"Who needs silk pillow cases?" Me, black girl here. Satin and Silk pillow cases are a life saver for curly hair. I am also so glad you did not sell us a 15 step routine. I am almost positive too many steps are unecessary but it seems like everyone on youtube is on a 15 step routine. I have four steps and my skin is the clearest it has been ever. I am getting compliments from strangers and family (my family will roast you on everything, weight gain, pimples, etc). Routine: A very gentle barely foaming cleanser I bought from whole foods randomly (LOVE IT, but don't remember the brand), stridex pads, hydrating toner (a new thing to the routine, but helps my very very dry mouth area), clinique moisturizing lotion (I have strayed and regretted, a staple since my teenage years). I confess, sometimes I don't wash my face, but I tend to cook at home, drink way too much coffee and water. *Sips coffee at midnight*

Since you're dehydrated as well as dry, I think you would really benefit from a simple hyaluronic acid serum with vitamin B5, which then you can seal with your occlusive creams. You can find them at all price points: from The Ordinary and Hada Labo to Drunk Elephant and Skinceuticals. ;) I use and love the Toleriane Dermo-cleanser also from LRP. It's supergentle but effective, it can be used on the eyes, it doesn't have SLS or perfume, it only has 8 ingredients to minimise the risk of potential allergies or reactions and it also comes in a 400 ml pump ;) I've also heard really good things about the Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser from dermatologists like Sam Bunting and skin care experts like Gothamista, but I still haven't been able to try it for myself as it's not available where I live.

It's refreshing to see someone who is passionately about that skincare and truly knows what she needs and what she dont instead of using products because it's raved about. Thank you for introducing to us all these amazing products too :) it's also great that you love the product like an oil instead of the brand.

If you're waking up with tight skin, have you considered wearing a thin layer of vaseline to bed? Vaseline prevents some 98% of trans-epidermal water loss and works amazingly to penetrate into the skin (Yes! It does penetrate the top layer of skin!) to help heal and aid the skin in holding on to the moisture it has. It's my secret skincare weapon. Love your videos, Karima! Also THANK YOU for having good, solid skincare information in your video. So many people make skincare videos and just regurgitate skincare myths or flat out dangerous tips. So thank you, thank you, thank you, for being so educated on this topic.

I personally find Vaseline to be too drying on my face and lips, but it helps the rest of my skin not scar from scratches or insect bites! I'd recommend Aquaphor, which is basically a slimier and slightly thinner Vaseline.

I had this perfect, perfect skin all my life, right, and then suddenly those BUMPS you spoke about reared their hideous heads (figuratively of course, because in reality, they were so deep under my skin, I'd need a shovel to get them out). And I was so shocked because my skincare was so damn EXTRA and I was like, this can't happen to *me*. No way. Anyway, turns out I needed to exfoliate more and avoid heavy moisturisers. I'm one of those rare creatures who have the normal skin type and I had been over-moisturising and not exfoliating enough. It took 6 months but those suckers are finally gone and I can skip foundation again! Yay! Lovely video as always, Karima. And YES to a video on facial masks, please, those are the only things I haven't tried out yet and don't know where to start.

I whole heartedly agree with all of these tips. I suffer with all of these issues barre dryness, I'm combo. Eczema can be soul destroying. I tried all ointments, steroid injections, OTC treatments, elimination practices. My GP told me I would have to deal with it forever, and that these treatments were essentially like trying to put out a house fire with a garden hose....encouraging, right? 😑 I eliminated all grains, starch and sugar from my diet (keto) and within a week, all of my eczema completely cleared. I believe I had lived my whole life with food allergies I was unaware of. So worth having the prick test done!!! This will be the first summer in all my (cough) 38 years I won't be worried what others think of my exposed skin! Great video, Karima!

With your skin care philosophy of minimal and clean ingredients that focus on hydration instead of harsh actives, I find it so peculiar that you haven't mention Korean skincare, as everything you stand for is literally what Korean skincare is. I have the exact same skin type and taste as you and last year I discovered korean skincare. Switching from Western brands (really expensive ones at that) to Korean brands literally changed my life. Although I don't do the whole 10 steps thing, I do think their products and philosophy is years light ahead of Western ones. Check out brands like Dr. Jart, Klairs, Sulwhasoo, Missha or Neogen. I swear you won't regret it!!

thank you for mentioning that the simple routine is an age thing - it is - for my 20s, 30s and early 40s a routine like yours was perfect - cleanse, moisturise and sunscreen and my skin was good to go. I see young women in their 20s wanting to go in hard with the acids and i cringe, they're stripping away the top layers of their skin and exposing to sun damage - if a simple routine works - go for it - less damage to the skin that way. Yes, at different periods of our lives different routines work, but often - less is more.

