes the sunscreen less greasy. Truly the best sunscreen I have ever tried and I was able to get my husband to wear it every day too (crazy since he hated sunscreen before I found this one). First sunscreen I have found that doesn’t burn my eyes, doesn’t leave a white cast, doesn’t make me break out, and doesn’t leave me feeling slimy or sticky.

I hated putting on sunscreen my whole life (I am 31 now) because something in the US ones just make me feel like my skin is retaining the heat from the sun. Which leads to sleeked skin for me and just utter misery. I did a bit of research and found this Biore Aqua one. I have to say, it is the best sunscreen I’ve ever used. My skin is sensitive and prone to eczema flare ups. This does not irritate at all. I am also a runner, and this holds up in that it doesn’t get in my eyes or get sticky as I run. It really goes on like a water essence and disappears completely. I am a brown woman and this causes zero cast. In fact in pictures I appear dewy and glowy. I don’t wear makeup, but it gives it that nice glow regardless. I just wish I could buy a bigger tube so I can slather on all over my body and not just my face.

I appreciate Biore and Skin Aqua's micro-encapsulation technology that boosts UV protection without penetrating into the skin. Without the encapsulation, my eyes will not tolerate octinoxate. My favorite is the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk (blue bottle). Although it has no alcohol or fragrance, it has fewer filters.
@gtan3073 жыл бұрын
That one by Skin Aqua is my fave too because it doesn't sting the eyes. It has fewer filters, but it's dominant filter is zinc oxide which is a very stable UVA/UVB physical filter. It's a hybrid sunscreen but almost pure physical. The chemical filters are lower in the INCI list, that's why it doesn't sting the eyes.

I have been using Biore, other Japanese and Korean sunscreens for years especially those milky and runny texture ones. However when compared to European sunscreens, efficacy-wise, I think Asian ones couldn't stand extreme/outdoor direct sunlight for long time. I would recommend European sunscreens instead if you will go spend a long time outdoor exposing to direct and harsh sunlight. It will protect you more than those sunscreens from Asia.

100% agree with this review. This has been the only chemical sunscreen in my rotation for the past 10 years and I just finished my last bottle and will no longer suffer thru the alcohol smell (2nd ingredient). It never irritated my face like American chemical sunscreens do, and was always on the highest rated lists which is why I continued to repurchase it. Someone translated it and said the directions say to avoid the eyelid area... WTF? If you are avoiding your eyelids, you are doing sun protection wrong. Anyway, I totally understand your review and question why this has a cult fandom, even after the 2019 smell intensifying reformulation.

I'm in love with littllextra riceberry sunscreen right now and I'm a big fan. I can apply a generous coat without feeling uncomfortable. It do not sting the eyes or taste awful if sweat drips into my eyes or mouth. The price is also very reasonable compared to most facial sunscreens. For reference, I have mostly normal skin, slightly oily on my nose and chin, and somewhat prone to acne unless I'm rigorous with my skincare. I've been using it for a month and haven't had any breakouts or even an isolated large zit, so it's certainly not clogging my pores.

Absolutely LOVE this sunscreen. Tried it after watching skin care influencer James Welsh rave about it. It's the only sunblock I've tried that leaves no white cast and doesn't have that HORRIBLE sunscreen smell. Speaking of the smell, maybe the company corrected the overwhelmingly strong scent this video mentions, because I find it has a light scent that disappears in a few minutes. The alcohol content doesn't bother me at all, in fact, i think the product feels amazing. Cooling and soothing, leaving soft, dewy and glowy skin. I definitely cannot live without this stuff. I even find my skin looks better after consistent use, healthier, plumper, less noticeable fine lines and more even tone. Not to mention it works so well, my face looks much paler than the rest of my body. Lol

OG Japanese sunscreen. Used to buy that when there weren’t as many options. But now, I find there are better alternatives that wont potentially sting and cause irritation.

Another Japanese sunscreen I've been loving is the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel pump, it doesn't have fragrance but still contains alcohol. My skin has loved it but I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks Dr. Sugai :)

I like this sunblock. I use it daily and then apply Australian gold mixed with Frezyderm on top and don’t need any foundation in the spring/summer months. It ends up being matte and stays all day. But if I were to go for a full day at the beach I would load up with a thick one instead. I find it interesting that I have very sensitive skin and even though the alcohol content is high I don’t get irritated. Thanks for your review. Nice and honest. Just subscribed! 😊

Only sunscreen I'm able to wear over my eyes yes it's got scent but it fades after about an hour. Sinks in well. I've got oily skin but my skin is dried as I use retain A put a moisturizer on before the sunscreen no issues at all. I've tried zinc sunscreen and burns my eyes. Sticking with this.

Do you see an uptick of melanoma in the Seattle area? I am also from here and find that most people don't wear sunscreen, under the guise that it's "cloudy" here and UV "is low", which we know is false.

I noticed that Japanese skin care and makeup seems to be aimed at more oily skin (they're known for powders, blotting papers, alcohol in skin care etc), whereas Korean products are all about hydrating and moisturizing and glowing- so I assumed people in Japan have oily skin and Koreans dry 😅. I quite like this sunscreen but it pills quite badly when I put any liquid/cream cosmetics ovet it (primer, foundation etc). I had the same issue with Korean sunscreens. Idk what the ingredients are that don't want to play together, but I didn't have this with Bioderma, LRP or Eucerin spfs 🤷♀️😕

Great observation- I’ll pay attention to this when looking at Japanese and korean sunscreens or just skincare products in general! Thanks for sharing your thoughts too. 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍👍

I love, love, love it! It Does smell kinda chemically when just applied- but I’m weirdly into the smell 🫨🫢 But man. The lightweight feeling and easy application makes this a joy and addictive. You don’t get that in Danish skincare!! I used to hate wearing sunscreen 😮 I’m in Mallorca and ran out of the Biore and had to buy a big Nivea sun screen 🫠😵💫 I tell you, that one is thick as F*** and looks like scrambled egg in this heat.. Never again!

I've been using this Bioré Watery Essence sunscreen for years and prefer the older formulation because the new formula scent was just too much for me so unfortunately I had to switch to a no fragrance sunscreen. My favorite japanese sunscreens come from suncut amd skin aqua. They’re affordable and don’t have fragrance. I can’t take the smell in the biore. It made my eyes water and kind of stung if it got wet. I don’t know if they fixed this issue. I gave it away to a friend.

Hi, I'm a new Subscriber, love your channel! ❤ I agree with you on the fragrance. A good dupe for this sunscreen is the Isehan Kiss Me Sunkiller Water Essence SPF 50, another Japanese sunscreen. Its alcohol free, very lightweight and absorbs quickly. It does have a lemony scent, but the scent does dissipate after application.