Thank you, Karima, for this video. I have a lot of similar issues with my skin like very dry, sensitive, red skin, breaking out from all sorts of food and products.... but I seem to be headed in the right direction lately by many of the suggestions you included in this video too. Double cleanse beginning with the clinique take the balm off solid with a washcloth rubbed gently on the skin followed by a gentle cleanser has been key, as well as the Neutrogena water gel cream for extra dry skin have been game changers for me. Cleaning up my diet and taking out allergens helped a ton as well, changes happened in just 5 days! I have been enjoying some Pixi as they are gentle and more natural, their rose essence I like to use when I have a breakout starting and their glow tonic is a very gentle exfoliant I use about twice a week. I also dont react to their skintint which is great! I am currently looking for a daily face spf that doesnt give the white cast that doesnt break me out. Neutrogena baby sensitive skin sunscreen is one that works but is a physical block but white cast is terrible. I am trying some new ones like the cerave ultralight, and neutrogena hydroboost, and thinking about spending the dollars on la roche posay ones as I hear they are great for sensitive skin.

It is so wonderful to see someone with a more simple routine. My skin is super sensitive and can't handle actives. I started adding a rosewater mist to up the luxury feeling a little bit, and it's agreeing with me so far. So I cleanse, mist, moisturize, and put on lip balm. For sunscreen I actually really love the Kiss My Face Face Factor spf30. It's the only chemical sunscreen that doesn't irritate my skin, and it's very moisturizing. Bought it because of Kiki G 😀

I used to have terribly dry lips up until a few months ago. Turns out it was milk-protein allergy. 26 years of having the most chapped lips, my best advise is to only use a moisturizing lip product twice a day, morning and evening. Otherwise your lips can kind of get too "wet" which eventually gave me dermatitis around my mouth. So yeah, with persistent skin issues you could try to cut out different food groups for a week at a time to see if there is a difference.

-La Roche-Posay still has a product in their line called Lipikar Syndet AP+, which is targeted towards kids for reducing dryness and irritated skin, so maybe give that a try? -AESOP Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream is a fantastic night cream if you have dry skin. It takes a while to absorb, so you can't apply makeup right after it. You need to let it enter you skin. -Bioderma Photoderm Max Crème. Best sunscreen if you have dry skin. It is quite moisturizing and it gives you almost like a "glow" when you put it on - I wouldn't recommend it for oily skin types because you will look more oily.I've been using it for years. It sits very nicely under makeup. It's a true sunscreen though, so expect a true sunscreen smell. Do not try the tinted version though. Loved this video so much. Watching other people's skincare routines with 15 steps and 3 serums and 2 toners blah blah blah was making me anxious, like I wasn't taking enough care of my skin! And whenever I enter a department store now that I'm 25, someone is trying to sell me something anti-aging related like "oh, honey, you're approaching 30"...

I get tons of milia (superficial cysts) that sit under the skin & are hell to extract. Basically, I can’t remove them & their sack until they get inflamed. So, I also use Neosporin (the one w/lidocaine for pain relief) but I also add that 1% hydrocortisone you mentioned to the mix. My superficial version of a dermatologist steroid injection into the blemish. It’s a wonderful combo for my angry milia & inflamed hormonal cystic acne. I don’t have very product sensitive skin, so I also find that the No7 microdermabrasion cream is a godsend. I can use it 3xs a week despite having a genetic collagen deficiency disorder that leaves my skin easy to bruise, tear, etc; other’s might need to use it less. It’s been helpful for treating the milia, prevention of new congestion on my oily, mature, acne-prone skin type. It’s also helpful for getting rid of dead skin build up. The Clinique moisture surge is fantastic! I’m VERY oily due to my hormonal dysfunction & this soaks right in, doesn’t make me greasy. Neutrogena’s version is also a fave of mine. Cuz even w/super oily skin, I find that @ 43 yrs old, I do still need a good, non-greasy moisturizer post cleansing. Anyway, I think you’ve given us some sound advice, regardless of us all having different skincare needs. You & I are drastically different, yet we still have a few products & steps in common! Thanks for sharing this w/us. Wishing you a wonderful week darling!

Yes, cloths! Since I am using just warm water with a few drops of tea tree oil and a cloth to cleanse my skin, I don’t suffer from these massive lurking acne volcanoes anymore. It’s amazing how my skin transformed and I’m confident wearing no makeup or concealer. The simpler the better works here, too!

Karima the bite agave lip mask is basically pure lanolin (with fragrance and resveratrol added) and you can buy a big 40ml+ tube of lanolin for around 5 euros. It's sold and labeled as nipple balm for women who are breastfeeding and have dry chapped nipples (ouch!) but it's literally the same thing as the bite lip mask and it's actually better for you since it's fragrance free. Fragrance (synthetic and natural) is an irritant and using a lip balm with fragrance (and other substances like camphor, menthol, essential oils, etc.) will make your lips drier so then you feel the need to apply more lip balm but then they feel super dry again so you reapply and it becomes a vicious cycle where the lip balm is helping you temporarily but hurting you in the long run, this process is called grease addiction. Try using lanolin and unscented, non-irritating lip balms and you should feel a bit better. I'm just like you, dry as the Sahara desert since I was born and eczema prone too, discovering lanolin has been amazing for me. I like to apply a thin layer of something very moisturizing to my lips like a drop of my face moisturizer, jojoba oil or a thin lip balm and then slather a thick layer of the lanolin on top of it and it lasts me through the night. The lanolin traps the more moisturizing product on to my lips and it creates a barrier to prevent transepidermal water loss, plus it feels great. I absolutely love your channel by the way! It's nice to see another light olive girl out there who understands my struggle to find a foundation match. I used to be much darker and recently I was trying to figure out my undertone and just couldn't understand why I was so green looking and the traditional rules for warm and cold didn't make sense for me. Hearing you talk about light olive and "being green" was such a "Aa Haa" moment for me. Thanks and

My favorite sunscreen is Clinique City Block spf 40. It’s slightly tinted to cancel out white cast. It looks beautiful & smoothing worn on its own, makeup looks fab over it & bonus- if you reapply over makeup & press/pat in on, your makeup will still look great. This product is fragrance free. I have super sensitive skin & tons of allergies & I can use it without issue.

Oh my gosh, I have been waiting for this video, I feel like my entire life. You and I have the exact same skin type and nearly the exact same skin tone, and I LIVE by your recommendations. I sooooo needed this video in my life, it was extremely helpful!! I would love to see a mask/exfoliation video, that is also among my list of concerns for my own skin care routine. Thank you!!!

This might actually be my favourite video from you so far. Entertaining and informative. I loved the polished presentation combined with the honest humour (how do I pronounce this word, the rewind, shush phone, who needs silk pillow cases... hehe) - nice to see that side of you :) and especially thank you for keeping it real at the end (everyone has bad skin days, and also LOL for The Crown chat). Super big yes please to the mask/exfoliant video. Thank you! :)

I have the exact same skin type as you and I wish I could use the Dr Spiller Cream but it contains a preservative I‘m allergic to 😫 Love your skincare philosophy!! Recently I had some bad dermatitis around my mouth and it was horrible... and you’re right, the only thing that helped was to go cold turkey on the skincare, I only used pure Aloe Vera juice and it went away quite fast Also I think you would love Korean skincare products! Maybe give those a try sometime 😊 Lots of love 💕

I love and share your skincare philosophy, and we also have a very similar skin type. And oh my goodness, thank you so much, I completely agree with you about serums! I even reject the word itself. "Serum" is a marketing term to make a product sound like a really special, almost magical potion that you apply to your skin. They tend to be watery versions of thicker moisturizers, and contain a variety of ingredients. They're good if your skin needs and benefits from some type of layering of products/ingredients because it allows you to apply several layers to your face without it feeling heavy. But the efficacy of serums depends on the active ingredients, formulation, and if your skin even needs inprovement in a particular area. But at the end of the day, so many of them are a waste of money. For example, a cheap tretinoin cream in an ugly tube that you get from the dermatologist is going to be more effective than a fancy retinol serum that's sold in a pretty glass vile for hundreds of dollars. Please, folks, don't get caught up on the word "serum", or for that matter, "essence" or "ampoule", and feel the need to go through a seventeen step skincare routine. You'll drive yourself crazy, go broke, and probably harm your skin.

Girl, I feel you, I'm that careful with my skin, that's why I think It would be awesome if you could share with us, not only your face skincare routine, but your body skincare routine: what moisturizer you use on your body, how do you take care of your hands and cuticles, are you in shower oils, and what is your favourite body sunscreen, cause' I do get you when It comes to sun protection, face, neck, ears, hands arms, legs, even if my ankles are uncovered I will put some SPF on them fosho'. You are the best, thank you so much for always give as good quality content. Lots of love

Love this vid! So happy to see someone with a pared down but still thought-about routine (if that makes sense lol). I struggle with that dermatitis behind my eye too and also around my eyes which is always fun (plus i can't put advantan around my eyes uhh), plus some teenage PAINFUL acne so wearing makeup is always a challenge because you don't want it to flare but you never know what you might react to! Thanks xx

I suffer from atopic dermatitis too, in my face and my body, and it is caused by the ingest of artificial colors present in almost every processed food. I try not to eat it but sometimes you can’t help it. Glad to find some advices!! I use La Roche Posay products too, and currently the face sunscreen I am wearing is the ISDIN Fusion Water with SPF 50. It’s great I love it 👍🏼

Karima you are fabulous. I love your philosophy and the respect you have for the limits of your own knowledge...and for sharing with us anyway! One thing that I wanted to comment on is the allergy panel - it is not well-known that there is actually a 50% (!!) chance of a positive result for food allergens regardless of a true allergy or not. This means it is useful to have a negative IF you have never reacted, but using it to discover allergies to things that haven't previously caused a reaction is not scientifically backed. Many people in health and wellness (including some physicians) don't realize this. So I would encourage a bit more research around panel allergy testing. Most allergists/immunologists (those with a fellowship after medical school and residency) will only test for foods that have a history of a previous reaction rather than a 'panel'. If you find eliminating a food helps with your skin that's perfect. However in the absence of a reaction to consuming the product, a positive on the allergy panel may not be significant (obviously please discuss with your healthcare provider first before consuming). And this applies only to food allergies by the way, not environmental. Thank you so much for what you do! Hands down my favorite youtuber! :)

I'm so glad you made this video and listed your favorite products! Last year my skin changed (I turned 25), and I started experiencing really uncomfortable regular adult acne, often scarring and itchy. It totally changed my complexion- my foundations are for my pale skin, but with all of the redness I can't match anymore. My father has eczema and rosacea, so I know what I have is different, but I'm sure there's some connection. I finally saw a dermatologist last month, so right now my skincare routine is very light and focuses on that. I have the same skin concerns as you, though perhaps more sensitive (prone to rashes, exfoliation is very clogging and dehydrating, acids and alcohols are a toss-up, murad products destroy me). I have a morning cleanser, prescription. Clindamycine lotion/oil antibacterial. Over that I use a facial lotion from Cetaphil, which is the gentlest and most moisturizing moisturizer I've used, I keep coming back to it. Their body cream is also great for dry people. Maybe once a week I'll massage in a strong acidic cleanser (not salycylic- the other one), but then immediately rinse it off as instructed. For a primer I'll use the cetaphil, or First Aid Beauty primer for dry skin. At night I rub a layer of Albolene gel cream all over my skin, letting it soak up the makeup, then rinse my face and wash with regular dove soap. (Again, a gentle product that won't cause rashes.) Then I use my prescription retinoid cream, a small amount massaged all around the face. And, I spot treat emerging bumpy regions with the Dennis Gross Skincare Clarifying Colloidal Cream. I also primarily drink clear water and (should) change my pillowcases once a week, and seal several coats of my Cetaphil with an Aveeno hydration cream after showers. (I tried washing with cold water, but I just can't shower cold, not until July around here!) All that, plus keeping my nails really short and trying to not touch my face (using phone or even a spinner), has made improvement. People have commented about it! While I'm not at the beautiful skin of my early youth, I'm certainly healthier. Still looking for the perfect moisturizing cream I only need one coat of, though. :P I really appreciate you being so open and natural about skincare and skin conditions. It helps your viewers so, so much.

My mum always told me the lesser products you use on your face, the better it will be. I haven't had any breakouts in my 28 years of existence. As for cleansing, I prefer steaming my face on sundays and cleaning with rose water and that really does the trick for me.

Hafsa O. The only thing that saved me from comedons is a facial at dermatologist when she just physically extracted them. After first facial dear Lord my face became soooooo clean and no bumps at all!!! After 2 facials (second one was after 6 months) I don't really have them. I do this facial once a year and it's much cheaper than buying all the products that I used to buy to get rid of them. Where I live it's around 40-60$ U.S.

I have extremely reactive and sensitive skin, also oily and dehydrated and this works great for me. Re: SPF. I have gotten along fine with La Roche Posay Anthelios 45 and liked the Supergoop City Serum too, but I LOVE the Algenist Sublime Defense Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50. Bought it on a whim and completely thrilled with it. Doesn't bother my dry skin at all, sits beautifully under makeup, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I kinda love the texture. No noticeable white cast and no funky chalky sunscreen smell either.
